By the way for more context, The Daleks are based on the nazis and most of the people making the show were veterans. So when they pictured the gun and the exterminate it was like a war flash back
I think the guys should be told (or maybe they'll work it out in season 8 Listen) that the Doctor is a *Gallifreyan* with the *Rank* of Time Lord. Only those who pass the academy were given regeneration, so I always thought Susan could never regenerate since she was merely a Gallifreyan?
Neither the Doctor nor Susan were 'Gallifreyans' when the first doctor era was aired, the Time Lords aren't mentioned until Troughton's last episode and Gallifrey not until Pertwee's last season. Considering how inconsistent the show is with all of it's canon (I should clarify I don't think this is a flaw particularly) I'm not sure it would be helpful to start imposing all this lore on them just to make them confused later.
Not true. Passing the Academy isn't what gives regenerations. It does grant the Time Lord rank. But there is also a Time Lord species (Gallifreyans with triple helix DNA). The species of Time Lords are the ones with regenerations. 2 examples; Susan isn't a Time Lord in species (but is in rank) and she can't regenerate. Rassilon is a Time Lord in species (not in rank as the Academy was founded after his death so he clearly never graduated) and he can regenerate.
Travis Poirier yes I know “passing the academy” doesn’t directly give them regenerations, I always thought it was bestowed by rassilon upon those who passed, since wasn’t he the one who discovered/invented regeneration?
@@ProEllusionist Rassilon was dead during the majority of the Academy's existence so it'd be impossible for him to give regenerations. Rassilon was dead and only came back during the Eighth Doctor's era (other than the hologram of Rassilon in The Five Doctors). In truth, Rassilon genetically altered some Gallifreyans which gave them regenerations, a longer lifespan, etc. But he never changed all of them. The Academy was founded long after his death and had the six chapters all made in honour of the six founders of Time Lord society. The Prydonian Chapter was the one made in honour of Rassilon.

Good job guys! History and art note: When Sydney was reading about Daleks, the gun being fired was an old German Luger. This is important because WWII had finished about 17 prior and the Daleks were a metaphor for the Nazis. I know that was the writer's intention of the Daleks as I was lucky enough to meet Terry Nation at a convention in the early '80s (yes, I am that old )
The actors who played Ian and Susan the first Doctor's companions had cameos as well. Think there were a couple more hidden in there but those were the two I remember for sure.
When Matt Smith appeared at the end, that's when I started sobbing. It was the combination of that ending and what that meant along with knowing that he was leaving, I couldn't hold back the tears.
I hadn't seen this in so long so I genuinely forgot about the Matt smith scene and found myself tearing up along with Eric. So glad you guys did this one!!!

The story with Susan and David is "The Dalek Invasion Of Earth", the second story in the second series. Sacha Dhawan who played Warris Hussain also played The Master in the latest series of Doctor Who.
Crying laughing at the idea of daleks being like U WOT M8 I love David Bradley and as Eric said he's usually portraying grouchy old men... but fuck when he's vulnerable he breaks my heart. Just like his character in Broadchurch. He's so underrated. Comedy (Hot Fuzz), Villain (GoT)... vulnerable old man. The Matt Smith moment is so classic. I remember going through different emotions in a few seconds. Surprise, amusement, confusion, sadness, happiness. I feel like that bit is William Hartnell imagining how his legacy will continue on for decades. He's passing on the baton every actor who plays the Doctor is going to have to go through that experience every day.
Susan for the most part after the Doctor left her, Lived a Normal Life. She got Married,Had Kids, Grandkids she isnt really seen or heard till some audio/Book story with the 8th Doctor.
The attendent at BBC Centre telling them off for parking badly is William Russell who played Ian Chesterton. Carol Ann Ford (Susan) made a cameo appearance as the mother Joyce rounding her children up. Several actors and actressess from throughout Doctor Who history appear in cameos in the party scene.
I ADORE the symbolism of Hartnell seeing Matt, it obviously didn’t happen but it’s more symbolic than anything, it shows that if it had been possible that I think William would’ve been very proud and happy that the legacy HE began continues on to this day
There are a couple of cameos. Carole Ann Ford, who played Susan, plays a mother in one brief shot and the comedy security guard is William Russell, who played Ian. Legend has it that they had to lie about his cameo because they'd never have got insurance for him otherwise, because he's in his 90s.

