I adore dogfighting the in the mig 19s. The most intense dogfight I've ever had was vs an f8. I miss actual jet dogfights, I would ditch the missile meta in seconds
Eventually you'll start keeping an eye on your Mach number. The wings rip when you pull 10 Gs at Mach .8 or higher. Below 560 mph IAS you can't pull 10 Gs long enough to rip. Also, at high altitude you can turn more aggressively because the air is thinner.

I think i heard somewhere that aim 9D are for longrange snipes, thats why they are funky bcs they overlead. Try using them at 2,5-3km it will maybe be better
For those seeing this in the future: The F8U and the 9Ds are absolutely disgusting at boom & zooming from the stratosphere. Fly up to like 30,000ft (9000m), find someone trundling along below 10,000ft (3000m), dive on them such that you're coming in directly above/sightly behind them, fire your 9D on them from 3.5 miles (~5Km), and gently pull back up all the way to the stratosphere. They almost never see you coming, and by the time the missile hits them you're already back at altitude. The 9Ds really shine when they have the combined force of being launched at Mach 1+, low atmospheric resistance, and the full force of gravity pulling them towards their target.
You should do a new video on this one. The AIM-9D is a totally different beast now. Officially the max G went from 16 to 18, and the 4 G launch limit was removed. Intended or not the failure rate also went down. Because of.the improved range of the D it can be considered stronger than the J in some cases.
The Aim-9D's don't seem to track too well because they're just going too fast and hit that 16G tolerance very easily. These missiles are best used from 3.5k+ in most scenarios. My strategy for the F8 is to climb to high altitude at the very start of the match through one means or the other, and look for snipe shots on strait flying targets. If I'm pointing down doing mach-1, I feel comfortable launching at a supersonic target 4.2km away because these missiles have so much bloody range. Situationally the best IR's in the game along with the G's

@@melo3814 I see, the landing gear is too short and even though Gaijin strengthened them a few updates ago, it still doesn't have any shock absorption mechanic to it, feels like you need to come in hot just enough to catch the wire and scrape your tire against the deck so you don't lose the gear... ...oh yeah, that would result in me clipping through the flight deck or outright crashing my nose thanks to the way the arrestor cables work in game. It's insanity.

Aim9d has got less powerful engine, but the burn time is much longer and it increases the range of the missile. I suppose you can use the missile up to 4km from the rear.
"Last gunfighter" dont mean that guns were designed to be used as "main" armament. At that time, guns were removed from planes such F-4C and F-101/102/106 and F8U was considered the last plane with guns INTEGRATED into the airframe Like F8U pilots claimed during interviews, they mainly used Sidewinders and they just knew they could use guns at some point -->Go watch the "fighter pilot podcast" over the F8U !

I wish WT would overhaul the performance scaling of jets at high tier. Most planes in game can pull insane unrealistic Gs without taking damage. It would be cool of we had limiters in place that would limit mouse aim and keyboard control to pulling around 7g, with a disable limiter button for pulling hard. Then you would be able to attempt to make use of extra flight performance the plane has at the risk of ripping at realistic Gs. I feel like this would put more of an emphasis on rate fighting at lower speeds and make merges with other planes more interesting.
Yeah the crusader is one of my favorite cold war era planes. It's sad that it struggles with weak wing disease. Hopefully it gets fixed in the next patch. Also nice vid spit! Keep up the content, really enjoyed it
If you play it like how it was IRL, a high altitude fleet defense fighter, it is amazing. I try to only dogfight above like 15k feet. Anything lower I BnZ. Above 15k feet I can turn at any speed without ripping
Play it like an agile EEL ! High, fast, dunk AIM-9D from top Avoid any risks of wing rips at low alts, stays more agile than any MiG or EEL above 8000m Use the 9D like 530E ! Want to dogfight on the deck ? Use combat flaps at all time ! They reduce your speed (kinda slows you) and you'll always remain out of the "danger zone" of overspeed+wing overload = wingrip You can "split" guns into two groups and fire left and right sides separatly, will save you lot of ammo and will allow you longer bursts and thus, better chances to hit !

This plane is 10.3 now. I haven't used aim9d yet but I do like the aim9g on the harrier. Hard to say which I would prefer more, aim9g or aim9j. The aim9g has such a huge lock window so you can lock then lead the missile way in front of a plane which is really useful sometimes in dogfights.

Ive had much more success launching them at 3-4km than closer range, they seem to have a much longer burn time than other missiles.
aim 9D is a long burn time, long range missile that compresses too much while it burns and while its fast. the biggest problem of the missile though is that it has a very narrow seeker head that tends to lose track of the target very easily if you shoot it from too close or at a high angle like in 3:20. the missile had to lead so much that the seeker lost track of the target
So after having played about 100 games and spading the crusader, I actually LOVE this bird, I climb to space, and basically use it to pick off targets of opportunity from what can only be described as extreme range, top rear 3/4 shots they track awesome but only if you shoot from 3klicks out
I actually made a 1v1 in custom battle with a friend of mine. I was in an almost stock f8u VS a spades mirage 3, no missiles and I actually managed to win 2 time out of 3 (my friend has a lot more experience in than me in the game and the mirage is its most played plane). The biggest strength of the Crusader is its vertical capabilities. It retain energy in the vertical like no one else it retain energy in a turn pretty well so VS a mig or a mirage you actually stand a chance. I love this plane.

