I grew up on Hank Jr. Some of his greatest hits is Country Boy Can Survive, Dinosaur, Family Tradition and one of my favorites If Heaven Ain't A Lot Like Dixie ❤....he also has one called If The South Would've Won and no it has nothing to do with slavery, I know the name is a little sketchy lol but the lyrics are good!
Yep I come from one of these towns an hour north of Pittsburgh, built on tin and steel mills, lots of history but is a shell of what it once was, no more good jobs, higher crime, and less than half the population it had just 40 years ago. Like you said, it’s a story people don’t care to hear but these were hard working people who truly helped build this country, left to the dust bin of history as everyone flocks to the big cities for what’s left.
Im from rural Alabama. I can tell you this song is 100 percent real for many families that I know. Especially when the coal mines shut down. Suicides loss of home families jobs etc.
Ey, you actually got around to doing my recommendation! It was good to hear you talking about forgotten towns and acknowledged that hank jr. Has a voice perfectly matched to the genre. Easily one of the favorites from country. Keep up the good work good sir
Remember, this song came out in 2009...when jobs were scarce and just after the housing bubble popped and so many people lost so much. I don't really listen to country music, but I remember when this song came out and thought it was spot on.
Back in 2001 I was going to surveying school in Utica NY and basically my whole class was 40 year olds who got let go from the paper mill. Trying to figure out what to do next.
I live in northern WV which is alright as of now but the farther south you go, the worse it gets, all it is, is old old company town and run down towns that only few people remain in, sad but true, the mines get shut down and the whole town is gone. Very sad.
4:35 you got that right man i live just above wv in pa in an old mining town the average salary here is like lower than 20 grand its hard man and its always been this way but no one cares, my ma makes 13 grand a year, politicians do 0 to help us. I love hank even tho im broke i put 30 bucks aside to get me a offical hank williams jr zippo lighter, he speaks truth.
Hank Jr is one of the greatest country singers of all time do you remember Monday night football he's the one who used to say let's get ready for Monday night football
Have to remember when this song was created, it was back during the financial collapse and the great recession of 08/09. A lot of people lost their jobs and a lot of businesses closed down. The dealership I work at had to cut peoples hourly wages to compensate for losses. I think what Hank is trying to explain is why did the government bail out big banks when they were the ones handing out loans left and right knowing people couldn't pay them back causing the housing bubble to pop.
I just found your channel last night. So yes, I have at this point watched many dozen videos already (and subbed! haha) 😄😄 you're always catching things i didn't notice and it seems like you know a lot about world history. i also really love your audio/mic and the way your voice sounds (is that weird? haha)
You should check out “What Am I Supposed To Do” by Whitey Morgan And The 78s. It’s a similar vibe, but Whitey Morgan is a great singer/writer and him and his band the 78s are honky tonk badasses from Flint, Michigan.
You should hear this song the Tokens The Lion Sleeps Tonight. One more Elvin Bishop I think you will really like him. Look at the song Stealing Watermelon. And Fishing
Even with the mines my home town in Kentucky was a rough ass place and after the most the mines where shut down it got 100x worse. Most the people got to the Toyota plant or out to the pipelines to weld. Anyone still in the town with a job got lucky or is retired. As much as I wish I could live out there having a steady job says other wise
Hey man, just thought of you and had to comment. Have you ever heard of In Living Colour? It was a under rated band from the the late 80's. Their siginuture song was "Cult of Personality". It might not get you that many views but the message is very relevant today. I think it would blow you away if you took time to look it up.
New to the channel been going through Lil Dicky reaction you're awesome check out Marko Penn - Dirty Work... Lil Dicky is in ot it's a song of his not a lot of people know 🔥🔥🔥
Hi, I found you in the recs and immediately reviewed a bunch of your videos. Please record your reaction to Skryptonite, e.g. Vitamin (Скриптонит - Витамин) In any case, good luck to you
A suggestion, if you're open to it: "Wildflower" by Skylark, a Canadian classic from 1973. It was a one hit wonder for them, but it helped launch the career of David Foster, one of the top record producers of the 1980s. th-cam.com/video/9MJ8flVWL1I/w-d-xo.html
The problem is they will do the jobs cheaper but then u increase the cost of living and minimum wage how can he do the job for a decent pay and survive
I recently saw Hank in concert and he is still one of the best on stage performers put there
