Worth to note, the taken king isn't dead at the end of the expansion's story. The raid "king's fall" is where he dies for real. He had retired to his throne world, a parallel reality born from his mind, where the Guardian had to kill him for good.
That end cutscene was teasing a quest for a powerful weapon you could get after completing the main story. By taking the shard of crystal within Oryx’s sword, Eris was able to use it to forge one of three swords for the player, those being the Boltcaster, Razelighter, and Darkdrinker (personally, Darkdrinker was my favorite). Also, this wasn’t the end of Oryx: the player was able to freely explore the Dreadnaught after Oryx’s death and found his autobiography, the Books of Sorrow, which left plans for a weapon that would allow Oryx to continue to embody the Sword Logic should he himself be defeated. Eris would also help us create this weapon, albeit with a very different purpose from Oryx originally intended in mind, and she would call it the “Touch of Malice.” The ToM’s gimmick was that it could continue to fire while empty at the cost of health, but quickly defeating multiple enemies would restore health. The Touch of Malice really kicked off the trend of Guardians stuffing extremely powerful entities into guns, the other two examples being the Whisper of the Worm sniper rifle (increasing crit damage as you land crits) and the Parasite grenade launcher (the next shot gains a damage bonus as you kill enemies).
We did a similar thing with Crota and the Necrocasm, though that was slightly different. I don't know if it's been mentioned elsewhere, but the reason Oryx was laughing at the end was because he was taking himself and transporting himself to his ascendant throne where he can regain his strength and manifest in our world again. We later killed him permanently by slaying him in his throne world when we did the raid, "King's Fall." There we not only kill him by the end by turning his stolen light into bombs to destroy him, but prior to that we kill his Warpriest (the Hive Knight responsible for guarding Oryx's Throne and for managing his tribute of life essence from lesser Hive), Golgoroth (a colossal Ogre who guards his Tablets of Ruin, which hold the secret to being able to take), and hiw two dautghters, Ir Anuk and Ir Halak, the Weaver and the Unraveller (they restitch reality in front of his ship so that his throne world can move with it through real space). It is an impressive raid all around, by far one of the best in the game. It's also been ported over to Destiny 2 with some minor change to mechanics, so if you want to play it for free with a much more powerful character than you'd have in Destiny 1, you can do so.
19:14 As I was afraid of... only the nightstalker subclass was shown to you guys.. the other classes also got new elemental subclasses so i don't know if you'll go see them or not, good vid either way tho.
I don't have super strong nostalgia for d1 cus I was pretty late to the party (joined a little bit after rise of iron) but seeing the sunbreaker titan pull out their hammer for the first time always gets me
17:10 We didn’t destroy the Black GARDEN, but the Black HEART. The Black Garden is believed to be the birthplace of the Vex and it’s where the Black Heart resided, the entity that the Vex worshipped.
The end of the cutscene is Oryx Taking himself, the REAL end bossfight where you kill him is in the 6-person Raid, which unfortunately isn't included in the video. Same thing with Crota, also real boss fight in a raid. I wish they included some footage from the raids because it's important context. In the Dark Below we find out that the Hive gods have pocket dimensions called Throne Worlds, where their soul returns if they die in the real world, and they can eventually regenerate and be reborn. In the Dark Below campaign, we kill the crystal containing Crota's soul before he can be regenerated, but afterwards in the raid is when we actually infiltrate his Throne World and kill his soul for real. This is the same thing we do to kill Oryx, only we didn't kill Oryx first, he basically used the taken power to transport himself there while retaining all of his strength.
False, Oryx didn’t Take himself and he wouldn’t have lost any strength from us defeating him. There’s two main reasons for this misconception: 1. They use Taken energy effects with Oryx drains Willbreaker. 2. One of the environment designs in the Dreadnought ride-along spoke about Lore without understanding anything, he makes several hugely incorrect statements throughout. The thing to understand about the relationship between a Hive God and their Throne World is best described by Toland. Their physical body is a shadow cast by their true form, which is contained within their Throne World.
@@seanmurphy7845 So you're saying you disagree with the established fact because A, he literally used the exact animation of being taken but apparently that's just a coincidence, and B, a bungie employee literally confirmed it but they just don't know what they're talking about. Ok? Yes, Oryx would lose strength if we had killed him, that's how it works. That's the reason that the ascendant hive normally have to take sacrifices in order to gain enough power to regenerate, because in being killed in the material world they lose some power in the sword logic. By taking himself, Oryx prevents losing any power by being defeated, and doesn't have to be at a disadvantage when he fights us, this is established lore
@@velraven8944 That same Bungie Dev claimed that Oryx’s Throne World was inverted by him Taking himself, despite that being an event described in the Books of Sorrow that happened a millennia ago. Unless you want to argue the validity of that statement, then yes, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. On the note of established lore though, interesting you should say that I’m the one contradicting established lore. “Oryx inhabits a world where power is truth. To win is to be noble, and to be real. When He departs from that world, out into the material universe, He is lessened.” Words of Toland the Shattered. Oryx is not weakened by being killed in the material realm. All he loses is his physical body, which takes time or complex ritual to restore. There’s no benefit to him Taking himself here. There’s also no lore whatsoever that even acknowledges this misguided notion of Oryx having Taken himself. Look for it, you won’t find it. Only lore stating that we killed Oryx in our world and need to finish the job in his Throne World.
