  • Small hands?, can't reach the levers with gloves on even when fully in?, cant afford fancy billet adjustables? ...here's a quick and cost free way to safely adapt the existing levers to give you up to an inch closer to the bar for safer operation..!

    That's a brilliant tip, I have very small hands and position 4 on my Bonnie is OK but I may now take 1-2mm off to make it perfect. Thanks for all the great videos.

    Del - your videos are great!! I passed my mod 2 last Wednesday (on first try, confidence improved thanks to your uploads) and have been out every day on my R6 (which is the most uncomfortable thing ever after my YBR125(!), but I still love it)! I want to be quite self sufficient and your videos are a huge help! Thank you!!

      Hi Sarah.. thanks for your kind comments, and bloody well done on passing your test... good on you girl, and welcome the the biker collective.. maybe you can get along to one of the monthly meets we have and make a few new mates... we're going to be at the Ace Cafe on June 8th, about 30 of us at least, and if you can get along there it would be great to meet you... all the best, and ride safe on the R6... take care, Del.

    I've just done this mod to my 4 position adjustable levers on my Guzzi 750 due to a damaged clutch hand. Gained another 1 cm closer to the bar in position 4.

It's very important that you can reach your levers easily, and we have to be understanding of women riders, and riders with small hands, how difficult it must be to control a bike.. imagine if you had two rolling pins on the end of your bars and your levers were 8" away... doesn't inpsire confidence aye lol !

    Recently upgraded the clutch on my Intruder 1800 to a hydraulic one.. But of course parts belonging to another bike, the angles did not match perfectly.. Even though i do have gigantic hands, the reach was a bit too far even for my taste.. Even at the 4th position.. Then I remembered this video.. The lever was a bit different, but i practically did the same mod.. And voila, problem solved.. So... Thanks ;).. Very much..

    Regarding this post on adjustable clutch i have a point to ask. When we file off the pin inside of lever. The rotor (1,2,3,4) might get stuck. Isn’t it? :) thinking it loud. Generally manufacturers dont give that much space.

      Hi Malcolm, bit late for a video, as they were already on there lol, but if you get the same ones as we have with the battery saving mode, you can wire them directly to the battery with the ring terminals supplied as if you leave them switched on after stopping the engine, they auto switch off! They have full instructions and are really easy to follow!

    Hi ya del,
    Great tip. Just a thought though, that extra travel of the level might be factory for safety reasons...pads just changed or old fluid with a few bubbles etc your thoughts sir?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pads wearing won't bring the lever any closer, the system feeds more fluid down the tubes to back up the thinning pads, and if you change your brake fluid every couple of years as designated in the service schedule then you shouldn't experience much, if any, closer level pull .. and the clutch is static in its bite point (pretty much).... but it is important to make sure you still have full disengagement of the clutch and full application of the brake with at least 10mm of lever travel to spare .. good point mate, well said. Del.

    Where's the dab of paint, nail varnish or even copper slip, on the end of the pin. It's going to rust, don't ask how I know. On the clutch side I found the cable length adjustment to be just a little more critical after the stand off pin mod, but really worth doing, especially when using the clutch in heavy traffic.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can't make her understand why it's so important to reach especially the brake lever.
    87 Honda Rebel Cmx450c. No parts available for this bike anymore. A few parts, but not the one's you need, like the speedo gear in front wheel for speedometer.
    How can I get these levers closer n still allow the clutch to work properly, without burning it up!?

I've adjusted it but now there's play in the lever. It's non adjustable as it isn't hydraulic. Can't find an adjustable one anywhere. Is there something I can do or do I have to live with it? Hi Don.... have you looked at other Suzuki bikes that have cable clutches with adjusters ..Firestorm, SV650, V-Strom, etc etc... have a look round the other models and see if there is a lever you can adapt... im sure there is one in the range... other then that ,its a new lever from the after market firms, but im sure you'll find one that fits... then you can just hit eBay and maybe get lucky..

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's not really a lot you can do if they're not adjustable in the first place other than maybe look at the stop points they pivot on and see if there's some way you can file some away so it stops closer to the bar... also, thinner grips help, the soft Renthal motocross grips are less of a handful and free up finger space for the levers...!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate...We havent just thrown money at the makeover for the Bonneville, its been the selling off of a few other bits we didnt need, and cash left over from the Harley sale..so the 'Mahogany' seat had to go to fund the new seat for Penny's Bonneville... the new one is going to be amazing, really cool and way more rare, exclusive and hard to get than the Brown Sixty8 seat.. The brown ones are hard to get and no longer available....but by comparison this new one makes them look ten-a-penny... and as a result, ill have the regular Bonneville seat from her bike as its a lot more comfortable than the Thruxton platform they use for the brown one.. just a swap around mate..

    Go Penny!
    I find it easier just using my index and middle fingers to brake. The whole 4 fingers makes braking more imprecise.
    I place my hand on the grip in such a way that the to fingers sit in the closest part of the lever to the grip. My hands are a bit larger than yours.
    The clutch is a bit heavy, riding through traffic constantly having to find the bite point gets unbearable.

      Hi Dolores, pulling like that on the clutch in traffic and enduring the pain can lead to tendonitis and then you won't be riding at all, so do be careful... makes it really uncomfortable on long trips and as such as I can two finger brake, I want a convenient full 4 fingered grip in case of emergency stops... ride safe, good to hear from you Pennyx

    Is it possible that after this adjustment the clutch will not disengage completely?

      +Vlady If you make the lever too close to the bar, then yes, you will effect the clutch action....but this bike was fine, it still had a full sweep of the lever and enough to totally dissenguage the plates....just check with your bike that you dont close it in too much..!

    Hello Del. Just broken my front brake lever on my 2007 Efi t100. The lever is exactly as the one you removed in this video. Trying to get hold of a replacement nothing on the internet looks the same.
    Can you help please. Where do I go ?
    Thanks. Neil.

    You call it Ghetto, I call it a life hack! Anyhow it's the same levers as on my bike. I'm going to do this because I just like levers close to the bar. Got a version for the clutch lever too?

      @Moonfleet41  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lewis, clutch lever should be the same... as long as it's adjustable... and make sure you champher the end of the pin and don't leave it square as it can cut into the cam in future... and also, afterwards, make sure you're still getting full dis-engagement of the clutch! Good luck, Del

      Sure thing mate...all cables can get stuck and gummed up with dust and damp....here's one we made a couple of years ago... Delboy's Garage, 'How-To' lube and free-off stuck control cables.

      One for push, one for pull... common on most bikes these days!