Good tactic for an f8u when playing with friends get a friend to fly 2 to 3 km away from you use the f8u to make an enemy to panic and since the enemy is focused on you have your friend sweep in and kill them

"King of 10.0" I did maybe 5 games before quit using it because it does so bad. Every time I turned the wings ripped lol. I hope they fix it so the grind wasn't a waste of time. Been waiting years for it, and it's a HUGE letdown.
It's actually weird asf how they don't work, and I'm 99% it's not intentional. There are 2 major recurring issues with AIM-9D/AIM-9Gs (same missile) that I have experienced as of yet: 1: The missile appears to track perfectly, and even gets within the trigger radius of the missile's proximity fuze, but it chooses not to go off. 2: The missile's computer makes it perform the most batshit crazy maneuvers to try to hit the enemy. Ex. Shooting a missile at a low-flying target, the missile flies up 1 km and then tries to "hellfire" top-down strike onto the enemy aircraft by hitting it from above. The problem with this is that the missile purposefully brings the enemy aircraft out of its lock, and sometimes problem 1 is made worse by problem 2. Now back to problem 1. This usually occurs in slightly side-on shot, which leads me to believe that when an AIM-9D has lost its IR lock, it loses its ability to detonate... for... some reason. The reason I say this is that the missile usually tends to fly straight for the last ~1/2 second from a side-aspect like it has lost its lock but still manages to fail when flying within 5 ft of the enemy aircraft. Another way to describe this is that the missile creates parabolic trajectories where none are needed. If an enemy is turning left, the missile will pull hard left and up even though it puts the target furhter into the side-aspect or even behind the missile. It's like they try way too hard to over-lead, then under-leads the target when it actually needs it. I'm thinking of compiling a video of these incidents to trying to find out what's wrong, the missile's tendencies, and possibly how to mitigate this issue. I stopped playing the F8 and Harrier a while ago because their missiles would RELIABLY miss.
I don't blame you for confusing the A7 and the F8 because I think the A7 is a F8 that had a few things changed to be better suited for the ground attack role. Please correct me if I'm wrong
I shot 4 aim9d at a bomber who space climbed. I was between 3 and 1km, mach 1+ and 40k ft. He was flying straight. All 4 went stupid. I finally got the kill with the belly pod of mighty mouses. Something is wrong with those missles.
The design of the Corsair II comes partially from the Crusader so.. But the Corsair is smaller. Quite easy to see the difference when compared but sure, they looks kinda the same.. -ish

This plane is amazing for its BR. I love using it all the time, it can actually take the fight to mirages and mig21s.
The F8u can use its belly mounted rockets as makeshift flares. It fires 2 volleys of 12. Which is enough to distract R60's and SRAAM's
With ripple fire control you can change that into launching 2 at the same time

Now back to problem 1. This usually occurs in slightly side-on shot, which leads me to believe that when an AIM-9D has lost its IR lock, it loses its ability to detonate... for... some reason. The reason I say this is that the missile usually tends to fly straight for the last ~1/2 second from a side-aspect like it has lost its lock but still manages to fail when flying within 5 ft of the enemy aircraft. Another way to describe this is that the missile creates parabolic trajectories where none are needed. If an enemy is turning left, the missile will pull hard left and up even though it puts the target furhter into the side-aspect or even behind the missile. It's like they try way too hard to over-lead, then under-leads the target when it actually needs it.
I'm thinking of compiling a video of these incidents to trying to find out what's wrong, the missile's tendencies, and possibly how to mitigate this issue. I stopped playing the F8 and Harrier a while ago because their missiles would RELIABLY miss.

I don't blame you for confusing the A7 and the F8 because I think the A7 is a F8 that had a few things changed to be better suited for the ground attack role. Please correct me if I'm wrong

I shot 4 aim9d at a bomber who space climbed. I was between 3 and 1km, mach 1+ and 40k ft. He was flying straight.
All 4 went stupid. I finally got the kill with the belly pod of mighty mouses. Something is wrong with those missles.

The design of the Corsair II comes partially from the Crusader so.. But the Corsair is smaller. Quite easy to see the difference when compared but sure, they looks kinda the same.. -ish
Easy way to tell them apart is the nose. The F-8 has a pointy supersonic nose while the A-7 has a round subsonic nose
When I see a GR1 I feel sorry for them, they are a free kill. The only person I can blame if I die to one is myself for doing something idiotic.

Missiles have been a bit wonky lately, locking onto the ground or invisible ‘hot spots’ mid air rather than jet exhaust.

I’ve also noticed that the aim9ds are... strange. Sometimes it seems like it’s right on and should explode but it just passes by and goes on with it’s day.
I fucking hated using this plane. I don't think it was terrible, it just felt like a chore to play.