@@seanmurphy7845 "Only lore stating that we killed oryx in our world" how about you go and watch the fight again, we very clearly don't. He drains Willbreaker, and with his hand covered in taken energy, slams his chest, where his entire body then goes through the Taken animation, he only does this animation once and it's clearly intentional, it's not his normal teleport animation, it's specifically the animation of something being taken.
An hour of Destiny reaction? Yes, please! It is a shame to see you guys miss the story from the raids, especially this one, since Oryx actually doesn't die in the campaign story, but in the raid. But alas.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Hopefully they'll have all the individual seasons from d2 inbetween the expansions. those have some really great story stuff that leads up to the main expansions, and tbh I need a little refresher myself haha, been a hot minute!
36:37 By the way Oryx got the ability to "Take" by challenging the Worm God of secrets "AKKA". After slaying Akka, he gained the ability to speak to the Darkness directly but know one knew what happened when he went into the Darkness' dimension. When he returned he had the ability to take anyone into the Dimension of Darkness, bringing the Victims before the Darkness to become stronger, driven insane and brought back like a loyal hound to Oryx. Example: When a Cabal Phalanx is Taken, they're brought back with the ability to push enemies backwards. When a Psion is Taken, Oryx complained how lonely the Psion was in the Dark, so the Darkness gave them the ability to multiply.
Thank you for continuing to check out Destiny! You've got some really, really good stuff ahead of you guys. Bethany was so right, you've just scratched the surface of the vast narrative of Destiny! As some people have mentioned as well, Oryx is defeated in that battle but retreats deeper into his Throne World, where a team of six guardians venture in to destroy the Taken King once and for all. The crystal that came out of the sword was a core extracted from Oryx's Sword 'Willbreaker'. It is then given to us to forge into an exotic sword of our own choosing. Bethany also mentioned, is Oryx attached to the sword; No he is not! But, when Oryx is finally defeated for real, he does leave us blueprints for a weapon known as Touch of Malice, where we stole a fragment of his soul. It's sort of a scheme for him to live forever, as a weapon in the hands of the only thing strong enough to defeat him: Us. Sorry for the tangent, Destiny is sort of my passion ;) Loved the reaction guy, have a great day!
Tangents like this are why we love the community. We get to learn so much more about the stuff we cover. So thanks for helping our Destiny education 😁🙂🥳
REALLY digging the longer format video! Also, I like the little "break" between parts, where you guys can kinda reflect on what's going on so far. Kudos to whoever edited the gameplay video, too; they did a great job, showing enough gameplay so you get all the context of what's going on, instead of having to try and piece things together.
Nice to see your reaction to legendary Taken King, one fun fact, that massive ship, The Dreadnaught is about 3500km long, at least that what was calculated by using 2 methods, one is with use the knowlegde about the size of Saturn rings, and the second was with the space rock that crashed on the dreadnaught hull in the trailer.
A suggestion i have in regards to Destiny next is a video made by MyNameisByf, called Dynasty, which goes over the lore and origins of the Hive and Oryx himself, not only is that video a testament to how good the lore is but also how passionate the Destiny community is when sharing the lore
I would not suggest long and complicated lore videos by anyone. Id let them explore that on there own or explain in the comments here. Byf certainly has alot of production value but without diving in to the lore which it seems they havent at all it may be daunting for them to watch something from Byf.
@@wiredvex99 Byf’s channel exists because Bungie sucked at telling their story for so long. Dynasty is an amazing video to watch if they like Destiny, because it is for new players and players unfamiliar with the lore. They’re not going to experience it themselves. Half of Destiny 2’s current players have never actually experienced the story.
This is really when the story starts consistently getting good! Also check out King's Fall, it's the raid from that DLC and you'll see the real size of Oryx 😈 (it's how he really dies)
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames you should check out the Remastered version of Kings Fall, it just dropped a couple weeks ago in Destiny 2, and it's beautiful here's a video comparing the visuals of the two, th-cam.com/video/skZLMo7kXko/w-d-xo.html there's dozens of videos of people running the raid online, shouldn't be too hard to find one you'd be comfortable watching
That "nice weapon" that you mentioned at 44:40, is an Exotic rocket launcher called the Gjallarhorn. It's very powerful, and makes quite a lot of difficult enemies look easy, it fires a single tracking rocket that splits into multiple smaller rockets called "Wolfpack Rounds", that either split off to attack other enemies or cause extra damage to the original enemy that was attacked. Generally it's used as a weapon that deals lots of damage to large single targets like bosses. It's pretty much the number 1 favourite weapon in the Destiny community.
If you want to know more about Oryx and the Hive in general, I'd suggest looking up Dynasty - it's a feature length fan-film that talks all about their history and lore, done by a bunch of people in the community. Might be worth reacting to as well, if you want.
Cayde-6 is the reason why I'm a Hunter main in game! He embodied the adventurous spirit to where I ended up playing the game so much with the mindset of "I want to make Cayde proud I'm one of the Hunters!"
