I used to watch Extra Credits obsessively in like my early teens.
I unsubbed about 5 years ago when they came out against GamerGate, which kinda makes sense in retrospect but at the time it felt like a huge betrayal.
That was a good decision.
Aurora Dash I know how that feels. I was an avid and frequent watcher of “The Young Turks” for a long time years ago until they began to shift their focus towards identity politics. I used to have alot of Respect for Anna and Cenk and watch every new video they came out with, but it seems they’ve been corrupted. Sometimes people change in a major way and when they do, it’s not always a good thing!
I'm in the same boat. I abandoned them after their GamerGate statement and haven't looked back. They've only fallen further into insanity since then.
they did multiple episodes about barriers to entry in the game industry. but when the most bullshit barrier to entry of all gets exposed, nope it's good that the easiest way for someone with real passion to enter the industry is blocked off by snobby trust fund kids whose mommies and daddies can buy them an established game company and also awards and press for their crappy scam games. all the while they spit on you from the ivory tower where they all fuck each other.
I would also like it noted that choosing to defend your country is very much not the same thing as choosing to defend the politicians in power. That is why not all of the damned German soldiers were Nazis.
Well hell, in any group larger than 1, there will always be people with nuanced opinions, ideas, and motivations. Saying everyone in the nazi army was BAD just because they were german is as racist as saying everyone in the british army is bad because theyre white! or as bad as saying everyone in the Gurkha battalions are bad because theyre every color BUT white.
Plenty of people fought for the "nazis" that werent nazis, plenty of people found for germany that werent nazis, and plenty of people who WERE "nazis" helped save millions by working covertly to destroy the nazi regime, and let jews etc escape, or actively smuggled them out.
Just like there have been bad people and good people of literally every demographic, and ANY demographic, there will always be good and bad people of a specific demographic.
Also they were conscripted and not in the nazis' military division, the SS.
@@rwatertree I should also probably point out the NUMEROUS times the SS and the Heer (Army) have actually fought AGAINST one another.
Biggest and most famous example of this would be the battle of castle itter, in which German Wehrmacht soldiers allied with the US army against an SS Battalion who were occupying the prison castle itter.
There's also numerous anecdotes which hint how the "Defend the Fatherland" Wehrmacht came into conflict with the "ideologically Nazi" SS. For example, there were numerous recorded cases of them disagreeing on how to treat prisoners. One Wehrmacht colonel was asked to hand over his prisoners to the SS who told him they would execute them, the colonel, a veteran of the first world war and the 1914 Christmas truce was so pissed off with the SS that he intimidated them with force of number and then just fucking released the prisoners. And because the Waffen-SS were irregulars and operated independently of the military chain of command, he received no penalty for doing this.
There are also examples of the SS attempting scorched earth policies to an extreme level. After the final battle of Berlin, a 9th army soldier recounted seeing an SS officer leaning over the door to the basement of a bombed out house where 2 families were hiding, preparing to fire a panzerfaust into it. Said soldier immediately shot the SS officer with his sidearm and dragged the families with him to where they were evacuating across the river Elbe.
Many members of the Wehrmacht were outstanding people, who did their best to save lives when the time came.

When I was a kid, my mother would make Halloween costumes for me each year. Such costumes included: Captain Hook, Jafar, the green Power Ranger (while under Rita's spell), and Darth Maul. We worked together every day and night of October until we could finally present our latest creation to the neighborhood. My Darth Maul face paint was so well executed, my natural features so utterly transformed beyond recognition, that just turning a glare at younger children out of the side of my hood made many of them scream, cry, and run away to their parents. I didn't enjoy that part of it, even though it was a testament to mom's artistry and my performance emoting as the character. Of course the kids were fine; just a little spooked. I much preferred the ones who walked straight up to me without a shred of fear (like I would have), and celebrated their favorite movie badass magically appearing before them in the real world, if only for one magical night.
I've always loved villains because they're far more ambitious than heroes, and are actually allowed (if not required) to make catastrophic mistakes and fail in service of the story. The paradox of fully believing in the rightness of one's cause, despite it being provably destructive, is incredibly interesting to read, write, and portray. However, I have never once enjoyed so much as the *idea* of hurting, frightening, or intimidating people. Could we say the same of Extra Credits and those who share their ideology? Do they extend sympathy and understanding towards people throughout history and modernity and fiction who have chosen a wicked and destructive path? Would they try to find common ground and understand how the most noble intentions can become twisted into something truly monstrous? Would they appreciate the irony of dehumanizing their political opponents in order to decry supposed bigotry?
Or would they rather just play a rousing game of punch-a-Nazi?

As a military collector, I have cosplayed as both a Doughboy and a WW1 German soldier. The helmet and the Iron cross were not used exclusively by the Nazis. The Iron cross goes back to 1813, and the ignorance on exhibit in this video is something to behold.

Considering how many other ways there are to find your enemy in an FPS, color-coded crosshairs and marked allies being the most prevalent, finding your enemies by uniform is probably less efficient and something most people stop doing after realizing the thing in the middle turns red when you can get points, or figure out the guys without the floating symbol somewhere around his person are also gonna shoot you.

they have hit rock bottom trying to understand what games are all about rightnow or can't even understand that most people will use intact morals to experience being the bad guy, this actually makes you play out a simulation in your head where you experience the moral implications of what you are doing and as a gamer you can contemplate that. Extra Credits seems to think (just like anita), as if you will become that thing because you play a role.

Looking at the like to dislike ratio already it's leading up to an interesting video. You might ask yourself who the hell would dislike a video before it's even started... Although they could be disliking it because it hasn't started yet. Then ask yourself what kind of person likes a video before it even starts, it is possible they are happy it hasn't started yet.