The original footage has been lost, but with when the First Doctor regenerated, the TARDIS controls moved on their own. I have heard that they had Matt Smith move those same controls ^_^
The moment Matt Smith showed up, was a visualisation of a Hartnell Quote. When they told him he would be replaced, he said something like "With the right concept, this show is still running in 40years" He knew :) Thanks Mr Hartnell for nailing the Part.
It's called a Docudrama. Doctor Who aired at the same time as the JFK Assassination which resulted Verity Lambert pushing Sydney Newman to re air the show a week later. Sydney came up with the idea of regeneration because the show was doing so well but William Hartnell couldn't remember his lines anymore. Doctor Who was set up to fail from the beginning but ended up being BBC's biggest show. Doctor Who also originally was supposed to be an educational show that taught kids about historic events, that's why Sydney said no robots or bug eyed monsters. Susan continues to travel with the Doctor and her two teachers until the 1964 serial, The Dalek Invasion of Earth. During the events of that story, Susan falls in love with David Campbell (Peter Fraser), a young freedom fighter in the 22nd century. However, Susan feels that she has to stay with and take care of her grandfather. The Doctor, realising that Susan is now a grown woman and deserves a future away from him, locks her out of the TARDIS and leaves after a tearful farewell.
It was actually innes lloyd who came up with the idea of regeneration, after a failed attempt by John wiles to replace hartnell (without explanation) in the celestial toymaker

it's not on the schedule but i really hope they will so we should all shout about it in the hopes they see it and watch it
@@attckonutube on the discord i believe
domino2097 I presume the schedule includes Night of the Doctor and The Last Day?
@@attckonutube docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GkY-gnWCo-H10nIoeQeEdsawDdaeM9OOKGwwx1TDiHU/edit?usp=drivesdk
i love this so much. that ending was even better since shane guessed it earlier
What's the next episode? Night of The Doctor, right? I'm buzzing with anticipation 🤪
By the way for more context, The Daleks are based on the nazis and most of the people making the show were veterans. So when they pictured the gun and the exterminate it was like a war flash back
Mark Gatiss is also the actor who played Mycroft Holmes on "Sherlock"
I always find this special so beautiful. It’ll never get old. Plucks at the heartstrings so well.
I think the guys should be told (or maybe they'll work it out in season 8 Listen) that the Doctor is a *Gallifreyan* with the *Rank* of Time Lord. Only those who pass the academy were given regeneration, so I always thought Susan could never regenerate since she was merely a Gallifreyan?
dunno if it makes a difference, but I'm almost certain that 10 said he's "highborn Gallifreyan".
"One day... I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward with all your beliefs, and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine."
David Bradley also played the villain on the episode "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship."
Sydney Newman was a Canadian...
So, “Doctor Who” was created by one of my fellow hosers... 🇨🇦
And Terry Nation invented the Daleks...
It is true that Kennedy was shot the day before the premier was aired and the figires were low because of that and thats why the BBC wanted to stop DW! but Verity insisted that the first episode was re-aired before the second episode.
Fun fact: A friend of mine from university is actually the godson of a friend of david bradly and we were both in a documentary together, me and david bradley and when it premired I actually got a chance to meet david bradly, really is one of the sweetest people ever.
I cry every time I watch it too. It's SO beautiful.
soo will they react to the "Five-ish Doctor Reboot" at some point or not?
I bloody hope so!
@@ListerDavid Fingers Crossed
if they do it has to be after the day of the doctor
Yeah. But still it would be a fun reaction. I really hope they watch it
I’m way too hyped for you to watch the anniversary
Coming back to this reaction because they’ve made a change to the ending I would love to see the crew react to
the death on Kennedy didn't air around the time the first episode aired, It was the same day. Thank god they reaired the first episode a week later. Or else Doctor Who woulda died right then and there.
The day before. The 22nd of November was when Kennedy was shot and 23rd was when Doctor Who’s first episode was broadcast.
Don’t know if it has been pointed out since I just this reaction video. But Sacha Dhawan who plays Waris Hussein eventually becomes the Master in Jodi Whitaker’s Doctor run.
1:21 SHIT, I've watched this reaction multiple times, WHY DID THE BUFFERING GET ME??!?!?!?
Aw wow I need to rewatch this. What a gorgeous little tv film! Mark Gatiss smashes it out the park yet again! Also the guy shouting into the Daleks by Big Ben was played by Ian Hallard who is Mark Gatiss' husband 😄 and you've not seen the last of Gatiss himself in front of the camera either 😉
In regards to lost episodes, most missing episodes come from seasons 3-5. Most of the first season, including the premiere serial and the first serial with the Daleks, are preserved in the archive.
