  • Side by side comparison of our 2020 Toro Timecutter with 60 inch deck and Toro 24.5 hp engine, and our NEW 2024 Timecutter Max with the 54 inch deck, Kawasaki 23 hp engine, and MyRide suspension. That Myride suspension is a huge difference maker. We go over lots of comparisons between these two zero turn mowers in this video.

    Too bad you can't combine them and have the best of both. 😊 They're both really nice mowers! When you install the hour meter on the new Timecutter, that would make an interesting video. 👍🔧Thanks for sharing, Chad!

      Thanks! They are both amazing machines - and cut the lawn MUCH faster than any other mowers I've used. I have the hour meter on order.

    In the vid at 6:30 we see the mower rolling from a side view of the mower frame and of the "MyRide" chair deck... the deck is bouncing away while the mower frame is in a smoother motion. About the opposite of what I'd expected.

      It's a bit of an illusion I believe. The seat is smoothing out the bumps. And I'm wondering if the GoPro recording is making the chassis of the machine seem smooth.

    Youve got plenty of room to keep the inside tire moving instead of doing actual zero turns, better over time if you turn at same spot. Thats a sweet mower

    I can see the difference that suspension makes. Right now I just have a John Deere x370, but I’m eyeing larger mowers and zero turns. I don’t think I’d get a zero turn mower without some sort of suspension to smooth out the ride.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The suspension is amazing. I wouldn't have guessed it would make such an impressive difference.

    With the acreage you have you may need a 60" cut but after a 52-54" (give or take a few inches) you start to have issues with scalping your lawn (in spite of the anti-scalp wheels). The cut is typically best if you can get away with a 5?" deck or less. I wish I would have keep the grass cutting job had as a kid but watching grass grow wasn't easy as a young man. It turns out that other than the trimmer that was my favorite job. The think that gets me about all of this stuff (I'm not an engineer) is that Kawasaki makes some of the most powerful motorcycle engines as well as durable but the lawnmower engine that's over 650cc is only 23HP, the 999cc engine is 36HP. Now I understand that an industrial engine is meant to be durable but some of these motorcycles have engine that last for hundreds of thousands of miles. I'm sure their engineers know what they're doing but you'd think that they could make that thing sip fuel and have plenty of power in a smaller package. Just saying. That's a head scratcher for sure! I would be happy with many of these because of how nice they are so don't get me wrong but I have a small yard so... Nice video and thanks for sharing the differences (pros & cons) between them. (quiet power equals 🥰 happy customers)

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Great points about the ability of these motorcycle engines to use very little gasoline. The zero turns certainly seem to use their fair share.
      As far as the deck width - you're right that the wider decks can scalp more. BUT - the wider deck also hides the defects of the lawn better. I've mowed this lawn with a 32" deck, and even push mowing with a 22 inch mower. The results with the wider deck always look better, because it seems to blend the uneven terrain better than the smaller width deck does. Does that make sense?

    • @bradh74
      @bradh74 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @PurpleCollarLife I think so, that's also a great point because it's more uniform that way. I had to mow different at my home because of scalping. Most yards won't have that issue, the 72" would be worse if you have a bumper lawn.

    @alanreid856 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Good video. My old mid 90's toro Zmaster 222 machine has no suspension for the seat or frame. Just the slight cushion from the tires getting soft from air leaks while I mow. LOL

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I used to lower the air pressure in my riding mower tires to help with the bumps. :)
      The suspension on this new machine is very impressive. Better than I had predicted.

  • @badgerlandturf
    @badgerlandturf หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Good comparison, one thing I might have asked was what is your gallons per hour use over the same lawn? Cutting grass is probably my favorite thing to do in retirement!
    That is impressive that you started off with a pasture and turned it into that! What was you process other than mowing?

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Gallons per hour - that's a great question. I'll do an experiment in the future.
      Where I built my house was an abandoned pasture field. I started out just brush hogging it to knock it down. Then I used my old Cub Cadet 149 tractor with deck to start "mowing" it. It was VERY hard on that machine. I dulled blades constantly. I was hitting small stubble stumps, rocks, uneven ruts, etc. Eventually I started mowing it with my Ford 2N and a 5' finish mower on the 3 point. The ag tires on the tractor actually helped smooth out the lawn - almost like aerating. And the weight of the tractor helped too - almost like rolling the lawn over time. I rolled the lawn one time in 23 years. We used to have horses, and I did spread manure over the lawn a few times. I've also done some over-seeding with Penn State lawn grass seed mix. And in a few spots, I've done some light leveling with a mix of sand and top soil. But basically - it's just the result of 23 years of keeping at it, mowing - and adding milorganite, Sunday lawn, and a few years of TrueGreen here and there.

    Makes me want a new z turn just for the myride.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I honestly didn't think the MyRide would make much difference over our lawn - it's pretty rough. I figured it wouldn't be able to have enough suspension to smooth it out. But it does a great job. I'm impressed.

      Great question. The 60" machine just BARELY fits into our enclosed trailer, and can't fit between a few rows of the stones at the cemetery we mow.

    Curious, what (if anything) drove the decision to downsize the deck from 60 to 54? Is the 54 better at the cemetery?
    Also, I'm astounded to hear you've never removed the deck! I had my Timecutter deck off countless times...cleaning, blade replacement, belt service, etc. I must've been doing something wrong! 😉😎👍

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question! The 60" just barely (like 1 inch clearance on each side) fits in our enclosed 6x12 trailer. AND - you guessed it - doesn't fit through some of the rows in the cemetery.
      Perhaps ignorance is bliss - I've never cleaned the bottom of our deck. That's probably a bad admission. And I've never changed or sharpened the blades on the deck. I think it is due for a new set of blades. But I'm also very careful not to hit any rocks, stumps, or sticks.

    • @watershedoverlook
      @watershedoverlook หลายเดือนก่อน

      @PurpleCollarLife You've never changed or sharpened the blades in 5 seasons?!?!? And the cut quality is still acceptable? That is incredible!
      FWIW, I think you will find that after you've done it once, dropping the deck is pretty straightforward. On my Toro, it was about a 60 second job. 👍🙂

    You need to attach your camera to yourself or somewhere that has the same motion as yourself. It appears that you are bouncing all over the place when in actuality your not. Hope you understand w(at I’m saying.

      I actually tried the chest-mount first. But it made the ride seem even more bumpy - because the terrain was moving around constantly. :) I’ll keep testing different ways to try to convey how smooth the ride is compared to the terrain.

    Absolute biggest piles of trash on the market...drive pulley came apart at 6 months....blades dull after second mowing...fuel gauge quit working and had to replace solenoid at 6 months....forgot to mention right off the bat the rear tire decided to have a warp in it ....buy something else ...they cut like crap with new blades on them also...came cutting like crap....dont take my word for it...buy one and find out for yourself

      Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. It sounds like you’ve had a bad time with your Toro. That has not been our experience. In our 5th summer now, the Toro Timecutter still works great. I’ve never replaced the blades and they still cut nicely. But I’m also very careful where I cut. I only cut grass - not thick brush - and I pick up sticks in my way, and avoid gravel and dirt. The only thing I’ve done is regular oil changes, replace the battery, and general upkeep.
