    I have the 8” hi-tech flat lap and i love it. I bought extra discs in different grits. Works well with opal. Agate , petrified wood and petrified bone. Excellent product

    One machine for multiple grits and fitting in a small space looks like a great idea. Lapidary gear is mostly much more expensive than this.

      Thanks for your feedback! You're right, typically lapidary equipment is bigger and more expensive. Hi-Tech Diamond machines were designed to follow two principles; keep it portable and affordable.

    What is the difference in the slant compared to the flat, is it ergonomics and or something else? What about the water drip on the slant compared to the flat, will the slant use more water or slosh? Thank you, Chris

    • @HiTechDiamond
      @HiTechDiamond  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The biggest difference between the Slant Cabber and the All-U-Need is the ergonomics. The Slant Cabber is much easier to use in a seated position due to the angle of the lap.
      The water systems are different as well. Both units' water capacity is about 2.5 cups of water which typically lasts about 15-30 minutes depending on the flow rate you are using. The Slant Cabber has a well at the back of the unit with the tube running inside the machine and through the adjustable white hose. This is a gravity fed system. The used water drains though a longer tube to a bucket below. The cup system on the All-U-Need is a slightly simpler system with the clean water cup resting on the splash guard, and the used water collecting in the cup resting on the base of the machine. Both machines have the option of adding a Pro-Flow system which allows for more water on hand/ less refills needed. There are 2 options, either a pressure tank or submersible pump which are both great, just a difference in preference.
      The All-U-Need can also be used with our glass grinder bits. While you could also install on the Slant Cabber motor shaft and use, there is no grid on the Slant Sabber to rest the material against whereas the All-U-Need has slats on the table top which also holds a sponge to cool the grinder bit. I've attached an informative sheet on this in case it is of interest to you.

      Thanks for asking this question Christopher. I was wondering the same thing.

      @@wyomingadventures Sure thing. I bought the flat version and glad I did, as it seems easier to hold larger and heavier pieces flat down; then to hold on an angle and have to use more tension in your hands and forearm. I also had to buy the 100 diamond disk because, the 180 was not getting out the saw marks with the 180 that came with the unit. The 100 actually made a ton of scratches in some of my crystals and rocks and more of a mess; so not sure about what to do or use from here on in. A few guys on YT said they had to use the 80 disk to get out there saw marks and then up to the 180 and everything after that was fine. Not sure why the 100 made a lot of scratches in my material and then the 180 did not get all of it out. The other disks are fine, they polish fast and easy and great finish to them; but many of my pieces have dull scratch marks or saw marks in them still. Have to view some videos, ask some questions and maybe adjust my own technique. Really annoying for a machine that isnt cheap. It seems like others love it and they figured out how to use other disks to get the job done perfectly.
      I bought my machine from a site called " cutting edge supply " out of arizona and nick and his dad run the place. Nick helped me with blades and my research about this Hi Tech lap. Good kid and if you look to buy, you may want to check out their site, as they may still have it for a sale price; and if you sign up for the news letter for your email, you get 10% off your order. On a side note, I use a wet tile saw, 2.5 hp, 4000 rpm, 15 amps and 10 inch blade. The blade was good for softer materials, but I bought and so called "agate cutter " blade that I viewed on a video by BK Diamond for my agates and pet wood. They showed it cutting and agate so easily on a wet tile saw 10 in blade like mine, but a different brand. It does not cut easy for me for what ever reason and at times I have to go back and use my blade that came with my saw. My blade is 40 bucks, agate cutter on sale was $135. Hope this helps you in making choices on equipment if needed. Many of my harder rocks and crystals have waves or dips in them, because my saw/blade doesnt cut straight through, know matter how slow I go and lots of water. It just seems to stop, so I have to sort of tilt the rock up and down to get it to cut and that causes the waves that cant be polished. Real bummer and now I have to try to use my dremel to get the surface flat or send them to a professional to fix. Defeats the hole purpose of buying the saw and lap. If you personal know how I could fix these issues and cut better, please let me know. Thank you, Chris
      Ps. I bought the 8 inch lap and its can do pieces about 3.5 inches wide and 7 inches long. So the 6 inch probably loses 1-2 inches each way.

    So I just got this lap, I've had someone tell me I'm supposed to put the diamond paste on all the different colored disks too . That doesn't sound right so I thought I'd ask here !

    • @HiTechDiamond
      @HiTechDiamond  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Teresa! Congratulations on your new Slant Cabber! In regards to your question, no, you do not put diamond paste on the diamond smoothing discs. The diamond smoothing discs are already loaded with diamond grit. You should only put the diamond paste on the Tech-11 polishing pad. Please reference the instruction manual. We go into great detail on the process on pages 8 and 9.

    No water with the diamond paste?

    • @HiTechDiamond
      @HiTechDiamond  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While it isn’t necessary to use water with polishing pads, we recommend keeping the Tech-11 polishing pads and final polishing pads slightly damp when you polish. Depending on the material you are polishing, your stone can overheat, getting hot to the touch due to the friction between the stone and polishing pad. As a result of the high temperature produced by the friction, you could possibly burn your fingers or, if you’re using a dop stick, your stone could shift or fall off of the dop stick if the wax melts. If you are using water with your polishing pads, make sure it’s clean.

      This depends on experience level, but on average we'd say 4-8 minutes per pad.

      @@1222gjg1998 The Slant Cabber has the same functionalities as the CabKing however, the CabKing can do more. You can attach a trim saw attachment to turn it into an all-in-one unit and you can attach flat laps to the side shafts. Plus, it's a 6-wheel setup, so there's no need to change out the grits. We manufacture the CabKing as well as Hi-Tech Diamond machines. It's a wonderful machine and receives lots of love and positive feedback from its users.

    • @RockHoundingAdventures
      @RockHoundingAdventures 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The scratches are due to the discs being contaminated from previous grits by not washing in between the different grit discs properly.

      Keep your discs seperated at all times, enclosed in seperate zip bags. Also, work several stones at one stage at a time, to minimize switching the pads thus minimizing cross contaniments.