April 2019
Game of Thrones Season 8
Avengers: Endgame
The 100 Season 6 begins
Blind wave watches Day of the Doctor
This might be the best month of my life
Good job guys!
The part about the TARDIS design and the round things was great.
I love round things, what are the round things?
@@jeckjeck3119 No idea
I never saw this either can I just tell you my whole entire jaw nearly fell off when Sacha showed up!!!!!
About the JFK assassination disrupting the premier... It also delayed the opening of a movie about a sinister plot to assassinate the president, "The Manchurian Candidate"
I like how David Bradley has become the go to to play the first Doctor. He really does a good job playing the first doctor.
God-damn buffering fake-out.
Got me good
The story with Susan and David is "The Dalek Invasion Of Earth", the second story in the second series. Sacha Dhawan who played Warris Hussain also played The Master in the latest series of Doctor Who.
Crying laughing at the idea of daleks being like U WOT M8
I love David Bradley and as Eric said he's usually portraying grouchy old men... but fuck when he's vulnerable he breaks my heart.
The sound guy is played by Sasha Dewan who is the current Master
william hartnell returns as the Doctor who in 1973 for the 10th anniversary with 3 doctor's sad he Dead in 1973 ❤
Susan for the most part after the Doctor left her, Lived a Normal Life. She got Married,Had Kids, Grandkids she isnt really seen or heard till some audio/Book story with the 8th Doctor.
There were three cameo's (besides Matt Smith) from people associated with the original Who.
Hope you guys react to The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot after the 50th Anniversary
The attendent at BBC Centre telling them off for parking badly is William Russell who played Ian Chesterton. Carol Ann Ford (Susan) made a cameo appearance as the mother Joyce rounding her children up. Several actors and actressess from throughout Doctor Who history appear in cameos in the party scene.
I ADORE the symbolism of Hartnell seeing Matt, it obviously didn’t happen but it’s more symbolic than anything, it shows that if it had been possible that I think William would’ve been very proud and happy that the legacy HE began continues on to this day
It's kind of funny that I only know understood that the actor who plays the Master is actually in here
Fun fact, since Shane mentioned The Strain, the guy who played Quinlan in that show also played Thomas Hamilton (Flint's love) in Black Sails.
Thanks for letting me know this existed
10 million viewers at the time was aproximately 1/3 of the british population
There are a couple of cameos. Carole Ann Ford, who played Susan, plays a mother in one brief shot and the comedy security guard is William Russell, who played Ian. Legend has it that they had to lie about his cameo because they'd never have got insurance for him otherwise, because he's in his 90s.
Great episode. Now that's left is the night of the doctor and the day of the doctor.
Thanks for your reactions to this one - watched that very first one (twice in a week) when 14 with my brother 8 and family. How Time flies! Lots of stuff in this such as: the ominous 4 knocks on his car window.
I always come back to your reaction to this.
Had to come back to it today after finding out that the man who tells Sidney that he is only to do the 4 they have in production is Mark Eden who played Marco Polo in season 1 of Classic Who (the first of the 'missing' episodes).
The original footage has been lost, but with when the First Doctor regenerated, the TARDIS controls moved on their own. I have heard that they had Matt Smith move those same controls ^_^
One of my favorite biopics.
4:11 now we know what the master got up to in Episode 2
The actress who played Verity Lambert is more well known in the UK for a series called "Call The Midwife".
The moment Matt Smith showed up, was a visualisation of a Hartnell Quote. When they told him he would be replaced, he said something like "With the right concept, this show is still running in 40years"
He knew :)
Thanks Mr Hartnell for nailing the Part.
7:40 I'm amazed that Doctor Who fans didn't realise that the first episode was meant to be aired the day Kennedy got shot.
Please do 5ish doctors after the 50th because it’s just a delight
Yep 5ish doctors is fantastic - is some respects the best part of the 50th anniversary celebrations - Blindwave really need to react to it.
This was an amazing tribute to the creators of the show. It is due to their hard work we have it now.
Everyone's talking about how sad it is but is nobody going to mention the future master being in this!
"I don't want go"...Why are my eyes leaking ahh
So many callbacks, the police officer tapping on the car window stands out for me, he knocks four times
10 million viewers in 1963 was insanely good considering the UK population was 53 million back then
Yeah but there were also only 3 TV channels
I REALLY hope they do Five(ish) Doctors too.
The way David Bradley says “no, no” always gives me chills
Oh the tears I shed when I saw this when it aired. So brilliant this docu drama.
