Retiring in Mérida is a great option for those looking to retire in a city that is affordable, safe and historic. Mérida has a population of approximately 1,181,000 as of 2021 and a rich Mayan and colonial heritage.

@@GoingThroughTheMotions87 I live here too. And I am leaving. The housing is affordable and nice. Yet, there are lots of things that people do not say in the videos. Be aware, that centro and most of the city DOES NOT have reliable electricity. It goes out when it rains heavy (which is 3 days per a week) all year around. Where he is lives is brand new (l live extremely close to where he is) but there is nothing going on. It is almost out of city entirely. All they have is malls. Zero walk ability. Also, Mexico does not ambulance services. If something happens to you you have to get there on your own. Be aware of lockdown (no cars or people allowed outside after 11:30). So you either buy a car or get a friend that has one just in case you need medical help at night (there are ZERO ubers, taxis at night literally). If you want that kind of service you have to call the hospital of your choice and pay a fee in advance so you can get one in the future (and make sure that you are getting a service that has medical equipment inside cause some of them don't. The one ones that have US standard emt stuff is more expensive). Housing does not come with smoke/carbon monoxide alarms there is no regulation for that. You can buy them and up them in but do not think that your neighbors will. And remember no matter what anyone says YOU NEED A CAR HERE! This is just like living in Kansas City. Yes, some stuff will be close but you WILL wait 20 min for an uber. SO if you have a few stops to make during the day waiting for a car can take up 2 hours of your time in the heat..