In general it works like this in Destiny: An expansion comes out with a singleplayer story. The end of the singleplayer story is kinda a soft ending and sets up sidequests and group content. Group content can be as large as something called a Raid which is a challenging dungeon where 6 players have to work together to defeat encounters. So "killing" Oryx here is setup for a large raid where you fight Oryx and defeat him properly. I find Destiny lore quite interesting. Quick rundown goes a little like this: There's Light represented by the Traveller, this is the force of creation and life. And the Darkness which is the opposing force. The alien races are the Fallen, technology-worshipping space pirates who I think were under the Traveller's wing until the advancing darkness forced the Traveller to move on to its last hope, humanity. Next is the Cabal, think Roman Legions, very militaristic and they just go around conquering. The Vex are hive-mind robots who transform worlds into giant machines to make more Vex and last is my favourite, the Hive. All of this you already know, just summarizing. This is not told in cutscenes, you have to dig for this info: The Hive come from a watery planet where in the depths of its oceans the Darkness lay in wait. I think there was a struggle that created the Taken because the Hive were to be the champions of the Darkness just as humanity is the champions of the Traveller. Like the dwarves in Lord of the Rings they delved too deep and like in Lord of the Rings the darkness corrupted them so those that did not become ringwraiths (the Taken) became kinda Gollum which is why they look so decrepit and decaying and "zombie-like" The Hive are the most "fantasy" of the alien races with like wizards and thralls and acolytes and knights and so on but it's twisted and profane and that's why I love them. They give a vibe of an ancient decaying civilization that's been unable to progress for a very long time.
The hive follow what they call the sword logic. its a kind of social darwinism in which the strong rise. The strong overcome the weak, and in time, this leads to a "sharpening" of the race in order for it to survive the end of the universe. This also is a way to acquire paracausal power. Paracausality is essentially the ability to break the laws of the universe. Guardians, for example are paracausal. With enough paracausal power, the hive create a "throne world" in another plane, which they go to when they "die" although the hive dont really see this as a death. Only the truly powerful can do this. Otherwise, the hive see resurrection as a heresy, and as such even if they had the same power would not ressurect dead hive, as this goes against the sword logic. The hive are also essentially enslaved to a race of worm gods they were tricked into serving. They must continually feed the worms they have inside them by killing or causing devastation. Each tier takes enough essence to feed their worm, and as much extra power that they dare take without incurring the wrath of those above them, and past the rest up as tribute. Even oryx and his sisters are bound by this, passing power to the worm gods, and the worm gods presumably to the darkness itself (well a specific figure, but that comes into focus later). The hive cannot stop this process or they die. This pushes them towards what is called "this final shape" which comes into play farther down the story. The taken are outside of this tribute system, they have been stripped of everything by their master, even the self. They pass everything to their master.
So exited for you guys to get into some of the later stuff! Might be getting a bit ahead of myself but when you get to some of the Destiny 2 stuff i def recommend looking for vids that cover all the content from that year, as some major story beats happen outside of the main DLC. (try searching stuff like ‘Destiny 2, all year 2 cutscenes’) You should only have to do this for year-2 onwards tho, Red war, CoO and Warmind should all have their own vids
So where you guys got the Nightstalker mission, the other two classes got new subclasses as well. The Warlocks became Stormcallers and gained lightning powers and Titans became Sunbreakers and gained flame. The mission to get Sunbreaker was so emotionally moving for me that it inspired me to get the first (of very many) tattoos. I got the Sunbreaker's hammer icon. Because when you become a Sunbreaker, you are asked to "choose the form your light will take." That statement has come to mean a lot to me.
The rock Eris took was the essence of Oryx's sword, which we will have to cleanse to create Swords of Light. Oryx escaped to his throne world in that last scene and we need to kill him for good in the raid "King's Fall". To understand this know that when you kill powerful hive you need to kill them again in their throne worlds, which is a pocket dimension they create to their image
Oh thank you so much for this! I love destiny with every fibre of my being, seeing this reaction vid pop up in my feed put the biggest smile on my face! To this day that battle between Mara’s and Oryx’s fleets gives me chills!
1:04:03 If you don't know Oryx retreated back into his "Throne World" which eventually the Guardian defeats in the raid "The Kings fall". But that was not the end of him, he predicted he would be killed by someone who is hungry to dominate Gods, so he turned himself into the legendary scout rifle you can get called the "Touch of Malice". In his eyes he succeeded in becoming apart Darwinism/Sword logic which is also the Darkness wants, to dominate and become more powerful. ):D
Oryx was not defeated yet, he retreated his soul bind in his throne world in the deepest part of the dreadnought. In the raid King's Fall you destroy his lasts defenses and finally kill him ! that's why he laughed !
Always great to see you two exploring Destiny. I love this game. As far as the ending, Oryx "takes" himself and retreats to his "throne" world. All really powerful hive have their own throne world. If they die they go to their throne world to gather power and resurrect later. So hive can be technically immortal. The hive teach that killing strong opponents is the way of life and the bigger the opponent you kill, the bigger your throne world. So, strong hive are constantly killing each other and resurrecting. But, the guardians figured out how to get into these throne worlds. If you kill a hive in their throne world, they are permanently dead. Crota and Oryx are both killed this way in Destiny raids that you haven't seen. They've been left out because there really isn't much to them in the way of dialog. You actually seen some of the raid environments though. The Vault of Glass visited in The House of Wolves is where the first raid takes place. Then the second raid is in the same place where you steal Crota's soul for Eris. The third is in Oryx's throne world.
