Now I'm both inspired and convinced to start my "Artist's Way " weeks. Thank you for your very well composed thoughts ❤

Thank you for spending your time with me! I really was so hesitant to go for it, and I’m honestly so glad I did! I’d love to hear about your experiences when you begin!

@AlexisViele I do plan on doing a video about it on a weekly basis. I have had the book for ages and only now felt inspired to start going through the exercises, but I was concerned with the time investment of it all. I think your video was the most conclusive of all the videos that I started to watch... also the only one I finished watching.

WOW! Super inspiring thoughts. I saw your expression in the thumbnail and didn't watch and then saw that you were doing weekly videos. After watching just a bit of week 6 I came back and I am so happy that I did. I have watched only 1 other TAW video and it was a "wrap" impressions ... very good and it inspired me to buy "It's Never Too Late to Begin Again: Discovering Creativity and Meaning at Midlife....".
I am a month away from 69. I have been self-employed for 38.5 years: software development a little photography and recently videography. I completed my last software development contract in Jan 2024 but will keep going with photography/videography and also ... 6 months ago started watercolor/ink and wash/sketching. I was teased as a child about my art abilities and chose to believe that I had no artistic/creative "talent". While I mostly believe different now, those voices from the past sometimes surface.
SO... here we are and although I have a resistance to what I perceive to be "self-help" books, I have been drawn to "The Artist's Way". But I think the "It's Never Too Late..." is for me and it encompasses a lot of the task and practice of "The Artist's Way" as far as I can tell with a bent toward what a "senior" experiences. I have read Week 1 and tomorrow/Monday 7/14 will begin.
I will also be following your journey and I anticipate that it will enrich my own. FWIW, in addition to being at least a generation older, I live (by choice) in Northwest Montana in a 1 bedroom/1 bath cabin/ranch house on 8 acres of wooded property with another 40 acres of state land adjoining ... I walk in the woods :). I grew up in small town Ohio, spent young adult years in Los Angeles area, moved to Montana in early 1994 and to my current home in 2006. So drastically different lifestyle but some commonality in that I will do morning pages after coffee and my time of play outside with my dog and cat, but as you said, before starting my creative day. I feel able to read and take in Julia's reasons but then decide best for my household how to proceed. I walk daily with my dog and will not do walks without my dog or my cell phone for safety as well as I do know that I solve so much on those outings but also desire the canine companionship and ability to call for help if needed. Bottomline, I will do a certain amount of adjusting while also considering Julia's perspective.
Cheers and best best wishes on your journey!

I'm so glad you enjoyed this video! Thumbnails... they are Tricky. lol
Thank you for sharing your journey with me. I truly appreciate it and find a great deal of inspiration in it.
Montana sounds like a dream. I hope to get out that way someday. I love the city, but I miss big spaces and nature- a lot. Walks through city streets are a bit different, aren't they?
I'll definitely check out, "It's Never Too Late..." that sounds like an excellent resource! Thank you for mentioning it. And, keep me posted on your TAW journey!
Cheers to doing all the things no matter the age!

I love all that you shared from your experience!! I found the common issues she talked about off putting but realized for me that it was part of the work of taking the message and leaving the fluff/distractions. I've been working on building trust within myself & being honest about what resonates with me and doesn't.
I just completed Week 1, after having the workbook per some old notes I found in it, since 2009. I started the Morning Pages a few weeks before just to work through resistance and ensure I was building up a routine and love for it as to not abandon it again as I took my time reading the intro of the book, setting proper boundaries in my life & writing out the contract in my journal and signing it with excitement.
Thank you for sharing the vulnerability of your journey. Looking forward to checking out your next video as I begin Week 2.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! I truly appreciate hearing about your experience. And, I think you are absolutely onto something. Not *everything* is for *everyone* but! that doesn't mean there isn't still a whole lot of good.
It's absolutely about being open to the revelations *and* knowing what might not be for you. I am so glad I pushed myself to finally do it. There really is a lot of good in this practice, and I would have missed out on it.
I'd love to hear what you think about week 2!
Cheers building trust within yourself and in that a deeper knowing!

Ooft yeah i struggled with the queerphobic/AIDS stuff too.. but.. the book is ancient... still, a book that successful should age better, nothing stopping her dipping back in and updating the language.. it was definitely off putting... i struggled with the god stuff too.. i don't have any religious beliefs.. so it was hard for me to find an alternative word i was comfortable with. I've found it pretty ableist in some areas too.. brisk 20 minute walks... and extravagant/physical artist date suggestions are out of reach for many of us. But.. i think it's a guide.. and we're all creative enough to make adaptations, but.. in 2024...we (should) all know how much representation matters.

@@beccamusso3787 Yes! It was really disappointing and truly kept me from getting into it for a long time. I 100% think an update/rewrite would be a wonderful thing. I’m working through week 11 now and the ableism is Screaming in that chapter. Definitely a part of my reflection on the way. I’m truly so glad that we’ve come as far as we have that reading outdated/harmful language is reason for pause.

Yes I agree about structuring my day with my morning coffee ☕️ after I’ve seen my husband off to work . Today is my first day of morning pages 📑 . I was able to purge a lot of crap that’s been festering . And I’ve name my inner artist as my lil muse & god as Goddess which made me fell better

Your video inspired me to take another look at affirmations that she listed in the book during week 1. I read through them briefly and picked only one that resonated. Now I want to see what I'm saying against each of them, what's hiding under the fact that I didn't resonate with them.

    • @AlexisViele
      @AlexisViele  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I love this. They may not all resonate, but I do think there’s something to sitting with them to see if and where resistance exists. Good luck! I’m excited for you to do this!

Me either but I think it’s worth mentioning that this book was written over 30 years ago and Julia Cameron’s prime as an artist and a coach was probably even earlier.
