Lecture series on Transmission Lines and E.M Waves by Prof. R.K.Shevgaonkar, Dept of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay For more details on NPTEL visit nptel.iitm.ac.in
#2020#coronadays#emtlove I am here after completing the entire series of lectures...its been 12 years ever since this recording, still no alternative to this man, and he will continue to don for decades to come. Heartfelt thanks to you sir..
Hi Mam. I Just had a query ... Do you suggest any reference material along with this. i am planning to watch the complete series for my GATE 2021 Examination. Kindly suggest anything else if you want regarding this lecture series...so that i can get optimum benefits from this series. imnryn@gmail.com thnanks.
@@narayankumarchoudhary7584 please give me some suggestions (like which book should i read), i am also planning to watch this series for my gate 2022 ec preparation ...my mail id - biswasabhijit951@gmail.com
i HAVE TAKEN COURSES LIKE THIS THROUGH COLLEGE COURSES, ON THE JOB PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE, AND INDEPENDENT STUDY, AND IT IS ALWAYS GOOD TO GO BACK TO BASICS, AND GET DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES FROM DIFFERENT PROFESSORS... THANKS CARLOS.....OF LASER RADIO COMMUNICATIONS IN NYC.
Sir.....i am really blessed to lesson your lecturers....such an amazing journey of one of the toughest subject(according to me).you are really outstanding in your knowledge and at the same time your teaching skills....one may find very interesting these whole entire series with you...And for the people who are seeing this lecturers for the first time....for understanding of this subject then I may tell you "Gugs you are in the right place".And Prof. Shevgonkar I am really thankfull to you sir....one thing sir I just wanna touch your feet sir....for your great and outstanding knowledge and thanku so much nptel for this wonderful initiative...God bless you all....
@@contentcreator265 Pre-requisites::: 1.if you really learn and further wanted to do some research on this subject then right place but if you want to learn this only for Govt exams (I personally say "NO" for this subject from nptel)then take your own risk of time and understanding since it really takes lot of time and lot hell of a concentration. 2. You must have at least basic knowledge on vectors, and basic knowledge about electromagnetic waves.
Transmission-line theory shows that for all types of TEM mode transmission lines (coaxial, parallel-wire), the basic equations of voltage and current variation over the line are dV/dz = - (R + jwL)I, and dI/dz = -(G + jwC)V in which R, G, L and C are distributed parameters expressed as so many ohms/unit length, farads/unit length and so on. A derivation of this expression maybe found in several textbooks. . Transmission lines, operated in the radio frequency range and at higher frequencies, are generally modeled and analyzed using distributed parameters (inductances and capacitances), because the quasi steady-state conditions (that had allows us to write the capacitor reactance expression as 1/2πfC in the lumped regime of analysis) breakdown in transmission lines of lengths which are greater than the free space wavelengths of the signal. Thus, transmission lines are commonly analyzed considering the propagation of energy by the electric and magnetic fields (electromagnetic waves), around the conductors of the line; fields don't travel, the wave travels. It would be instructive to understand Current, the conduction process and Voltage at the fundamental level before progressing to a discussion of transmission line theory. Electrostatics and circuits belong to one science not two as in the following two videos: i. th-cam.com/video/TTtt28b1dYo/w-d-xo.html and ii. th-cam.com/video/8BQM_xw2Rfo/w-d-xo.html The sustenance of an electromagnetic wave between the conductors is because of two time-varying field processes, i. a changing magnetic field produces a curly electric field (Faraday’s Law), and ii. a changing electric field produces a curly magnetic field (Maxwell’s added term to Ampere’s Law). It is not possible in this post to discuss in more detail the distributed parameter approximation of transmission lines. The last frame References in video #1 lists textbook 4 which discusses these topics in more detail using a unified approach and provides an intuitive understanding of distributed capacitance and inductance of transmission lines.
"hedaya" is an Arabic word and it means guidance. Muslims normally say it when admiring somebody who's not Muslim. it's not related to terrorism at all!
Excellent piece of lecture and goods for all men. However, this would have been more helpful for people with less access to the internet, if only this can be use offline
I couldn't find the full pdf copy of Electromagnetic waves by Shevgaonkar on the internet. Many pages show "you have either reached a page that is unavailable for viewing limit for this book" in that pdf. I couldn't afford to buy this book. If anyone has the full pdf copy of this book, please share. Thanks and Cheers!
Essentially one could use this for the drinking game use essentially for the novice drinkers and one for the pro's lol. It is a great educational video also btw don't think i'm dissing it just because i though it was funny how many times he says one =).
C1 R = A/L not rL/A -- why? because electrons flow according to mv-squared rules. And in those rules a fluid in a thin pipe flows faster -- but electric theory says there is less flow in a thin conductor -- there are fewer electrons but they are moving faster; but when more electrons are in a CSA they move slower: naturally. So we need simpler theory to replace the current lies. You can see for yourself it is logicallyand actually impossible for a meter to measure BOTH voltage and current.
@infraredtechnician yea, man. This guy explains stuff better than my professor for EM. It's sad how my professor wants us to memorize stuff instead of learning. I rather learn to be honest. But then again, don't want to fail the class so yea.
No. The course starts with Transmisison Lines and proceeds to Maxwell's Equations, Uniform Plane Waves, Reflection/Refraction from Media, Parallel Plane Waves, Rectangular Waveguides, Basics of Antennas, Hertz Dipole linear Antennas, and Antenna Arrays. He talks about the syllabus in Lecture 1 around 40:00
Please fast-forward if you do not like what you hear/see instead of asking the majority to make allowances for you. Anyway, it is not a prayer, more of a quote.
I am amazed to see prayer song before the commencement of lectures in all videos made by IIT-Madras. Harvard per se is a Christian institution and do you see any such distractors in their publications? In the best interest of the nation, the prayer song should be removed so that we enjoy science and technology and not the propaganda of religious beliefs. It presents IIT-M faculty and Management in bad light. I sincerely hope IIT-M takes this comment seriously and reforms itself. Cheers

what is hedaya ?
hedaya means terrorist attack
allah give us a Terrorist Attack ??? Wtf is wrong with you people ?? Imran Khan
"hedaya" is an Arabic word and it means guidance.
Muslims normally say it when admiring somebody who's not Muslim. it's not related to terrorism at all!
Hedaya means guidance to the right pass Brother. You can listen to Brother Zakir Naik, he explains a lot of things.

Thank you very much, I am in your debt.
Elizabeth Greene D. K. Cheng is a good book for the course.
good
Does this topic require knowledge of Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos ?
ahnamus nope. but it requires knowledge of complex analysis and multi variable calculus.

sir i want information on transmission lines
Do we really need to watch all 60 lectures to understand the basics of transmission lines and EM waves?
depends on how much depth u want to acquire ...
these lectures are for every one whatever be their level of knowledge, interest or intelligence..