Once again the raid for the taken king 'Kings fall' finishes up the story which is set up by the final cutscene with oryx disappearing , for Rise of iron the raid in that 'Wrath of the Machine' is loosely connected to that dlc's story
I would recommend the compete story of destiny by “my name is bye” it’s about 4 hours long, so kinda long shot suggestion but goes over all the lore from the series. It’s a really interesting watch, if that’s a bit too long then maybe the 3 “book of sorrows” vids from the same creator, it goes over the origins of the hive and the taken (the book of sorrows is covered in the complete story vid as well)
you guys have to watch a full raid playthrough!! each raid ties up the story for its respective DLC, and id love to watch yalls reaction to some of the best game content there was in 2015
YES! Finally the best part of the game. I don’t know if you remember but when y’all went through the main story one of the moon missions was about oryx’s temple. He’s was foreshadowed since the beginning!
The undead space bugs travel in giant coffins. You might also want to check out Mandaloregaming's series about Pathways Into Darkness and Marathon, Bungie's first series that they pulled all their Halo and Destiny ideas from. It's pretty trippy. Apologies if this message shows up twice, youtube's being screwy.
So FYI the 3 hive gods Oryx, Savathun and xivu arath cant die unless you kill them in there throne worlds. the end cinematic with Oryx laughing is because he took himself so he did not die we then had to do a raid (6 man activity hardest content in destiny) Kingsfall where we actually defeat him. The raids do have cinematics or dialouge but I would recomend just watching the final encounter where we fight oryx his spawn and death animations are awsome. Also the crystal that eris obtained from oryx's sword at the very end we use to craft our own swords: Darkdrinker - void sword that has a spinning attack, Razelighter - solar sword that does a flaming upercut and boltcaster arc sword that throws electric rings from distance
Basically what happened in that last cutscene is Oryx didn’t want to die at our hands, and therefore summoned his power and ‘took’ himself. Taking can pretty much be summed up as taking one’s soul and binding their will to your own after doing so. Oryx took his own soul so his will is his own, but he did free his soul from his body which was automatically sent to his throne world (It’s a whole other explanation as to what a throne world is, as it’s probably not what your thinking. But I can explain if you like) and he becomes the final boss of Taken King’s raid where he’s like 100 feet tall. And finally that shard that Eris takes from Oryx’s sword, she gives it to us. We then work with Eris to fashion it into another sword that we can use. Which was the first sword we could ever equip and use in Destiny.
Not sure if someone explained it alreaday but there are two unresolved things here - the crystal is made into one of three swords as others have said - he laughed because he is not tecnichaly dead. The very strong Hive can create a pocket dimension when they die they go there instead of actually dieing. In this expansions raid you go there and kill oryx permanantly. (the place where he got the soul while invisible was crota's pocket dimension we also killed him there in a raid back in dark bellow) EDIT: forgot to mention these are called throne worlds in the game (willbe referenced later always good to know)
When you get around to watching Rise of Iron cutscenes you may want to go and watch the cutscenes for the new supers they weren't included in this video for some reason but also at the end there Oryx took himself and ends up being like those glowing enemies you see in the video also you fight the Taken version of Oryx in the raid
To explain the ending, Eris is good, she always has been, even now in Destiny 2: Witch Queen. The shard that she took is a gift for us to make our own sword based on an element of our choosing. As for Oryx, he took himself which allowed him to retreat into his Throne World which is a realm in the ascendent plane where he can be truly killed, which you travel to in the King's Fall raid to do. So glad to see you guys continuing Destiny! I love these 🤍
As others have stated, Oryx did not die at the end there he "Took" himself, aka warped himself back into a place called a Throne World, which is the only place an ascendant hive can be killed. You guys should probably try and find (and react to :D) a video about the King's Fall Raid, here is where we get to see Oryx in his truest form and where he is truly killed (there wont be much in terms of dialogue or such tho)
The flying white orb you see is Toland, the Shattered, one of the six that went into the Hellmouth. He had his own agenda (mainly to find a "Deathsong") and got the other 4, minus Eris, killed.
The part where the guardian gets the bow is one of the side quest to unlock a new subclass. Hunters get the bow, titans get a flaming hammer that they can throw at enemies, and warlock can shoot lightning out of their hands. There is an alternate timeline where Eris turns evil and helps the darkness destroy everything but it seems like we avoided that. Otherwise she's good but a little weird. Oryx (winner of the worst father of the year award for 37,284,482 years in a row) is laughing because he retreated into a different section of the dreadnoght. You fight him again in the raid where you actually kill him and put his soul into a gun.
The crystal from the sword leads to a quest where you make your own sword from it. You have the choice between Raze Lighter, Dark Drinker, or Bolt Caster. I made Dark Drinker, some people made all three.
I haven't even gotten through the intro yet but Taken King is where Destiny really found its storytelling stride in my personal opinion. Hope you two enjoy it. Destiny got a bit too expensive for my wallet so I've been on a several-year hiatus but hey that's how it is. Glad you've kept going with the journey. I know the beginning stuff can seem pretty jarring/weird without certain context. Edit after video: I really love getting into lore when I'm invested in a series and the hive are just a huge lore topic all their own. Anyways, great video as always.
To answer the question at the 21:00 mark, old Russia is the only location on earth you can explore. The European Dead Zone or EDZ is later added in Destiny 2, with rumors of an Old Chicago in the future
Part of the reason Oryx was laughing at the end was because his whole philosophy was similar to a warrior's mindset - he was happy to finally find and meet a foe that could defeat him.
