I agree with all of these wonderful tips. Sometimes Admin is supportive and many times they are not. I experienced both in my years as a middle school guidance counselor. ASCA can be very supportive as well.

I think there’s a lot of confusion/misconceptions about our role. Data and numbers help clear up everything 😊

It is very hard to say NO to your admin. When you sign the contract for your district at the bottom is very small letters is "anything else that is asked about you". I have seen many counselors doing a lot of things outside their role. I enjoyed the tips in this video.

I definitely agree. Using data helps counselors share best practices for what’s best for everyone. It’s all about sharing data and open lines of communication. It should always be about compromise AND meeting needs

I am not sure how to make goals when I am in a kindergarten school. There is no past data, and it is hard to get data within the beginning of the year.

You can get data from everything. Measure the increase/decrease of their behaviors after interventions 😊

Should counselors be in charge of sending out and administrating 504 accommodations? I believe this should be the SPED role and counselors should only participate in the meetings, not run them.

It varies on every campus district. I’ve been a 504 coordinator as a counselor. But 504 is not a part of SPED. They’re two completely separate things.
