I just stumbled on your YT channel and agree with your rating! I was not prepared for the voodoo spirituality part, and since my culture doesn't believe in that I found it a little hard to understand or empathize with. I wouldn't mind reading about the magic/voodoo stuff if it could help me understand the cultural aspect better but I felt like it fell a little bit short. I also found the daughter's relationship with her own black identity fell a little bit short. I would have liked to see it more, but it almost felt like a light switch moment where she suddenly accepted her blackness. Perhaps that was her experience and other people may relate, but as a WOC growing up in a diverse community, that was not my experience. I found the racial themes, the death/loss, and the rebuilding of the world after the event was a very interesting and captivating idea! I loved the beginning of the book up to around the same place where it became eh for you!
@@theangelawong OMG thank you!! I 100% agree with some of the parts falling short! Like some of those issues were pretty big and they switched so easily I was like ????? But yeah, I liked some aspects like you mentioned but it def wasn’t a 4 or 5 star read for me!
What did you think of Sky Full of Elephants?!