34:29 Yeah the Cabal are very pissed about Phobos, so they decided to ram their ship into the side of the Dreadnought. Also here's my favorite soundtrack below: th-cam.com/video/qbxedXb5zqY/w-d-xo.html
To answer your question about the ghosts, as a guardian your only given one ghost, and if its destroyed you still have the power of a demigod, but your no longer immortal
so the bit at the end where Oryx got sucked up while laughing was him dying and going to his throne world which is where the raid for this expansion was and where we finish him off for good, while the bit with Eris after that was the start of a quest that would give the player a sword which was introduced as a heavy weapon in this expansion.
About the ending. Oryx didn't die at the end of the story, but instead retired/ transported himself to his throne world (a pocket dimension where he's basically in control). So us the player as well as 5 others go on a very long mission (a raid) titled "King's Fall" where we basically hunt him and his servants down and take them out one by one leading up to the true final show down with Oryx where he does die. As for Eris, she can come off as creepy and especially evil (some of the cutscenes don't help her case) but I promise you she's a good guy.
Man, the guy who made this skipped one of my favorite lines from Cayde. As the main character is fighting to defend the transmat zone, Cayde asks Zavala if he wants to see what a transmat zone on the dreadnought looks like. Zavala then angrily responds *YOU SENT A GUARDIAN ON THE DREADNOUGHT WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION?.* To which Cayde replies "Oh right, can I have authorization?"
The ‘taken’ concept is so wild, so in the lore cards you get for killing each of the new taken variations of old enemies, it basically went “I recognize that X is a shortcoming you wish to overcome, here is Y magic power that will do so. Have an open flank? Here’s a shield that only you can shoot through. Have problems solo but wreck in a group? Here’s the ability to multiply. Just let me snack on that *will* nom nom”
5:16 The Taken King soundtrack has a track called "Bow To No One" that is truly epic, like full on orchestra blasting out heroic music... it also proved so popular that they brought it BACK when Destiny 2: Forsaken came out because it was an Awoken themed expansion, but only partially for track 14: The Queen's Oracle Hell, the original track is so epic it needs to be shared... the official post by Michael Salvatori, the composer: th-cam.com/video/dr39Tc_cNLU/w-d-xo.html
it is Unfortunately Stupid. those Damned *Hive* . even so, definitely not definitive: there are others more (Real Space Time-speaking) 'older' than those like the *Hive's* . watching out for those said-others. Lore-wise.
The end of oryx laughing was not good lol ,the expansion came out with another raid called kings fall and the final boss is oryx but like hundreds of feet tall it was really fun and made him feel more imposing like he did during the story
The version of oryx you fight at the end isnt his actual form, you dont meet his real form until the last encounter of the raid where he's like 10x his size maybe even more cause he's almost the size of his ship
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this before but when the guardian is looking for the stealth drive in the last room, there are what appear to be stasis pods. In one of those pods, the ghost states that there is a powerful guardian in there and refused to be revived, as he has seen enough battle to last a lifetime. FUN-FACT, that “guardian” apparently is master chief from HALO
You actually kill Oryx in his raid, Kings Fall (I think). You bring your Fireteam of six (I think), kill Taken, solve puzzles until you reach his boss room. The. You kill him, and he drifts into Saturn. End of story, yet the Taken prevail without him.
Where he got sucked into a black hole is he took himself. This leads to the kings fall raid, we’re you kill the Warpriest, his top general, Gologroth, a big scary ogre that was meant to kill him but he captured and tamed it, his twin daughters Ir Halak and Ir Anuk the deathsingers, then you finally confront Oryx in his ascendant form where he is 50 feet tall and you kill him for good. When you kill him in the raid his body crystalizes and begins to fall to Saturn. Afterwards there is a quest to unlock the Touch Of Malice gun, which is his soul trapped in a rifle.
So, that last cutscene where Oryx draws a massive orb of Taken energy out of his sword, he Takes himself. This, as others have mentioned below, is what unlocks the Raid. Basically, Oryx rage quit rather than get killed by the Guardian. He's not dead, though. Still isn't, even though his physical form gets destroyed in the Raid. His spirit is hanging around somewhere. That's the big letdown of these videos. There's more side mission's after the main campaign ends, include 3 person strikes to slay a couple of Usurpers and a pair of Cabal officers. This entire part of the Destiny story is called the Taken War and it officially ran for over a year irl. There are three elements of story that crop up during the Taken War that were not covered in this video. They come up during other missions. The first is that ther is another Hive on Crota's level named Nokris, but the only evidence of him is a single statue. The second is that the Cabal who crashed into the Dreadnought, the Skyburner Legion, have no officers left and have sent a distress call for reinforcements to the capital of their Empire. Lastly, Oryx had one of his sister, Savathun's, children as a Taken hostage. Savathun tries to use him to take Oryx's place, but we kill him too. Also, those two Hive with triangular heads at Crota's funeral were his sisters. They are slain by the Guardians during the Raid. TLDR; there is a lot more to the Taken War.
Eris is indeed a debby downer but god does she change in the sequel. Last season had her mending everyone’s ptsd, it was so wholesome and “human” for someone so weird, cold and distant. All i can say is she’s been through so major crap in her day.
