The effect of "black water" ("brown water") was achieved by adding rooibos tea. Like other herbal teas, rooibos tea contains tannins, which can help mimic natural water conditions. Rooibos tea helps boost the immune system of fish as it contains strong antioxidants, it also helps against microbes and fungus.
Thats a great tip . i also started to use Rooibos tea to great affect , I learnt that from a Great you tuber called Rachel O Leary who has a great wealth of Knowledge on Nano fish keeping .
Just what I needed, a simple blackwater setup! I was already overthinking a setup for my UNS 60U, but I am going to turn it into my first ever blackwater tank. Thanks for the inspiration this, and previous blackwater tanks have provided! 👍
Will do. 👍 I already was gathering some supplies (soil, mesh nets for filtermedia) but held off from buying wood and rocks because I was unsure about what I was going to build. Good thing too. 😅
I had the same "problem" with an aquarium that I was building this week (will be published in June). I basically changed my mind one day before doing the aquascape.
Watching again, because why not. It's great. Went out today with a better idea of what to put in the 60U. Came home with something entirely different, for both the 60U and the Dennerle 30cm Cube. Both are going to be blackwater, but I am going to make the 60U dark-start-ready before moving on to the Cube. I will add botanicals once the plants are in.
Is it possible to turn an already established planted tank into a blackwater tank by adding botanicals (or rooibos tea hehe)? Love the video, youre my aquascaping goat.
The 🐐 replying; yes it is possible. I would advise removing hardscape and plants (if you want) and leaving only the soil. After you can add botanicals and new plants (if you want new plants). Filter and soil are already cycled so you can add the fish day 1.
@@acesgamer49 I just pour it haha, maybe 0.1-0.2L per 40L. Just add it in slow increments because you won't notice the effect right away, it takes a couple of minutes for the tea to spread evenly.

I’ve read that also using just organic black tea can work for black water, what do you think?

@@ricardosalinas4973 I guess it could. All that matters is that the tea has tannins and as far as I know black tea has tannins.
@@rolandtraynor I used to watch her videos while she was still making them. Her nano fish species profiles are very good.
