I was lucky enough to see phantom at the Haymarket in London too many yrs ago, and it was a magical experience. Absolutely bloody fantastic. Since then I've gone through 4 cassettes 2 CDs and I'm on the DVDs now. Michael is brilliant. Who'd have thought 'some mother's' would start a journey to the 'Phantom'!! ❤
it's always blown me away how in the 70's he was frank spencer, with that character it was so funny and then goes on stage and sings with so much passion what an incredible singer
How did this video slip by without making its way onto TH-cam for all these years. Thanks for the great find, Goofy. Michael is such a smooth and fun character, on stage and off.
No one has ever done a better character acting job than Crawford as the Phantom. I was so shocked when I first saw an interview with him after seeing videos of him as the phantom. It doesn’t seem possible that he is so different than the character in real life, but honestly, it’s probably his inner humility that made the phantom such a complex and heart wrenching character.
As IF I could LOVE Michael any more than I already do, at 8:46, he says "the smooth way that ..." and he was about to pay himself a compliment on his own performance, but he stopped himself. I mean Sigh ... Michael MICHAEL! Also, clearly, he's attracted to Tawny, from his first visit to the show where he played out a small portion of Music of the Night, when he reached for her after Steve asked him to, to ease her "suffering." And that clearly left a mark on him. But to continue, the way he describes everything in playing Erik is just so unique and wonderful! So I say again .... SIGH. (: D
@@lordcharfield - A'course she was, to say the least. The very least! Personally, I think he banged her in his dressing room between his first interview on this show and the day they taped this one. And even if not YES Tawny, we were all quite jealous! 😭😭
@@lordcharfield - Nah. See even though we watched many Britcoms in America growing up over here, Michael's show was never in any of that lineup and found out thru all these interviews that he intended it that way on purpose, in the event, he ever made it big hear pre or post POTO and didn't wanna typecast himself. So even tho I've done my best to catch up on all that Frank Spencer goodness the last couple years, no, no beret but the black cape? Oh HELL yeah! Heck, even at his age now and as fit as he's remained, I still wouldn't kick him out of my bed. How about you? 😀
wait he has a 34 year old daugher here? When did he have her at age 10? Anyway he is spot on about teasing being sexier because it leaves women with want. There is a scene when he is singing Music of the night to Christine where his hands come up her body, her entire torso, even gracing THAT area, but without actually touching her, her body maybe a tiny millimeter away from his fingers. Sooooo sexy.
He is such a sweet and humble man, with enormous talent.

There aren't enough people like him in this old world.
This man is amazing. He learned how to walk a tightrope for Barnum, and was high up without a net. He can do most anything he sets his mind to.
I
+The exact opposite of the character he played in England - for which he was also much loved. A wonderful man.Martha Shaw

He also did his own Frank Spencer stunts and wrote them too. Remember the skating stuntwork? He is amazing in everything he does.
13:50 when he did the gesture, I moved toward him just like Tawny did and got butterflies. That's the power of Michael Crawford! ❤

"I just kept dreaming of Michael Crawford"
Oh, you and me both honey. you and me both.

Goofy, thank you very much for this amazing interview - It's a brilliant!
I got to see Michael in 2016 in The Go Between in London and he was superb. He was on stage for the entire performance - astounding!
I came to Canada 31 years ago , I was invited to The Phantom of the Opera , to tell the truth I'm found of him then since.
Michael so cute
13:53 HOLY SHIT. He turns into the Phantom!
Michael is such a pro ~ over the top Pro !!
The woman who is totally fangirling over Michael is basically me.
I was “fangirling” over her!
I kept seeing glimpses of Frank Spencer...😊
O Michael é tão fofo 😍😍
That co-host constantly looks like she’s about to swoon... and I don’t blame her.
SOME BRITISH MEN ARE SO HUMBLE
AND SWEET🥰
He is a humble man and I love him ❤️ 2:38

To be honest, Tawny looks totally mesmerised by Michael. In fact, she’s getting demonstrably hot under the collar!

@@lLadyAszneth Now that wouldn’t surprise me one bit. Now a question. If you became erm...”lucky” with Michael. Would you make him wear his beret?

His american accent was amazing in condorman
The ladies were just going off their hinges
Was this before his first or second L.A. departure (I know he came back in between the time that Robert Guillamne left and Davis Gaines took over)
+Danny Eyheralde His first departure
@@smichelle65 I bet the person who bid $27,500 for tickets to his first L.A. Last, was pissed when he came back.
Legally Mr Crawford can be held accountable for that marriage proposal.

5:04 Actually he said his oldest daughter was 24 not 34.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. He managed to recover. More than thirty years ago;
BUT WHAT ABOUT DORF??
(I'm kidding)
Who was this woman?
Tawny Godin. She was a former Miss America.
The guy host is a bit cringe
Agree. And his co host looks like she wants to jump on Michael! Both are creeps.
the presenters jacket looks it got bird shit all over it
I forgot how terrible women in the early 90’s dressed.
