    I think your metaphor was great! After all, the pit is Bottomless, so you will never stop falling, never run out of things to grab. It is, in essence, a limitless potentiality to fall into art.

    @westminsterabbey.6916 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I really like your metaphor. It makes perfect sense as it is, and it describes the process perfectly. But if you want an alternate version without the side effect of the negative connotations of the bottomless pit you could say it’s like walking down an endless hallway running your hands along the walls. You’re still feeling around searching for things to hold on to, you’re still travelling into the unknown with endless possibility ahead of you, but you’re making the decision to take yourself forwards. The momentum is ultimately down to you.
    It’s important to remember to keep walking down that hallway, otherwise how will you ever find those notches in the walls?

      @@longjohn7992 For me, it's true power is the attention to 2D elements like curves being used to create solid geometry, then using that to add and subtract to build complex structures. It would let you import a 2D file as a basis for extruding 3D shapes - but for me I would always work from scratch in Rhino. If you're comfortable with 2D splines then Rhino is a really fast and efficient workflow IMO. I'd say Rhino is the best modelling tool for engineers.

    @BRUXXUS 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow, I'd heard about Rhino, but never looked into it too much. The tools look really intuitive for precision modeling.
    Most the 3D modeling I do now is for 3D printed parts, so I use TinkerCAD because it's quick and easy. I just can't get into Fusion360, plus the business model (HA!) for that product just spooks me.
    I started seriously learning Blender for game 3D modeling and really love it. It's crazy how powerful it's become and continues to become, it's just still not great for precision modeling, which bums me out because with a few veryyy minor UI tweaks it could also be incredibly powerful for both artistic and functional modeling.

    Revit and Archicad are BIM (building information modeling) programs. When drawing/modeling in them you use components with inherit properties like walls that have all the layers inside, height etc.
    Rhino is probably the best thing you could pick up for interior architecture! You can easily do every technical drawing in it. Btw check out grasshopper. It's a plugin in Rhino that enables parametric modeling.

    Hello Peter, this was a very different video and I hope your enjoying yourself as that is the only true measure of weather your doing well or not! I no longer spend time working on the computer I spend most of my time working in traditional Art methods. I spent years doing and working on a computer and I have little "real" artworks to show for my efforts. Plenty of digital files but not much to hand someone to hold and admire or dislike for that matter! I know your whole life and furture is ahead of you and I encourage you do do what you can to learn as much as you can! Knowledge will never hold you back, well in my experience it did not. Just more to know and less time to learn it.

    Seeing this is bittersweet. The sketch models are cool but all my vibes from Rhino come from my architectural design program. When I worked at an engineering firm, the beauty of AutoCAD or Microstation was their ability to allow multiple users to simultaneously work on the same file, but further "lock out" certain users from editing certain parts of those files. Since we were doing petro-chem designs, the piping group dictated how all other disciplines had to follow. Electrical could not just run their wires where ever they wanted, so they used the piping layers of a file for reference. If the pipers decided they needed to move their design over a few feet, then electrical had to make the same updates. It was powerful stuff back in the 90s and still overkill for most single users.

    that metaphor of you falling in a pit in an art sense is SO DAMN RELATABLE. god. thats an amazing way to put it. i have certain artistic hyper-fixations for a while, and i have common themes and sometimes i also wake up and look back and am like “wow... i wonder how people are perceiving this?” like i almost forgot that sometimes my art themes like SAY THINGS about me and it’s so weird to feel perceived. for so long i just make art for myself and post it as a way to keep track of it and it turned into my future career yknow? it’s all weirdly personal, even if abstract. maybe i just read too far into it but i often think about it.
    also i have a question: do you notice a difference in talking about your art in a video for youtube vs how you address it in a class critique? idk if thats a dumb question or if youve even thought about it, but i’m just curious to know what you like and dislike about the classroom group setting vs online feedback and responses?
    stay hydrated
