But now in The Simpsons Movie, Homer and Bart are trying not going down the cliffs for the third time, before Bart used his slingshot to rescue Homer and pull them back up. 3:06

For some reason I get goosebumps when Ned says Homer wants to spend his last minute with his son. That's got to be the purest demonstration of love in the world: having your entire existence down to a final moment, and choosing your child to spend it on. He could have spent it losing his mind, trying to get rid of the bomb, hugging his wife, cursing his poor fortune, or even getting drunk, but he chose to give it to his son. I definitely get Bart's point about consistency, but such a caring and moving choice absolutely buys some points back, by at least proving Homer's regret in his need that his las act on Earth be to patch things up with Bart.
