Its a perfect mix of drama thriller in my opinion. The thing is the drama overshadows the thriller aspect at some points. The impenetrable jail line was so blunt that it cant be anything but a self aware nod. This film was actually great and your review feels like the reviews for the batman (2022).
JIGRA - My Top 10 Reasons I Didn’t Like It 1. Too Slow: The movie is slow, and the main story-that Alia will save her brother no matter what-is clear within the first 30 minutes. 2. No Emotional Connection: There’s no real emotional connection between the characters. The father’s death felt random, and we don’t know if she had a troubled childhood. 3. Weak Sibling Bond: The relationship between Alia and her brother isn’t well-developed. They just play basketball together. In comparison, Ranbir’s love for his sisters is much clearer in Animal. 4. Confusing Start: Alia works for the family as a maid, but it’s unclear why. The opening party scene makes no sense, and suddenly she’s flying in a private jet to another country. If the family doesn’t care about her, why does she get 2 crores and a private jet? 5. Weak Supporting Cast: The supporting cast, including the jailer and Manoj Bawa, was not impressive. Manoj’s character, who is supposed to be a retired gangster, felt more like a joke. A stronger actor like Vijay Raaz was needed. 6. Fictitious Country: The foreign country shown didn’t feel real. It’s confusing if they meant it to be Singapore, but there were random dragon pictures, and in the end, Malaysian police show up. That was annoying. 7. Poor Jail Scenes: The friendship between the inmates wasn’t well-developed. Suddenly, there’s a police officer in love with an inmate, was it required? 8. Unnecessary Remix: The remix of the famous Dev Anand/Zeenat song was added but it doesn’t enhance the experience. 9. Alia’s Performance: I find Alia’s performance average. With a weak screenplay, she couldn’t carry the movie on her own. 10. Unrealistic Climax: The climax felt unrealistic. Alia didn’t do any action scenes like Katrina or Deepika. She still seems too young for such roles.
@@ruzbe72 1. ‘The movie is slow’ and ‘the main story is clear within the first 30 minutes’ - both the sentences together doesn’t make make any sense!! And also if the whole movie is about ‘Jail Break’, then the main motive of the movie needs to be set up real fast, as one cannot waste time in setting up the motive itself for half of the film!! It’s like trying to set a romantic angle in the entire first half of the movie in an ‘Action Film’!! If the film is about ‘Action Story’, then obviously, people don’t waste the entire first half in setting up the love story!! Similarly, if the movie is about ‘Jail Break’, then there’s no point in wasting time on as to why Bro-Sis bond is so strong!! It’s Bro-Sis bond, do you really need an explanation on why they love eachother so much??!! That’s stupid!! 2. Obviously, both had a troubled childhood!! Their father committing suicide in front of their eyes would obviously be traumatic!! She working as a manager in her own relatives’ house is also obviously, quite insulting and humiliating to live with!! You don’t have to see anything more traumatic than that to know how traumatic a 10 year old child’s past would be!! And not everything needs to be revealed!! Even in ‘Pink’ movie, it was never revealed as to why ‘Amitabh Bachchan’s’ character was the way that he was or what happened to his wife, why did she die??!! In the climax when ‘Amitabh Bachchan’ says the dialogue ‘Chahe woh aapki girlfriend ho, friend ho, koi parichith ho, koi sex worker ho, yaa phir aapki apni wife hee kyon na ho, No means No’!! In that particular dialogue, if you observe carefully, when he says ‘WIFE’, his voice shivers!! A minute yet powerful detail!! What does that mean??!! Did he also try to physically abuse his wife inspite of her saying ‘NO’, taking for granted that it’s just his wife so, how bad or wrong could it be??!! Is that the reason because of which she became like that and with that trauma, guilt and realisation ‘Amitabh Bachchan’ became the silent and creepy man??!! Is that why he tried to help those girls thinking that it would be his ‘Praischith’??!! It was never revealed!! People kept guessing!! And that was the beauty!! Because the movie was not about his past, it was about how he saves those girls from punishment!! Similarly, in this movie, though they established a little bit of their past traumas but at the end, the film is not about their past, it’s about how a sister can go to any lengths to save her brother!! This movie is from the POV of ‘Sathya’ and ‘Ankur’ who do not have any idea why their father committed suicide!! Their father didn’t tell them nor did he leave any kind of note!! They, forever will never get to know why. Then how will we get to know why if we are watching the film from their POV??!! I think it was a very smart move to not reveal the father’s back story!! 