So during the oryx fight the reason the player didn't use the bow a lot was because Oryx drained the player of his light. There was a message in the lower left stating as much. The item Eris gets at the end as others have pointed out is a piece of Oryx's sword that we purify in the light and turn into one of three exotic swords of our choosing. Something about the Hive especially Oryx and his brood and his siblings is that they grew powerful enough to make their own pocket dimensions called ascendant realms. If they die outside of the pocket dimension their soul will go back to it and they can be brought back to life there by their own power. So to truly kill them, we have to travel to that pocket dimension and kill them there. The mysterious stranger you guys were talking about at the end actually doesn't reappear again until the second most recent expansion called Beyond Light in Destiny 2 where we find out who she actually is. You guys should watch My Name Is Byf here on TH-cam. He explains so much about each of the enemy races and the overall lore of the destiny universe. And Cayde is the absolute best character of the series. I will say this though when you guys get to the Forsaken expansion in Destiny 2 I would kindly ask that you message me before you do it so I can kindly remind you to bring something extra to that reaction vid.
The taken king, was such a amazing dlc, and when story finally started coming out in destiny. If you can check out the other guardian classes, scenes getting the new supers. Incredible video and as always keep being awesome
Literally like 2 weeks ago today, the current story in Destiny 2 took us back to Titan, a moon of Saturn. After his true death in the raid, his body apparently fell to Titan, because Oryx's corpse is the final boss room in the newest dungeon.
Hey guys! I've been a lurker for awhile now on this channel and I really love your videos and your reactions, definitely my favorite reaction channel right now. I've been especially happy to see you guys enjoying your Destiny journey! If you decide to hop into watching the Destiny 2 story, the TH-cam channel Destin makes probably the most complete and best constructed videos regarding the cutscenes and storyline for every expansion and season that has story (some are longer than others). Not only do they consist of the main cutscenes and story gameplay, but they also include the afterwards story elements like the raids and the important quests that help bring the story completely together while keeping out all the unimportant gameplay and details. Give some of their Destiny 2 all cutscenes videos a look and hopefully you'll be able to react to them by the time you reach Destiny 2! Keep up the amazing videos and reactions! 😄
The end cutscene is Oryx going into his Throne World. To truly kill a Hive God, you must kill them in their Throne world. Thus the King's Fall raid. Which by the way was updated and re-released in Destiny 2. The crystal Eris took was used to create Swords infused with Light that Guardians can use. There is a lot of lore for The Taken King that fills in the gaps of the main campaign. Eris Morn becomes a major character in Destiny 2. The last DLC for Destiny 1 is Rise of Iron then on to Destiny 2; you're so close.
Oh also, no, Ghosts cannot be repaired. They're living things, though they look like machines, they're made with what we only know, basically, as magic. The Traveller made them and only the Traveller knows how they work, sadly.
I still remember how much of a pain in the ass it was to complete the mission to unlock the Black Hammer exotic sniper, you had to complete a strike in like 2 minutes but the last room had the boss and taken psions, who split into two, so you had to kill all of them but they kept multiplying.
At the end when oryx disappeared he actually took himself which set up the game for a new raid activity where you actually kill him loved the reaction :)
There is a separate video where you can see the missions for each separate new subclass that cam out as nightstaljer was the only one showed to you guys
Honestly if u guys truly want to learn about the lore and story of destiny (especially Oryx, his sisters, and the hive) you need to watch 'My Name Is Byf'. Great lore guide and storyteller. He has a video called Dynasty which you NEED to watch
This was peak Destiny. The whole chapter was so much fun, and the raid was spectacular. But all things considered, I think the Dreadnought blowing a hole into Saturn's rings is still my favourite image from the whole campaign.
at the end there, Oryx essentially "took" himself. And The top ascendant hive cant be killed by normal means, they cant be killed in normal reality. Top ascendant hive have what they call "Throne Worlds" where they store their true souls. That is where Oryx fled when he "took" himself. To his throne world. And its there where this expansion's Raid takes place, a six man very challenging activity, which is one the most thrilling activities to do in Destiny. It is there where we truly defeat him. Also funny enough, they recently brought the Taken King raid from Destiny 1, back in Destiny 2, its been a blast of nostalgia.
At the end of the campaign, Oryx uses his power to take himself. That’s why he laughs and teleports away. This is a set up for the raid that came out soon after the campaign. Raids are a much higher difficulty activity that requires teamwork from six players. The specific raid referenced here is called kings fall. In it, a team of guardians break back into the dreadnaught, killing their way through Oryx’s champions until finally confronting him at the center of the dreadnaught. I won’t spoil to much of what happens then, just know he is not quite the same, and he is a much bigger threat.
Mara Sov the Awoken Queen is a lot more powerful than meets the eye so don’t think this is the last time you’ll see her. Also nice Shang Tsung impression there Ken.
Wow, and you just posted this the day The Taken King came out! One hell of a timing.

Worth to note, the taken king isn't dead at the end of the expansion's story. The raid "king's fall" is where he dies for real. He had retired to his throne world, a parallel reality born from his mind, where the Guardian had to kill him for good.
😎👍🙂
He doesnt die for real real, he lives on in the touch of malice
@@smnmxn Ahh, Hive Magic Shenanigans.
You guys should watch the raid afte this. It's called king's fall and oryx shows his true power
@@smnmxn I worked my butt off for that in D1, and now I have to randomly grind this raid over and over in D2
The Books of Sorrow are more like the Hive’s version of the Bible. It tells of their creation, history, and how they must serve the darkness.
Touch of Malice. Love the name 😎🤟 thanks for telling us more about what happens after 😀
Oryx’s sword is Willbreaker.
