Though he just adapted a game port controller to the joy port and never implemented the up and down directions as extra buttons. That was super cool to see a proof.

I don't think aloof describes David at all. I think "blunt", "unfiltered" perhaps even "nerdy" might be more accurate. He wouldn't argue with any of these sentiments. He probably wouldn't argue aloof either, but again I don't think that's accurate based on my personal experiences. I've been to his home more than once, met up at various meets, met his wonderful wife and awesome daughter. I can tell you they are extremely gracious, engaging and welcoming. He also takes criticism very well and shows interests in a very large range of topics.

    • @domramsey

@@domramseyI don't want to get deep here, but 8-bit guy is not liberal-hating. I don't think this is private, but he voted for Joe Biden. I might say that the most non-liberal thing about David might be that he's a firm believer of the 2nd Amendment. Why would that bother you? It is a constitutional right after all. Moral of this story? Don't assume you know someone based on what you "think" you see or "think" you know. I'll bow out of this now.

Yesterday I go to pick up my prescription sunglasses, and when I go outside while wearing them, the world looks all surreal and funky. Went back to the store to discover that the lenses were oriented incorrectly when they cut them out, so they weren't both polarized in the same direction. Oh man Ballblazer was so well done.. and rescue on fractals (behind jaggie lines). when I was a kid i remember i took a vacuum cleaner motor and put a counterweight on the shaft and mounted it to my chair so my chair would vibrate when i played Rescue on fractals 🤣... i've read everything i could find about lucasfilm games... Loren Carpenter did the fractal work on fractals he also did the fractal seen star trek wrath of khan movie.

Ah yes, the paperclip situation. That was the day I decided 8 bit guy was to be considered harmful to retro hardware.

It really shows where the Atari ST heritage came from.

If you see it that way, the design came from the ST, but the 800 hardware was continued in the amiga.

When Ben talked about his cavities it was making me think of Red Foreman "I went to the dentist and that sadistic son of a bitch found two cavities"

I used an XEGS as a donor for a dual POKEY mod on my 130XE. It was an odd machine; a friend of mine had one, and I think it came with Missile Command built in and subLOGIC Flight Simulator 2 as a pack-in cartridge, both of which felt like weird choices; MC is terrible without a trackball, and FS2 was... let's be charitable, and just say it was not a particularly well optimised port. I don't recall ever playing a game that used the gun, but interestingly it did work like a light pen - LPENH and LPENV (memory locations 565 and 565) contain the coordinates.

Oh nice! I almost bought one of these a few days ago, but I don't really have a nostalgic connection to Atari stuff, so I made the right choice and skipped it. But! Now I can watch this video instead! 👌🏻😁
