I would agree with the other commenter that you should not clip into the lifelines. First, they and the stanchions are collectively not really strong enough to resist the force of you getting flung around. I would avoid hanging on to them for any reason and would always want to have a hand towards the center of the boat. They really are a last line of defense or maybe just a balance a bit.
Assuming you did clip into a lifeline, there's a good chance that if you were pushed overboard that you could be dragged. A center jack line or a pad eye is the way to go when you are clipping in somewhere.

Can someone provide clarification on 1:15? You can skipper your own vessel above 35ft according to what authority? The USCG? Insurance companies? Yacht lender? Or just as far as ASA is concerned? If you paid cash for your 40ft boat then does anyone require ASA in order for you to sail it?

You are correct, it's just as far as the Asa is concerned, you technically need nothing other than insurance

These are fantastic! They will be easier the more I watch, yet for the first view it may be helpful to circle or highlight the letter you are asking about? Since the letters are all over the place, there were a couple I couldn’t find before you moved to the description 🤪 the timing was great for my attention, but a visual que may allow for more time to think about the name 🤷‍♂️ thank you again! This is a perfect learning format for me 😸

never ever clip to the the safety wires, use jack lines. The gunwhale stanchions are not strong enough to hold you they just pull out of the deck. Jacklines will work.

I prefer clipping to the end of a free swinging boom, makes things more exciting.

jacklines are great, as long as they themselves are properly constructed and attached to solid points with good backing plates. Ive seen people attach them to the bow and stern pulpit, which is basically the same thing as clipping on to the lifelines.

I have been toying with the idea of designing a sailboat for the 22nd Century. There would be a rotary mast. No rudder or keel. No openings on deck that would not close almost seamlessly. Probably 30 to 50 feet WLL. Not designed to cruise above 90% of hull speed or about 9 knots for the 50 foot design... Thinking and dreaming.
