I highly recommend most people, if they can afford it, avoid PWP and go to an MSc if Counselling/being a therapist is your end goal. Otherwise you’re just adding lower paid years on to your career that aren’t potentially necessary. If you have no experience in helping people, or want to move into Clinical Psych for example, then this is maybe a good idea.
Thank you for this excellent video! I only recently found out about the Trainee PWP role and I have been applying for a few months ( 2 interviews so far, one of which is tomorrow!) This was a really helpful look at some aspects of the role I was unsure about, like the actual day of a Trainee PWP and what it might entail aswell as the academic focus and demands of the university portion of the course. The main thing that attracted me to the role is the paid training and the fact I can do something that makes a difference. Awesome work anyway, I have subbed and look forward to more insights from you!
Thank you for this video :) I came across PWP while looking how to get into CBT therapy. Currently a HCA was going to do associate nursing then qualify as a MH nurse but PWP seems such a better route in. Thanks for the insight!!
Oooh the day in the life of a trainee pwp part just made me realise how different services are! I just qualified. Towards the end of my training i was doing 6 assessments in a day and then typically 6 telephone treatment sessions with 6 online treatments the other days. Didn’t realise services and caseloads differed so much!
Sooo i was scouring YT for PWP interview questions cause i have one in a couple of weeks when i stumbled across your video! It's so great to see a friendly UCL face on here! #teamJeffrey Keep us posted Aika, your videos are so informative and calming ^_^ can't wait to hear more on your DClinPSy adventure
@@TheOxfordPsych yes, I'd love that!! DM me your deets if you haven't already (I know we've got chats going on a couple of platforms and haven't checked in a while haha#lazyalldayerrday :') )
This is very helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience. Congratulations on getting onto the clinical doctorate. I hope its going well.
Thanks for this video I have an interview next week and this was super helpful - congrats on getting into the DClinPsy! I have a question to piggyback off of this as one day my goal is to do the DClinPsy too (but also hoping to make a career out of PWP itself!) and given that you got the place during your training, did you ever have any awkward questions about the 'ethics' of doing the trainee PWP course but then going to do the doctorate? I've read some forums which question the ethics of that as usually you're 'expected' to work as a PWP for at least a year or two to get the 'money's worth' out of the course being funded by the NHS. Would be great to hear your experiences?
I understand that you said that you need a PG in low intensity CBT for the PWP role, is this prior to application ? or can you do that alongside the trainee role?
Hi there, thank you so much for doing what you're doing! I just wanted to ask, when applying to be a PWP, I am looking at accredited courses on the BPS website and some of the PWP courses have different names, not exactly the one you listed. Though I think the exact one you listed is listed by some of the universities. For example, Essex University has a course called "PWP Graduate Certificate Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner" and it doesn't specify "Low intensity Cognitive Behavioural etc.". Probably going to be a dumb question but would you recommend doing the one which specifies low intensity cognitive behavioural etc. Or does it not really matter. Just worried that doing the Essex one, may not allow one to work in the same scope as the one with low intensity CBT one. Also I found one called: "Graduate Certificate in Evidence Based Low Intensity CBT (IAPT PWP)" would you suggest this is the best PWP course to go for. Sorry I know it's a very specific question and completely understand if you don't know. Should I just contact the BPS and ask this?
Thank you for this video! I've been offered a trainee place but also a new job so stuck on what to do. Please can you do a video on the assignments itsself, how hard it is to pass them, or any tips on surviving them? thank you!
This is really helpful, thank you! You mentioned that after being a PWP for 2 years you will then be able to apply to become a cognitive behavioral therapist, do you mean to study/to do a master's or you can apply for a job/role as a CBT?
I really appreciate this video, however the background noise is very distracting. I appreciate it is difficult to find a quiet space during the pandemic x
When u applied for the PWP training did u apply for a “trainee pwp” post or just a pwp post?. I can’t seem to see any trainee posts in the UK currently and I seen one post that wasn’t stated trainee but said they would accept trainees
This is really useful thank you for the video! I'm starting my trainee PWP role in October and I am wondering if you've got any tips on prep/reading i can do prior to get a little bit of a head start? I know it will be a challenging role so would love to get ahead and go into it well prepared x
Hi just wondering if you know if this role and the training courses are available in Scotland or if they go by a different name? I've been trying to research it but everything so far seems to be based in the rest of the UK.
Such an informative video and explained so well! I have subscribed and look forward to more videos x I have a MA in Psychology and am interested in pursuing a career as a PWP.. what sort of practical experience is required for the initial PG Cert in Low Intensity Therapy? Or what was your background before the course? (Apologies if this has already been answered)
This is really informative, thank you! I am starting a role as a Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner and wanted to find out if the type of work/usual day is similar?
Thank you for the helpful information. Please can you advise whether you'd recommend a Trainee PWP role to others? I have been offered a position and I am trying to weigh up the pros & cons and understand whether people who have experienced the role, would recommend it.
@@noneofyourbusiness6044 no please I learnt an international student can not enroll on this program unless u have a residency permit that allows you to work so technically a home student
Is there any way I could send you my personal statement. I have had one interview but that was not successful even though I have applied for a high volume of positions around the UK. I know this is a long shot but I could do with some help, Thanks!
This was really helpful thank you! It was good to see the day in the life :) How would you recommend getting experience in CBT prior to this role other than through an AP post?
AP roles are probably the best place to get practical CBT experience, but not necessary for PWP! As long as you are familiar with the model either via any lectures/self-study :)
I have been accepted to do the Trainee PWP course. Do you have to know a lot about the work before you start the training? I am worried I don’t know enough!!
TheOxfordPsych thanks. I have read that and it is very good. I have a text book but it is 3 inches thick, I can only get so far with it....I have to remind myself it is a training course and I will learn as I go.
What qualifications did you have before becoming a trainee pwp? I have just graduated with a degree in psychology and I’m currently doing some works experience. Would this be enough, or do I need lots of experience? :)
I have a undergraduate and a masters in Psychology. I've about 4/5 years experience working within care/support within various settings. I'm now 3 months into PWP training :)
Hey, this is very helpful and very clearly. Can you tell me more about doing a PWP trainee role in the environment 4 days and 1 day in uni. How would that benefit you in your learning, how using those learning benefit in your studies during your PWP training, and how would your learning in uni benefit your patients and staff at you PWP trainee workforce (placement)? Hope this makes sense. Just wanting to know more about the course and work experience before I make a decision on going for a PWP trainee role in 2021.
There is something I don't understand. Why do you study to become Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWP) whereas you are already studying in the doctoral programme at Oxford (in which I am sure you have clinical interneships) to become a Clinical Psychologist?!
Hi, I can't find out information about how to apply for funded training :/ can anyone help? I have checked NHS Jobs and its all vacancies for qualified PWPs.... thanks!
If you apply for the PWP course with UCL, they are funded by the Anna Freud national centre for children and families. So you wouldn’t have to pay for anything :) hope this helps x
