Hi John. I’m strongly considering a mid rise lift and ‘strongman’ looks like a great choice. I’m restoring a car and laying/getting up off the concrete floor is becoming a chore. Thank you for a great few videos.
I just bought mine but it seems like the platforms don't go down or up 100% evenly. most noticable when the lift is unloaded and you let platforms go to the floor. Then one of both touches ground about a second later than the other one. according to the seller its normal..?

Just on another subject, at around 02:52 and a bit after into the video, I noticed nine gas bottles along the back wall of your house. Nine.!! I've been to the UK several times but can't recall ever seeing that many gas bottles at a house.

Im guessing your TH-cam Monika is a clue to your interest. a) our village is not on the gas supply grid b) we have a 4 bottle changeover on the house c) we have a couple of spares d) We have a static caravan in the Garden that we let out to our friends (we live near the beach) so we have a couple of spares for that too.
@@ToTheGarage That explains it, similar here if off the grid. We generally have two 45kg bottles which are either swapped out or topped up by a gas truck. My TH-cam monika is actually just a nickname some friends gave me decades ago when we used to go 4X4 bush camping when all our kids were little. I always had a 4kg gas bottle and cooker handy in case it rained and lighting a fire for cooking was a problem. Love your scissor lift, the ones available here in Ozz don't look as sturdy as yours. Some are Chinese.

Hi Michael. Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for your subscription a) Yes. It needs a 16 amp supply which should not be an issue for most send domestic arrangements. I had to have electrical work done because after my garage the supply then goes on to a large Static caravan in my garden that is used when family visit. (even then I could have gotten away with it if I wanted)
b) I have drilled two holes in the floor and have literally just dropped two bolts through the base plate into them. They are not in any way attached. The only reason for this is that my garage floor is smooth and shiny and the underside of the lift is powder coated steel and when I drove onto the ramp it would move back about an inch every time. (I could have achieved the same with a couple of thin rubber mats
c) My concrete is only about 4 inches Thick. I would have no worries at all about moving the lift out onto my driveway which is essentially crazy paving, and using it out there. One of the beauties of the Platform scissor lift is it spreads its load well and does not need to bee bolted down as its portable and comes with wheels. Obviously it does need to nee on hard level ground though.

They appear to have a new version with just one join at one side (thicker) between the ramps.. Instead of 1 at each end. Makes access for a wheeled chair or gearbox jack easer it seems.. Can I ask what your ceiling height is?
John, I have just been looking at the website for Strongman following seeing your excellent videos and unless I am mistaken the 'Clifton 3 tonne' MkII now comes with a big fat web on one end of the scissor bars. Negating the ability to move right through or to put a crawl board over the torsion bars? When dd you purchase yours? I think that one is out of production perhaps?
4 to 6 inches. One of the reasons for going for this style (platform scissor lift with big base plates) is it just needs to sit on a flat floor. Indeed mine is not even bolted down as it is a mobile lift. two post lifts, in particular, need a very good and thick concrete base.
Hi John Just revisited the Strongarm web site and noticed that they have superseded our lifts ! They seem to have altered it to facilitate carriage, not too impressive in my opinion, looks a little amateur with the sliding nylon block ? You ?
Hi Neil. I must admit to being quite surprised. That large plate synchronising the two platforms negates some of the lifts most desirable features in that you have unhindered access to the full length of the cars underside. Admittedly you do have the two bars on the floor in the original but thats the lesser of two evils. I can see the benefits in transport though. Im guessing the two platforms can be stacked.
Hi John,a very informative video thanks,I was so impressed I went down and bought one,last Friday good fun getting it off trailer! I did quite a lot of research on scissor lifts before taking the plunge,and I didn't realise Strongman used the nylon blocks as lower sliders,what is your opinion on these as opposed to the ones that run on steel rollers? I have read some negative comments on this type of slider,saying you cannot get replacements and they are impossible to replace.would value your thoughts on this,apart from that is seems great,thanks Steve.
Hi Steve. Congratulations on your new acquisition👍. Im sure like for me, it will transform your 'Garage play time' I genuinely have no issues with the nylon slider. The consequence of this system is that you need to keep the bed on which the slider slides, free of debris to give it a long life, But the up side is its contact area is massive compared with a roller bearing which would start to make a groove in the steel bed plate from moment 1. In terms of replacement it might not be available off the shelf but its literally just a block of stock Nylon that has a semi circular pocket cut into it. In the Very unlikely event that ever wear it out, I shall ask a local machine shop to knock me up a pair. I did end up adjusting the Down speed on my ramp, via the Allen key valve on the pump. It was way too fast for my liking. Other than that and re sealing the drain plug on the Hydraulic reservoir. mine has been faultless. Please continue to share your experiences with the rest of us John👍👍

That’s great, I’m looking into get a similar lift. My garage’s internal area is 5.8m x 5.8m so I should have plenty room. Any drawbacks about this particular lift?
@@matthewreynolds6562 Hi. Yes ive just taken a look and they no longer show the prices? mine cost about £2000 delivered, so considerably cheaper than the Busch. Mine is the Clifton. It does not need compressed air. The safety devices are electrically operated. And it does not need bolting down. It is also mobile, and although heavy, it can be moved around on a smooth surface by one person using the optional mobility kit.
@@ToTheGarage ahh ok I thought yours was a "holt" model but that is a full rise scissor lift. The twin busch is a full lift also which is why I think it costs more. Thanks for all your help and info. I'll be looking into one soon
Hi Ian. Good ey. The blocks are about 5cm tall but it also came with some 15mm thick pads as well You can always put an inch thick plank in front and behind the ramp so that effectively you lower the entire thing bu an inch👍

Yes I have not had a moments trouble from my lift,and I am still happy that i made the right choice for my circumstances.

Hi does anyone know the total clearance to drove over. I know you mentioned 10cm but how think is the rubber looks around 4cm.
