Sam Witwer (Being Human, Star Wars) joins us this week and we get deep. He opens up about reassessing his life and how people’s impression of him being a screw up molded his self image for years. Sam talks about how this industry encourages people to hide vulnerability and put up a front; and how some of the false fame that can come as a side effect of this can be harmful to your mental health. Whole lot of real life talk in this episode, but we also get into Sam’s love for (and career with) the Star Wars franchise, how some of the SiFi issues resolved on Being Human, and his experience in Season 8 of Smallville.

I love Sam Witwer. Years ago when a guy got too clingy on an elevator Sam stepped in. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for him.
These guys are just really cool down to earth guys. It's great to see them being so honest in an industry that's built on being so fake.
How do you know they're not acting right now? If they are telling the truth then it's because they aren't paid to care.

Have you never played Force Unleashed?
Ive not had ambitions but Ive had thoughts of wanting to create stories. But felt like my mental health would hold me back. That advice of not expecting becoming big to make you happy is what I needed to hear right now.
Super nerdy, but play D&D and read a lot of books. I run a D&D game with friends and creating a story for people that actually appreciate the time you’ve spend writing is really fun. I do it for fun and am writing on the side because I enjoy it.
Sam was excellent in Days Gone. Deserves a sequel.

There was one planned but sadly it was scrapped.
I loved that game overall but a big reason was him. He acted the shit out of that game. Like every line had real weight and emotion to it.

Carrie Fischer talked about watching her parents fade from the spotlight and how it effected them.. and her. She wanted to avoid living in the spotlight because of that..
On the flip side of this equation about living in and out of the spotlight; Vincent Price's character was naturally inclined to be the spotlight itself. He had a healthy sense of himself from the first day he stepped onto a stage

Saw Witwer for the first time in that movie the Mist (Great movie!), he's was great in the video games as well. Seems like a cool dude.
... I've been saying this for years.. life is 3 acts. You are born.. age 0 to 25 is the first act.. age 25 to 50 is the second act. Now I'm in my third act.. age 50 to death. Most people make it to their late 70s or so. Make that last act the best one. You've learned a lot by then and know how to make it count.

I like that they're down to earth.....unlike a lot of Hollywood people that have to make some stupid political statement, whilst being completely out of touch with reality.
I believe that is the major question that most people deal with "What do I really want?!" As we go through life, we find the things of our youth are not the goals, of our maturity.

They are. For those nominated, the campaigning that goes on behind the scenes is purely about recognition for future roles and bigger paychecks.

What do you want? It's a good question, because it really depends where are you in your life. Not many people can answer that questions and even fewer who can do it when they are young and then follow it until the end. It's not easy and it might change as you grow older or it might not. But you should keep asking yourself that as often as necessary whenever you feel astray.
I came here a while back out of curiosity "what that that bold guy from Smallville has to say" and I stayed for the honest conversation with interesting and vulnerable people, who just happened to be well known actors.
They really need to make Days Gone 2

I just played days gone and it was absolutely phenomenal. Witwer's performance was outstanding as usual. Really made me feel for Deacon St. John. Love this guy. Need way more of him.

@@One21Jiggawatts yeah. Before that he was the happy-go-lucky guy who flew around with Sharon and found water and planets and stuff. Plus he stood up for Chief when he was being investigated by the Master of Arms.
