  • We began by building a stand to keep the sawmill level,off the ground, and in a place where we can easily get logs on. Then we finished by assembling the sawmill and making out first cuts!

    Why did you build your stand so high off the ground. If your tractor quits on you, how are you going to get the logs on the mill. Just curious.

      Back pain relief from working while bent over. Once the gravel pad is spread out it will be about the same height as a trailer-mounted mill. If the skid steer breaks down it will be a priority to repair it before milling. Check out the full video with details on our channel 🙂

      Ahh 👍 I thought maybe you only found the short video version. I have an old back injury from around 10 years ago that I try not to agitate. I Always wear a back support belt for heavy lifting now. But try to use machinery whenever possible. It's great to hear you like the videos!

    Glöm inte bort att göra tak över sågverket . Det blir roligare i vinter med tak

    so are there like blue prints and plans, or are you just going based off a brain image?

      Woodland mills have dimensions of the sawmill on their website, we were able to use those measurements to calculate how to build the stand 🙂

    dang, how high did you mount the rail at? do you like it? how tall are you?

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I am 6'1 the mill is roughly waist height. Check out the full video if you have time, it will show a lot more details. It will be about the same height as a trailer-mounted mill once we can spread a stone pad around it in the spring. This works nicely if you have a machine to lift logs onto the table and you don't want to work while bent over. The only issue I have is the lube tank is hard to fill at this height, otherwise, I feel it is great. The tank probably could be relocated to make it easier.

    Hi guys, if you get the time, check out a fellow Alaskan couple Eric & Arielle Illa @Simple Living Alaska now in the TOK area for a cover over the sawmill that they use to house their off-grid electricity panels. Only bcos right now my stupid old memory won't let me remember the proper name of the panels the sun shines on to make electricity !!!!!! Duuuuhhhh !!! getting old and losing short term memory is so frustrating. I can see the panels in my mind but the NAME for them won't come. Ggggrrrrr

      Yes! We plan to build a cover over the mill at some point. Unfortunately, we just ran out of time before winter last year and this year is cruch time for the cabin 😁

      @@northtoalaska2022 If you check out Eric and Arielle in TOK ALASKA, you will have an easy plan to guide you into establishing the sawmill cover and solar panel array. Will cut down hours of research and planning is my helpful thoughts for you. 👍👌✌️👏

    never never put concrete direct to wood, it will surely rot

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is ground contact-rated treated timber. Good for 20 to 30 years in the soil or concrete. This is an acceptable, affordable practice for fence posts and other outdoor structures. Not recommended for permanent home foundations.

  • @dmg4415
    @dmg4415 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Aren't concrete directly in contact with wood harmful to the wood, or was the wood treated?

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The beams are treated, and ground contact rated.

    In the end they will wish they got a Woodmizer .

      I can't argue that a woodmizer is not a better saw. But for the cost of a similar-sized woodmizer, we could buy this woodland mills saw three times. Since we only have it for hobby sawmill work and not to cut lumber to generate income, this one is saving us $7000 USD over a woodmizer. Do you have videos of your woodmizer saw I can check out?
