The hibiscus flowers arrived in Mexico in colonial times from Asia and have become deeply integrated into Mexican cuisine. Often used to prepare agua de jamaica. Hey Irina, happy holidays. All the best for the coming year, I learned so much from you, I am from Portland in Jamaica 🇯🇲 and I didn't know of this knowledge. Keep up the great work.
Well done! Christmas is a conflation of many cultures and ideas over the centuries. It also includes our African ancestors' solstice festivals (like goru in Mali)--many of which are usurped by or lost to colonialism and imperialism. Thanks for sharing that fact about Carol of the Bells/Shchedryk!
I would add that there is a difference between how folks in the rural area celebrate Christmas to those in the urban areas. As well as those from different economic strata. In the rural area. A goat is normally killed and the meat shared amongst family members and folks from the community. I was traumatized by the killing of one of my goats. I became vegetarian then vegan. I had sardines for Christmas dinner that year. The goat is normally killed on Christmas Eve during or after day before Christmas so that they can make manish water and drink whilst cleaning. My grandmother used to whitewash everything. Lol. I don’t know if it’s because it makes everything looks like snow or because it was a more affordable way to paint items around the yard. Also, a common fowl would be killed and enjoyed on Christmas day. The meat is a little bit tough but enjoyable for some. Thank you for highlighting our culture. You are appreciloved. ❤️
I'm so glad I was and still here for this Christmas after nine years of my last Christmas here, I had a blast and still can't find any place for Christmas like home.
🇯🇲🇯🇲 Merry Xmas Irene, husband & little-man. Evaluate, educate & emancipate misconceptions. Ending the year on a high note just as you begun Glad tidings, blessings as your aspirations peak. Hope you’ve acquired year-end whatever you seek. ======================================== Blessed are the meek for the earth they shall inherit. As a child poverty and the garrison were just part of it. Many things were lacking but Christmas was more for me Mom and Daddy, many thanks for the extra effort from yee. Parenting aside, this festive season of the year………… Always overwhelmed with glee, it really meant alot to me.

I have never seen Mac and Cheese when I was a child in Jamaica. Candied yams, you are telling tales. LOL
Candied what? Potato salad, baked Mac and cheese, tossed salad.
Merry Christmas Irena, thank you for all your Hard work and lovely & informative videos.... it was truly a great gift when you moved here😊

Irie Irena, you honor Jamaica with love and great talent. You are a beautiful citizen of the earth and of people and Jamaica is truly blessed to have you, as one. Out of many.❤🎉
Hey Irina, happy holidays. All the best for the coming year, I learned so much from you, I am from Portland in Jamaica 🇯🇲 and I didn't know of this knowledge. Keep up the great work.
The spiked eggnog is called Ponche de Creme in Trinidad.
My mother used to make both the cake and the plum pudding. The plum pudding is steamed while the cake is baked.
Merry Christmas every one.
Merry Christmas to you!
Merry Christmas Irina, i learned so much with your video, thank you! Im hoping to be in Jamaica during a Christmas season in the future❤❤
You know much more than born Jamaicans and your presentation is tight on point and accurate.
Thanks for sharing,
Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 and a happy New Year 🍾
ANOTHER GREAT JOB!!!!...IRIE 👍 👌 👏 MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR 😀..
Thank you so much for sharing! There is indeed a difference between rural/urban celebration and income of a family. I appreciate the input! 🙏
@ you’re welcome. Thank you for all that you do. I love how invested you are as well and the emotional labour that’s probably involved.
Bless up.
I'm so glad I was and still here for this Christmas after nine years of my last Christmas here, I had a blast and still can't find any place for Christmas like home.
Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year to you Irena and Family🎄♥️
Merry Christmas!!!!

Hope you’ve acquired year-end whatever you seek.

Blessed are the meek for the earth they shall inherit.
As a child poverty and the garrison were just part of it.
Many things were lacking but Christmas was more for me
Mom and Daddy, many thanks for the extra effort from yee.
Parenting aside, this festive season of the year…………
Always overwhelmed with glee, it really meant alot to me.
