Hearing Mike got out of Derry is such a beautiful touch. He was the one who stayed and carried all of those memories. Now he gets to travel, see the world, and make his own memories not burdened with the pain of the past.
It's good to hear from you again, Mr. Hatfield. I'll be honest, I've been getting worried. What with some of the close calls and strange doings you've related to us. Particularly in your current location. Derry has a bit of reputation. But it's not the only town in the area that does. There's a spot called Haven nearby, if I recall correctly . . .
I'd love to hear about Mr. Hatfeld exploring what I believe to be a grocery store that was said to help keep some people safe during a mysterious mist that supposedly had indescribable monsters hiding within it. Or visiting the road next to a cemetery where a driver called George Staub gave a ride to a hitcher before suddenly vanishing. Or perhaps checking out a Romani Fair to see if he could gather any information about a so-called curse that killed a lawyer and his family after he refused to take responsibility for a hit and run. As the stories go anyway.
Strange Resort is the best part of this channel. I'm looking forward to more about Derry...Maybe on to Castle Rock eventually. Also, have you heard of the Dolphin hotel? Just don't go into what ever is left of room 1408.

Nice nod to the 1985 flood after Pennywise was defeated once and for all. This town sounds interesting to a blind Tennessee-born man with a deep interest in history.

@@stephenkingbookclub1054 That’s terrific to hear. All the interludes in IT are such richly told stories-I’ve always thought it would be a perfect anthology TV series like Nightmares & Dreamscapes.
Thats so weird! My husband and i stayed in 217 at the Stanley in June, and i had a scary incident in the bathroom! It was a weird feeling and a strange shadow that wasnt mine.
Looking forward to more of these. Every time there's a new upload here I am very happy. On a side note, the "new" version in the recent movies was too cowardly & lame to properly explain the history behind 'The Tragedy at Black Spot' . (I think on another episode you guys did mention it here) And it's a pretty important part of the story, along with all the traumatizing things Mikey went through with the Bowers' Gang and *IT* 's torment. Mike was my favorite character out of the bunch, because of his past and how strong he had to grow up to be. Yes, some parts of real history were most unpleasant. And I think Stephen did a great job of conveying that as part of the story. But trying to bury the past or just never mention or show it (the way the films and tv series did) never works either. Just an idea. I appreciate all the work your team has done here, and the artwork, narration, and old photos are great. These episodes on this channel are far better & more enjoyable than the attempts made at adapting the books to movies or television shows. Thank you.
Agreed. As a non-American, the ugly parts of American history that Mike's story, the history of The Black Spot, the struggles of his family and of the black citizens of Derry made that ugly side of American history far more real to me when I read it in my early teens. Removing it from more recent adaptations feels like denying history, like a production of Cabaret with no reference to the political situation in Germany in the 1930's. It takes away a lot of the grace and strength of Mike's character, and the reason for his devotion to history in the first place. Because you know what they say about those who forget history...
I enjoyed the video! Today I started reading The Drawing of the Three! I'm a big fan of the Vampire Hunter D series and upon learning of the Dark Tower books and reading The Gunslinger, I found they're quite similar in their Weird West/Science Fantasy aesthetic. I'm probably oversimplifing the lore but, the bottom line is the Dark Tower scratches an itch for a fantasy Western epic that VHD did and it's got me hooked 😁👍
Truly an excellent and inspired series, well done. Derry has such an awful history, Hatfield is going to be at it for a while. Hopefully Mike is staying in some tropical paradise, the man earned his retirement and then some.
Using the rhyme from Bill's speech therapy as a swingin' 1920s song was a brilliant touch. I was recently looking up where that came from. I don't know if it came from "Donovan's Brain" by Curt Siodmak, but that's where King learned it. Another great episode!
I think King based this around a real shootout with a gangster and his gang in a town in Maine. I forget the finer details but it was described in an episode of Haunted History when it presented the Ghosts of Maine, and King was referenced a lot in that episode. Apparently the shootout has a number of hauntings associated with it. Whether or not there's a certain clown named Pennywise associated with them is another matter.

I would love a copy of the song singing "he thrusts his hands against the post and still insists he sees the ghosts." Is that a full song? Can it be purchased?
Is Helen related to the Deepneaus from the Tet Corporation out of New York? It would make sense that the Derry library feels different, more "alive" than the "husk" of Derry town proper, as Mr. Hatfield put it, being that a touch of the White resides, stands true if it do ya, right in that little library surrounded by all of that dark dark Dischordia...

Thanks for your question! We don't have what wed would call "Machine Gun Bullets" today, but back a hundred years ago, "Machine Gun Bullets" was a casual way of describing 45-calibre ammunition. The magazine was either a circular drum that held 50 or 100 rounds or a box that held 20 or 30 rounds. Back in the 1920s and 30s, the box would actually say "Rustless Riot Cartridges" -- and that phrase "machine gun bullets" (and he rest of the ammunition" is part of Stephen King's actual text from IT