To be fair, not all of Xol is in Whisper, not to mention that's exactly what he wanted cuz we feed him with a lot of death like that
19:14 As I was afraid of... only the nightstalker subclass was shown to you guys.. the other classes also got new elemental subclasses so i don't know if you'll go see them or not, good vid either way tho.
😎👍🙂 Thanks for letting us know what happens on the raids to give us more context
False, Oryx didn’t Take himself and he wouldn’t have lost any strength from us defeating him.
There’s two main reasons for this misconception:
When He departs from that world, out into the material universe, He is lessened.”
Words of Toland the Shattered.
I believe when he gets pulled at the end, it leads to the raid where you truly kill him. That's a whole other thing
😎👍🙂
An hour of Destiny reaction? Yes, please!
It is a shame to see you guys miss the story from the raids, especially this one, since Oryx actually doesn't die in the campaign story, but in the raid. But alas.

By the way Oryx got the ability to "Take" by challenging the Worm God of secrets "AKKA".
Example:
When a Cabal Phalanx is Taken, they're brought back with the ability to push enemies backwards.
The cutscene under represents it so hard it’s hilarious
A suggestion i have in regards to Destiny next is a video made by MyNameisByf, called Dynasty, which goes over the lore and origins of the Hive and Oryx himself, not only is that video a testament to how good the lore is but also how passionate the Destiny community is when sharing the lore
I would not suggest long and complicated lore videos by anyone. Id let them explore that on there own or explain in the comments here. Byf certainly has alot of production value but without diving in to the lore which it seems they havent at all it may be daunting for them to watch something from Byf.
@@wiredvex99 yeah that’s fair tbh
@@wiredvex99 Byf’s channel exists because Bungie sucked at telling their story for so long. Dynasty is an amazing video to watch if they like Destiny, because it is for new players and players unfamiliar with the lore. They’re not going to experience it themselves. Half of Destiny 2’s current players have never actually experienced the story.
@@chase5436 Thats fair to say but this games lore is daunting like no tomorrow. Im just not so sure they would want to react to this kind of content.
This is really when the story starts consistently getting good!

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames you should check out the Remastered version of Kings Fall, it just dropped a couple weeks ago in Destiny 2, and it's beautiful

there's dozens of videos of people running the raid online, shouldn't be too hard to find one you'd be comfortable watching
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Absolutely, raids are the best. Some of the best moments happen in them.
I never seen a Hunter neglect his Shade Step to this level.
If you want to know more about Oryx and the Hive in general, I'd suggest looking up Dynasty - it's a feature length fan-film that talks all about their history and lore, done by a bunch of people in the community. Might be worth reacting to as well, if you want.
Thanks for the recommendation 😀
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I would second this, it's also done by Byf, one of the Officially unofficial destiny lore keepers
Cayde-6 is the reason why I'm a Hunter main in game! He embodied the adventurous spirit to where I ended up playing the game so much with the mindset of "I want to make Cayde proud I'm one of the Hunters!"
Nice! We can see him inspiring a lot of Hunters 🙂🤩
In general it works like this in Destiny:
An expansion comes out with a singleplayer story.
Quick rundown goes a little like this:
There's Light represented by the Traveller, this is the force of creation and life.
This is not told in cutscenes, you have to dig for this info:
The Hive come from a watery planet where in the depths of its oceans the Darkness lay in wait. I think there was a struggle that created the Taken because the Hive were to be the champions of the Darkness just as humanity is the champions of the Traveller. Like the dwarves in Lord of the Rings they delved too deep and like in Lord of the Rings the darkness corrupted them so those that did not become ringwraiths (the Taken) became kinda Gollum which is why they look so decrepit and decaying and "zombie-like"
The Hive are the most "fantasy" of the alien races with like wizards and thralls and acolytes and knights and so on but it's twisted and profane and that's why I love them.
I’ve been waiting for this ever since you’ve started these destiny reactions
So exited for you guys to get into some of the later stuff!
Might be getting a bit ahead of myself but when you get to some of the Destiny 2 stuff i def recommend looking for vids that cover all the content from that year, as some major story beats happen outside of the main DLC. (try searching stuff like ‘Destiny 2, all year 2 cutscenes’) You should only have to do this for year-2 onwards tho, Red war, CoO and Warmind should all have their own vids
Thanks for the recommendation! We have Rise of Iron next and then into the D2 stuff 🙂
Nice. Thanks for telling us about the other new subclasses 🙂
Nice, you guys reacting to the taken king makes me happy, oryx was one of those that was a serious threat
1:04:03
If you don't know Oryx retreated back into his "Throne World" which eventually the Guardian defeats in the raid "The Kings fall".
But that was not the end of him, he predicted he would be killed by someone who is hungry to dominate Gods, so he turned himself into the legendary scout rifle you can get called the "Touch of Malice".
In his eyes he succeeded in becoming apart Darwinism/Sword logic which is also the Darkness wants, to dominate and become more powerful. ):D
Ah The Taken King… the expansion that turned my Warlock into Palpatine.
Can't wait for you two to catch up to theore recent stuff, it's really, really good.
I love the 3 swords that’s shards makes, such powerful swords!
The undead space bugs travel in giant coffins.

Apologies if this message shows up twice, youtube's being screwy.
