    Cavalry was interesting up until they decided to go subscription model.
    They were in a perfect space to go up against AE in the way that Blender and Davinci Resolve went against their competitors but then they went to a subscription model.
    WHY would anyone ditch their years of AE knowledge to go to another subscription that’s much less mature.
    If they go the Affinity/Resolve route and do a one time payment model on top of a free version they may have a future but this subscription thing is keeping them from going anywhere

      Not disagreeing with you, people LOVE the Affinity suite of products for many reasons and I wish Affinity made their own AE variant (which they said they wouldn't).

      Because AE is too slow and buggy

      @@CreativeDojo OMG if Affinity made there own version for AE it would be a dream come true. I've been a user from day one and I love their pricing model. I wish Cavalry would have taken a similar route.

    Not a tutorial today, but more of a discussion about Cavalry. What do you guys think about the app now that its been out for a bit, their pricing structure, and feature set? Drop a comment below for the TH-cam algorithm 🙏🏻

    Those complaining about the price are crazy. Considering some AE plugins like newton cost more than Cavalry, it’s a no brained for me, plus I will support the crap out of anyone competing in the After Effects space.

      Yeah AE is definitely a repo for 3rd party plugins haha. How do you like Cavalry so far?

      @@CreativeDojo I really like what they’re doing. I’m using it weekly now tied with a google sheets database to produce some long form titles. Dynamic render is awesome for that sort of stuff. There’s basic things they still need to add like luma mattes, but my God, color palettes, duplicators, behaviors, now JavaScript, there’s soooo much potential.

      I just upgraded to Affinity suite 2.0 for $99 US (267.3 XCD That covers me for the next 4-5 years or so of upgrades.
      I use Resolve Studio which costs $299 US (796.5 XCD) I'm covered for forever.
      I use Blender - Free
      Now Cavalry costs £192 a year which is $625 XCD! Call me crazy but there's no way I'm paying that every single year for one program.

    It has sparked my curiosity since I heard of its inception... but after years of After Effects not sure I can step away anytime soon... Similar to me giving up Cinema 4D for Blender... I think about it every year... Thanks for the deeper review... if i I didnt use Ae for my fulltime job I probably would try out Cavalry... Maybe Ae havnt an affordable competitor will make Adobe step up their game...

      I know what you mean, we've gotten used to the way AE works! Maybe worth trying Cavalry as an adjunct tool for smaller or personal projects. The way AE handles shape layers and text animators is just inefficient compared to the versatility of Cavalry.

      After effects is slow and arcane. Cant even play video with sound without buffering. Its slow and sucks

    I made the switch. Dumped AE (it was the last tool from Adobe that I had to hang on) after Cavalry was out of Beta version. Been using since. Really like many tools in it but there are still a lot to catchup. There are bugs and learning curve. I totally understand people are not willing to make the switch and learn something "again". I had courage in the past to do the same with the Premiere -> Resolve. That is something I am SO happy that I did in the past... kind of hoping the same from this AE -> Cavalry switch ;) Time will tell. What I am happy about is that I am not anymore in the Adobe subscription jail. And yes, I do this for living so the tools are necessary for me to make income.

      You're probably one of the few people I know that made that switch! Hope it's been smooth. I'm also looking to transition from Premiere to Resolve, or maybe even FCPX haha. How do you like Resolve?

      If you already jumped ship, you probably weren't doing any real professional work. If I jumped ship, I would have to recreate everything I did in AE because I would not be able to make any updates for clients since I would lose access to AE projects due to the communist subscription system.

      @@MAGAMAN Yeah, everyone in this industry not using Adobe softwares are not working professionally. You must be 100% correct.

    Monthly subscription?
    Fuck that. We don't need another lazy adobe development cycle.
    I wan tot buy and own the version I bought. Not be stuck paying for a subscription on something that is barely being developed anymore, just so I can use the version from 5 years ago that doesn't have all the new bugs in it.
    If adobe didn't have the subscription, I would still be using 2014 because everything since then had been buggy, slow and extremely bloated.

    • @CreativeDojo
      @CreativeDojo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would say not yet, but it's definitely an interesting app to try as it does make a lot of things way easier compared to AE (at least for motion design). Obviously will not be able to do vfx stuff as it's more geared towards graphics instead of compositing, etc.

    Why would I pay for a subscription when I could pay for Adobe if I wanted that?

    • @shin-ishikiri-no
      @shin-ishikiri-no 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, it sort of defeats the purpose of a good competition strategy. If I'm looking for an Adobe alternative due to subscription model, why would I switch to an unfamiliar software with the exact same problems?

    Very promising, but still not powerful enough.
    I'd say it's very promising, and I'd see this becoming an actually usable software (in a professional environment) in 2023 or so.