3. You don’t always need a 1.5 hours of the film to establish a bond!! Sometimes it’s just the feels and emotions through eyes and actions which are needed to see the emotional bond between two people!! It’s not just about Basketball but the fact that she is completely ‘Robotic’ in nature whenever she’s with anyone in the world except for her brother!! She never, even for a slightest moment, smiles in front of the world but when she’s with her brother playing, she literally starts to laugh!! That’s the impact of her brother on such a stone-faced, cold- hearted and robotic natured girl that she within seconds melts and laughs out in front of her brother!! She doesn’t give two hoots about anyone in the world, starts slapping people who do not listen to her, sets fire and burns down her uncle’s office because he didn’t care to release her brother from the prison!! Such an egotistically maniac of a person keeps apologising to her brother again and again just in a basketball game which proves she is not at all egotistical when it comes to her brother!! Even after getting to know that her brother got arrested in a foreign country, she stands there with her hands folded with zero expressions as if she’s not a human but a stone statue but the moment she picks the call from her brother, she starts showing expressions of panic, anxiety, tension and love, which again proves that she is expressive only in front of her brother!! These minute details are more than enough to establish what her brother means to her and the strength of their bond!! You don’t really need a 1.5 hours of explanation to establish her love for him!! It’s her eyes, expressions and body language!! (And you say her performance is weak 🤦♀️ Just look at the way she changes her expressions in seconds like a chameleon!!) 4. The start is not at all confusing!! It is very well established how everyone in their friends and relatives circle kept praising that uncle as to how great he is to provide shelter to two orphans in his house and how proudly he kept boasting himself about it whereas in reality, he just treats them like servants!! He makes her do all his jobs from serving drinks to hiding his dirty secrets but in front of the world makes it look like he treats them like his own kids (which is why after clearing out his son’s affair and the pregnancy fiasco, he orders her to change into good clothes, indicating that though she is a servant but in front of the world expects her to be dressed enough to look like she is happy and part of the family!!) The family definitely doesn’t care about them!! Though he tried to get both the boys released but since, the lawyer said only one boy can be released, he obviously chose his own son as he doesn’t care about ‘Ankur’!! But he cannot even let ‘Ankur’ rot there, as firstly, everyone thinks he is a great uncle and loves them as his own. So, if he doesn’t let ‘Satya’ get him out, it’s dangerous to his ‘Great Uncle’ image!! And secondly, don’t forget, ‘Satya’ does all his dirty work!! She knows every single dirty detail of his personal and professional life as he makes her clean up all his and his family’s dirty laundry!! If he doesn’t give ‘Satya’ what she asks for (cash and private jet) he’ll be finished within seconds!! This is the power of intelligent movies, not everything is spoon fed!! Read between the lines and understand the hints!! 5. Weak supporting cast??!! 😂 It’s only the performances of Alia Bhatt, jailer and Manoj Pawa that people are unanimously praising!! Even the people who did not like the movie are saying that the only saving grace in this movie is the performances from these 3 actors!! So, I really don’t know what the hell you are talking about!! 6. Fictitious Country is frankly not as big a problem as you make it sound!! It’s a petty issue!! 7. Poor jail scenes and the unnecessary love angle is something that I agree with though I liked ‘Vedang Raina’ performance in the prison scenes!! But I feel the friendship was very much established well!! At first, the guy’s ego gets hurt when ‘Ankur’ doesn’t respond so, he starts a feud but seeing ‘Ankur’ help him out inspite of his behaviour, he realises his mistake and apologises!! But when he sees that ‘Ankur’ got punished because of his mistake, he becomes really guilty and befriends him and joins him in his escape plan!! I think it’s a pretty decently established relation between the inmates!! What more and how much more time do you want to get wasted on the inmates when the story revolves around ‘Satya’??!! 8. ‘Alia Bhatt’ performance is average??!! 🙄 Well, I can’t say anything about it if you feel that way!! This, in my opinion is her career’s best performance!! 9. Climax is definitely unrealistic, I agree with that!! But this is not an ‘Action’ movie, this is ‘Jail Break’ movie!! And jail breaks doesn’t always need to be filled with ‘Action’!! It’s about her strategies, planning, her mental strength, her craziness, crankiness and her stubbornness which made her go for it!! It’s about her ‘Personality’, not ‘Action’!! She’s not a ‘Super Hero’ or a ‘Super SHEro’!! She’s just a really really really crazy sister who even gets ready to slit her wrist if that means she could meet her brother!!
😂 But dude even this guy couldn’t help himself from praising ‘Alia Bhatt’!! The only genuine review out there. I still don’t know how I survived that second half in the theatre. Textbook definition of falling off a cliff after a great set up in the first half.
Maybe the first time I didn’t feel the same way BR did. Absolutely loved the movie - great pace, emotionally pitch perfect and the action sequences were just so fun and realistic
The plot of jigra and execution is very good, but the editing let the film down...film loses it pacing in the 2nd part of the first half...Else it's a good film, but yeah, the film loses its tempo
I think alia’s character is not well written.coz vasan Bala imagined radhika madan as badass Satya’s role then he tweaked his story to suit alia’s personality.Karan johar should stop sending every script to Alia.