"Eris...get your rock...off my map" iconic cayde line
Not sure if someone explained it alreaday but there are two unresolved things here
- the crystal is made into one of three swords as others have said
- he laughed because he is not tecnichaly dead. The very strong Hive can create a pocket dimension when they die they go there instead of actually dieing. In this expansions raid you go there and kill oryx permanantly. (the place where he got the soul while invisible was crota's pocket dimension we also killed him there in a raid back in dark bellow)
EDIT: forgot to mention these are called throne worlds in the game (willbe referenced later always good to know)
YAY Taken King! This was where I got into Destiny. I'm gonna save this to watch on my lunch break. :)
I love these 🤍
He didn’t Take himself he just went to his Throne World
@@OhYeah_ it's confirmed that he took himself to do so
@@donnexking9360 no it is not, he is just transporting himself to his throne world to retreat.
@@OhYeah_ Bungie said that he took himself
@@donnexking9360 do you have a link or something? because I genuinely don't remember them saying that
As others have stated, Oryx did not die at the end there he "Took" himself, aka warped himself back into a place called a Throne World, which is the only place an ascendant hive can be killed. You guys should probably try and find (and react to :D) a video about the King's Fall Raid, here is where we get to see Oryx in his truest form and where he is truly killed (there wont be much in terms of dialogue or such tho)
Huh, some hell of a timing you got, beautiful
The raid that you kill Crota was re-released in the Destiny 2 game just recently. Nostalgia for days.
Part of the reason Oryx was laughing at the end was because his whole philosophy was similar to a warrior's mindset - he was happy to finally find and meet a foe that could defeat him.
5:38 the theme song of the “kings fall” raid where we kill oryx for good

Yeah the Cabal are very pissed about Phobos, so they decided to ram their ship into the side of the Dreadnought.
Also here's my favorite soundtrack below:

During the death ceremony the two big Deathsingers, they are actually Crota’s sisters, they also made the Dreadnaught super weapon
Oryx comes back again, but it is a Raid Format - 6 man Fireteam used to challenges or puzzles.
5:16 The Taken King soundtrack has a track called "Bow To No One" that is truly epic, like full on orchestra blasting out heroic music... it also proved so popular that they brought it BACK when Destiny 2: Forsaken came out because it was an Awoken themed expansion, but only partially for track 14: The Queen's Oracle
Hell, the original track is so epic it needs to be shared... the official post by Michael Salvatori, the composer: th-cam.com/video/dr39Tc_cNLU/w-d-xo.html
Oryx himself predates even the creation of Earth, the dude really is an ancient evil.
it is Unfortunately Stupid. those Damned *Hive* .
even so, definitely not definitive: there are others more (Real Space Time-speaking) 'older' than those like the *Hive's* .
watching out for those said-others. Lore-wise.
A bit of a fun fact, before Oryx became Taken King, he was once Aurash, Princess to the Osmium Dynasty of Fundament.
the raids are the actual ending of the DLC's. "Crota's End" raid and "King's Fall" raid

The Guardian destroyed the Black Heart and the Vex worshipping it not the Black Garden.
Or as some hipsters suggest, the security guy from Marathon.
You actually kill Oryx in his raid, Kings Fall (I think). You bring your Fireteam of six (I think), kill Taken, solve puzzles until you reach his boss room. The. You kill him, and he drifts into Saturn. End of story, yet the Taken prevail without him.
YESSSSSSSSSS, im a small bit late, been looking forward to this
Where he got sucked into a black hole is he took himself.
"I like cayde", "yeah he's awesome". And so it goes
😊
I think there’s a full video of the kings fall raid that you could watch, that’s what ends the taken king story line for d1
Let's goooooo!!!! Boi I've been waiting bro 🔥🔥
The taken king, was such a amazing dlc, and when story finally started coming out in destiny. If you can check out the other guardian classes, scenes getting the new supers. Incredible video and as always keep being awesome
I really hope they do, they’re all such amazing cutscenes
Literally like 2 weeks ago today, the current story in Destiny 2 took us back to Titan, a moon of Saturn. After his true death in the raid, his body apparently fell to Titan, because Oryx's corpse is the final boss room in the newest dungeon.
The bow is in 3rd person because it is an ultimate ability not a standard weapon
Yes you are finally there
To continue the stories there is usually a raid after the campaign. Good stuff.
55:50 oryxs twin daughters / crotas sisters at this time stamp. The big ones.
Have heard that video is top tier. We will get to his stuff eventually. 🙂😅
The Raids are where you fight the final bosses in the game. You would need to watch playthroughs of those to see the true endings.
😎👍🙂 we heard the taken king comes back bigger and badder for the final fight 😳
At the end of the campaign, Oryx uses his power to take himself. That’s why he laughs and teleports away. This is a set up for the raid that came out soon after the campaign. Raids are a much higher difficulty activity that requires teamwork from six players. The specific raid referenced here is called kings fall. In it, a team of guardians break back into the dreadnaught, killing their way through Oryx’s champions until finally confronting him at the center of the dreadnaught. I won’t spoil to much of what happens then, just know he is not quite the same, and he is a much bigger threat.
I can’t wait for you two to get to Destiny 2
Oh man if y’all liked the Cayde and Eris interactions, you definitely need to listen to the interactions between Eris and Drifter in Destiny 2.
I'm sure it's a great reaction as always🥰
Mara Sov the Awoken Queen is a lot more powerful than meets the eye so don’t think this is the last time you’ll see her. Also nice Shang Tsung impression there Ken.
