      Norm Macdonald’s Moth Joke clip from the Tonight Show was published on TH-cam shortly after his passing, but the video was subsequently removed after about a year. The title of the program was not mentioned in the video description at all, just saying that it was aired in August 2009.
      Hope this one stays up. It’s a brilliant bit that made excellent use of Conan’s visits to different affiliates around the country in the lead up to his premiere in June 2009.

      They chose a song by Cheap Trick in part because that would be a "private joke" for the Late Night with Conan O'Brien fans, because over the years Conan used Cheap Trick as the butt of jokes and snarky comments. When this originally aired, I laughed out loud when I recognized one of their hit songs was playing on the bathroom radio. When Conan turned it off, I thought "A: because it's Cheap Trick; and B: that's the maximum length of a song they can play on TV without having to pay copyright fees. Just enough to make the joke. After all those jokes, digs and jabs over the years, Cheap Trick would never grant permission for Conan to play one of their songs on TV." But then the whole song starts to play in its full glory as Conan runs across the US... And I'm laughing out loud again! Kudos to Cheap Trick - they really are good sports!

    • @thebenforever
      @thebenforever 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kiwiangeldust6912 Disagree. Being the host of an established show carries a whole slew of expectations, as opposed to being allowed to have your own show where it's completely your brainchild. It was an honor to be offered the Tonight Show, but nobody can replace Conan on Conan. They'd have to cancel his show and that wouldn't make financial sense. Reinstalling Leno probably made short-term financial sense to them.

    • @kiwiangeldust6912
      @kiwiangeldust6912 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @thebenforever No. The “Tonight Show” was THE ultimate late night gig so Conan wanting to be its host made lots of sense.
      It meant more money. It meant a better time slot. It meant a larger audience. It meant more exposure. It meant more A list guests. It probably would have been Conan's last job until he decided to retire.
      It's not like having the Tonight Show long-term would have kept him from passing the reins and turning to his podcast.
      There's a parallel universe out there where he has a nice 15-year run leaving his mark on the Tonight Show legacy and then has the same realization that the format is done and moves to podcasting.