Great tight on point review. Amazing. And there were no spoilers 💕. I absolutely loved the teaser, way more than the trailer & movie. I am sure Vasan's next will be awesome. I wish 'meri behna hai would have been played in the climax only time one got emo & connected'
The difference between a critical review and PR play is demonstrated this review. As always this guy is a professional who has a youtube channel. Not a youtuber who is looking for likes
Alia Bhatt's performance was so bad. It was either "dekho mai acting kar rahi hu" or "mai bachchan hu" which seemed clever due to her diminutive size in Gangubai, but here it's just boring and senseless.
Is there a rule stating that films should conform to a genre? Is breaking genre expectations a sin? Do films have rules? Why do people follow these mindless, priestly class film critics who have absolutely no clue what they're talking about?
how can views for one movie, does the movie change if you watch on Netflix or Print so please think before commenting. Secondly If you or anyone is willing to pay me I’m more than happy. However I will be honest with my views. I DIDNT LIKE THE MOVIE JIGRA.
Had huge expectations from Vasan Bala. Especially after Monica Oh my Darling. But execution was average film did not work at all. Way over the top. 🎬🎥🤘🏻💯🎞
Don't be too harsh Baddy. Just like Alia's character, Vasan Bala too has no rules. He is like LJP. Don't tag his movies with template drama, thriller kind of genres. The movie will become a cult classic, no matter what the box office or archaic reviews reveal.
Its one thing to have opinions but why is it ALWAYSSS a good review is seen as PR nd a not so good review is ALWAYSSS considered honest? I mean can it NEVER be possible anymore that a good review can happen without PR?

(And you say her performance is weak 🤦♀️ Just look at the way she changes her expressions in seconds like a chameleon!!)
Superb analysis, I agree with you on each point 😊@@sukruthisreekaram4415

Maybe the first time I didn’t feel the same way BR did. Absolutely loved the movie - great pace, emotionally pitch perfect and the action sequences were just so fun and realistic
I actually like the movie and all the beats. I was hooked through and through.
Honest review❤
The plot of jigra and execution is very good, but the editing let the film down...film loses it pacing in the 2nd part of the first half...Else it's a good film, but yeah, the film loses its tempo
Well put, exactly what I felt when I watched the movie.

It was a good movie but Monica Oh My Darling is still his best
Amazing making and filming, but more work needed at script level to make the story more connecting
Is there a rule stating that films should conform to a genre? Is breaking genre expectations a sin? Do films have rules? Why do people follow these mindless, priestly class film critics who have absolutely no clue what they're talking about?

Don't be too harsh Baddy. Just like Alia's character, Vasan Bala too has no rules. He is like LJP. Don't tag his movies with template drama, thriller kind of genres.
