I guess the U.S equivalent of a DClinPsy would be a PsyD then. Thanks for sharing, ive been binging your videos now as I procrastinate working on my application essays haha but they're so entertaining and informative
@@sonamyangden955 I got in!!! I started my first class on the Monday that just passed :) deakin and Swinburne both offer this course in Melbourne australia
I love your videos! After exploring all of my options over the past few years, I have just signed my contract for a funded PhD in Psychology. Knowledge and information is definitely extremely helpful in making these decisions and in Psychology this information is definitely hard to access and wrap your head around so I’m sure that your videos are helping lots of people! Wishing you the best of luck in starting your DClinPsy :D
As an international student from the US, my main thing is cost and being able to live there on my own, so i’m assuming a PhD in psychology would be best for me because it seems they have better funding options for international students. Though you don’t make as much money during the PhD, I feel like i could have a job on the side and do the PhD part time in order to make enough money to live there. The amount of time it takes me to get my degree doesn’t bother me. I just want to be able to support myself in the UK. I was debating between going to be a Clinical Psychologist with the Dclinpsy and between getting a PhD in psychology to go into research. Now, i think i will have to go into research. I know i’m not asking a question but if anyone has any input on what my thought process is, please feel free to respond to my comment.
As a Psychology student I too felt personally a Ph.D would be a better choice than Clinical D Psy and again it depends on the individual choice otherwise both has its pros and cons for an international student. Because it's everyone's efforts to shine in whichever path they choose to go.
What if you apply initially for a Phd, get your experience in "academic psychology"; after graduating get a job in industry using your psychology Phd doing research for a company , humanitarian organisation etc; let some years pass until you naturalise yourself, finally as a brit citizen apply for the NHS funded DClinpsy. You'll have by then the academic/research experience and bring that to the NHS training program and you'll graduate better balanced than choosing just one side. You'll be a walking Yin and Yang ☯️
your home is gorgeous! I thought it was a zoom wallpaper or something... lol. Thanks for the video! made me feel more confident with my choice of doing a PhD. 😊
I got into my 2nd year today and I got a 3rd in my first year lol. But I know I’ll do better this year hopefully obtain a 2:1. Do unis care about your first year grades? I want to study DClinPsych
I am 39 years old and studied agriculture science in my back home long time ago I want to go back to school and study psychology, I am doing counselling and psychotherapy course now it’s just a few months long course my goal is to become neuropsychologist. How I get there? I appreciate all your advices .
hiii! loveeee your content could not come at a better time for me..I want to a DClinPsy and I have a question.. I have 3 years as an Optometrists who are health care professionals, does this count as the clinical experience needed before doing a DclinPsy? or does the clinical experience have to be In a psychological setting? kind regards xxxx
Hey Aika! Thank youuu for clearing this up and your vids on your journey so far, I’ve been binging them for the past few days! I just completed my BSc degree and have applied for Psychological theories MSc at QM and Mdx (mainly because the courses offer placement and I have limited exp. right now). I also want to pursue a career in IAPT services/PWP, hopefully leading to DClinPsych Doc as I love the person-to-person interaction instead of the research side of Psych. What (and where?) work experience/volunteering opportunities should I pursue that would best compliment my future career in these services? COVID has messed some of the chances of getting experience and I have resorted to doing some online courses to gain more knowledge. Soz for long message, keep up the vids! :)
Hey! Usually go for support work / healthcare assistant jobs. If not, volunteer in a mental health charity. Have a look at my 6 jobs I wish I knew video for more “non-conventional” options! Best of luck x
hey Usman, I am actually going through the exact same journey as you, applied for the same course at QM for MSc! and you are actually the first person I came across doing Psychological theories. good luck on the course!
How can working at a clinical facility be compulsory to do a DClinPSY, if it is not allowed to work as a psychologist without PHD or DClinPSY. I dont get this part
Like you said you’re not allowed to work as a clinical psychologist but there are various other jobs related to mental health which allow you to gain experience. The one most people try to go for before applying to a DClinPsy is “Assistant Psychologist”, however that’s an extremely competitive role🤷♀️.
Hello, do you go on interviews for the placements in the DClinPsych or are you just told where to go? Good luck in your DClinPsych journey x I am currently doing my MSc in Clinical Psychology and I am an AP and aspiring CP.
Not always. Most universities require you to do the degree then have atleast 1 years work in the field. So for clinical this could be an assistant psyc, wellbeing practioner, working in mental health ect ect. Only then can you apply for the dclinpsy and this is subjective to what you achieved. Most Dclin that I've seen want a 2.1 or 1st. OTHERWISE any lower requires the masters and ALSO the years experiance before being able to go for the doctorate. Hope this helps :)
Thanks so much for your information. They are very informative and helpful for me . I m from Asian and i am thinking of doing Psychology conversion Msc . After that to study Doctor of clinical psychology, how do I get employed by the NHS as Trainee Clinical Psychologists ? For international students only self-funding available?
hi I am Nimra I am from india firstly thank you for making this video I want to do dclinpsy but my under graduation degree is not bps accredited what should I do
Hey I have one question. I am from India and I really want to do this course. But will I get salary/Stipend while pursuing the course? If yes how much they pay you? My main concern is this only that I will be able to pay the cost of the course or not. If they will pay me while doing the course I will surely apply for it.
Your house is on another level of pretty:D

You have some say based on your training needs but it’s also largely based on what is available!
I have a question. Is DClinPsych still fully funded for International students?
Vance McCoy, Atlanta Auction Gallery
Is there overlap between Neuropsychology and Psychiatry?
I might have missed it in the video but do you have to do a MSc before applying for DClinPsy
