I know it was a big effort to get into the cabin at this time of the year but oh how i loved seeing this video. And the smiles and companions always make my day as well. Thank you all for your efforts to provide great content.
Your cabin looks so welcoming after that long hike in. I love my cabin but know I couldn’t handle the those frigid temperatures. Don’t know how you guys hiked in all that way!! Thanks for bringing us along and take care.
Fantastic Martin!! You were right on the money with the Winter Trip to the cabin coming up!! I don’t know how you do it with the temperature being so low. It certainly makes for fantastic viewing. Looking forward to the rest of the trip. Kindest regards from a very warm Australia🇦🇺
Martin, I really, really enjoyed this. You sir, are indeed a true Northwoodsman. For those who have never experienced dragging sleds and packs through miles of snow, believe me, it isn't easy. You can dress for the cold as you do generate extra heat as long as you keep moving, but at some point (like -30°) it does become a little sketchy. Take care and I look forward to seeing future videos.... big salute from a Minnesotan.
Martin - you take the cake. I just love the trips you take in the winter. How do you do it? You’re strong as an ox! No wonder Vonnie doesn’t come with you. The dear girl would freeze - I freeze watching you. You boys do have fun - God bless.
Hello Martin, hope you two enjoyed your cherry 🍒 pies ! Wow, watching this sure brought on some chilly-whillies up my arms & back. You certainly brought back memories shoveling snow up against the cabin. We kid's back in the day enjoyed banking up snow against the house. It does make a world of difference. Don't over do yourselves there in the wilderness, we're not getting any younger. Take care.
Love that you had the toilet seat warming inside! My great uncle had a cabin in Wyoming at Medicine Bow National Forest…he heated with wood stoves and fireplace…he did have electricity and a two seater outhouse…He had an electrical switch inside the cabin that he could turn a light on in the outhouse and also had a space heater in that outhouse…it was always warm in it when you had to go to the bathroom!
Dedication getting to the cabin this time. Thankful you had a friend Kevin along.as you never know in these conditions. Also thank goodness for emergency food rations at the cabin. Anyway, glad you're back!
Really appreciate the effort to get this video Martin! Thanks much. You guys enjoy the heck out of getting to the cabin, and we enjoy the heck out of watching you! God Bless, and all the best as always.
It is amazing what some will do and endure just to have some cabin time in extra below freezing temperatures. Wood stoves do come in handy when its cold. Thanks for sharing Mr. Martin and have a grand day.
This old lady from southeast Mississippi would not be able to handle that cold weather. Only have seen snow that stayed for several days before melting may be a dozen times in my 78 years here in the Deep South. Down here we do not even have warm enough clothes to handle those kind of temperatures. Warm toilet seat sure helps I am sure. I can not deal with your cold weather and bet you could not deal with our hot humid weather where I am. Guess we all deal with what we have to in this life. The snow is pretty but you can keep it. God bless and keep you and Vonnie and your friends safe.
Quite a trek in this time wow. You don't realize how far 3 miles is until you hoof it through snow like that. Always good to have someone along with ya in these conditions no doubt. I thought my property was remote but nothing close to this. Glad you guys had a good trip. All this talk of cherry pies with coffee by the woodstove is making me hungry!
That is so funny, being the youngest of 9,all the other kids were always dong school activities, church, one night I was bummed,my Uncle asked me why so sad I said cause never be old enough,so he had me get dressed up,he told my grandma he was taking me out to get a country dog steak, they were the best chili dogs ever,I was 11,now 60.great memories, love the video
I was very happy to see the new video notification this morning. It’s great to see the first video of the winter trip. Hopefully, we will finally see a bit of snow soon down here in SW Va. I finished off the last dose of this cycles’ chemo the other day. I’m already feeling pretty good. My best wishes to you and your family sir. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for the next installment.👍
Martin, it is good to see you in the sub-zero north country. I am relieved you are not on your own. We are near the same age. I have spent a number of nights in a tent below zero with BSA. The BSA buddy system makes sense for youths and even more sense for old farts like us. Love you, Brother! Take care of yourself, Vonnie could never replace you.
Yes, with age and those temps the buddy system is so important. I am going to the InReach satellite messenger too so we can actually message back to the buddy stoveside if there is an issue.
I thought you would have the dawg of yours trained to come and meet you when you arrived at the trail head. We are finally through our very long cold snap, it is almost plus one (c) as I am watching this. We are into very deep slush and ice now. Thanks for sharing.
PS This is my favorite video with you and Kevin and the other one with Kevin and cut the trees down on the east side so the snow will build up happy holidays from Dayton Ohio
So it was -35F...kinda amazing to think that when this was filmed it was likely 100 degrees F warmer here in NC and only 65F. thats wild "weather-math".
Weather math is a great way to put it, here in Alaska we can be at 28°f at bedtime, and wake up at 5am with the temp at -20°f to -30°f 😀 not fun math to do lol
Now I'd say that's a tad cold! WOW stay warm around that fabulous wood stove. Good idea keeping the seat inside to keep it warm for those out house visits.
I'm jealous. You have more snow there than we have up here in Northern Ontario! Winter is by far my favorite season and I've been 'impatiently' waiting for a good layer of snow but it just doesn't seem to want to come! Got plenty of -40C temperatures though, so the arctic gear is getting its value this year.
Oh wow! The snow we had was extremely dry stuff. Talked to a friend last night and snowmobilers are noting that it is not doing the best job cooling their sleds because so little water content in it.
I've been into North country steaks, easy to thaw. and start cooking up. Hi Kevin good to see you! That is a good idea to keep the toilet seat at the stove. I bought a pool noodle for emergency purposes.
YEP, GOOD SEEING YOU AGAIN!!!!! NICE THAT YOU HAVE COMPANY W/YOU THIS TIME!! *EVEN THOUGH, I'M IN FLORIDA, I HAD 24 DEGREES, @ MY PLACE, LAST MIGHT. Do take care. Fl.
YEEHAW! Winter trip videos! Kevin looks like he's lost some weight? A foot plus of snow and 30 below...what a way to start the trip. Supposed to get a nasty mix of ice/sleet/snow/rain here in south-central NC tomorrow...I hope it's all snow.
Get the coffee ready for a cold day at Martin's cabin flesh COFFEE is on the way. Can we will sit down talk about the old times. I want to listen about Hawk's life at the cabin again maybe some new old stories.
Cold enough to freeze the jewels off a brass monkey. Don’t hit any bolder holes with the snow dog. I am looking forward to your posts this trip. Shabbat Shalom, SR
Several tubs of heavy wool clothing are kept at the cabin. Kevin dug into them instead of hauling all his stuff in there. David had the steaks so not sure what they were made of.
I know it was a big effort to get into the cabin at this time of the year but oh how i loved seeing this video. And the smiles and companions always make my day as well. Thank you all for your efforts to provide great content.
Any relation to heimo
A little harder to get the camera out but sure is worth it.
Your friend looks as happy as any man I have ever seen! I'll bet he is a joy to hang out with!
He is a trooper.
Excellent video. Beautiful out there in the woods.
It sure is
Martin, your videos always make me smile. Thanks !
My pleasure
Always a pleasure to see your video. Thank you
Thanks for watching.
Hahaha! What a great idea to keep the toilet seat toasty behind the stove. That cracked me up! Wish I could do that at home!
Simple pleasures!!
What about using a seat made out of styrofoam? I know that they feel warm in some minus degrees (celsius) but not sure when it’s colder.
Old Northwoods hunting shack trick.
@@vicsillnorth7970Beat me to it.
Wow, amazing how warm it is in the cabin with polar temps outside!
Thankful for that.
@@TheNorthwoodsman1, thank you for sharing! Keep warm! :-)
One of the best channels on u tube!!!! I love it....GOD BLESS.
Appreciate that
Keep that fireplace stoked up!! Stay warm Martin!
We did.
Love that wood stove. You two stay safe, warm and enjoy those cherry pies !
We sure did all that.
Martin, Kevin’s smile say’s it all. I laughed when Kevin said 30 bellow is a little chilly 🥶 Good memories!!!❄️
I like the comment only 3 miles to go;)
All in perspective.
Your cabin looks so welcoming after that long hike in. I love my cabin but know I couldn’t handle the those frigid temperatures. Don’t know how you guys hiked in all that way!! Thanks for bringing us along and take care.
A step at a time and enjoyed the journey.

Hello 🇦🇺.
Good wool makes all the difference.
When prepared for the winter, the cold and snow is most enjoyable. Great channel.
I see you know the secret.
Great video's martin thanks keep um coming
At least three more from this trip.
Good morning Martin. I have a feeling you are going to have a rocking good time during this stay.
We did.
Martin, I really, really enjoyed this. You sir, are indeed a true Northwoodsman. For those who have never experienced dragging sleds and packs through miles of snow, believe me, it isn't easy. At -30 we do curtail our outdoor pursuits till it warms around noon.
Been waiting for this video for almost a year!
Thank you as always Marty.
That is one way to put it.
Martin - you take the cake. I just love the trips you take in the winter. How do you do it? You’re strong as an ox! No wonder Vonnie doesn’t come with you. The dear girl would freeze - I freeze watching you. You boys do have fun - God bless.
Yes I do! The warm cabin makes it so enjoyable and SAFE.
As I watch this in Ottawa, ON, it's -26 Celsius.
It's so nice to see winter 2022 cabin episodes. Hopefully Jim will make it up this year.
Next month is in the planning stages.
Hello Martin, hope you two enjoyed your cherry 🍒 pies !
Wow, watching this sure brought on some chilly-whillies up my arms & back.

We do pace ourselves.
Coffee always seems to taste better while watching Martins cabin videos...thanks Martin for another video and a great cup of coffee 👍👍
Glad to oblidge.

I actually have a switch by the door that turns on an LED light in the outhouse but no heater.
Omg your doing great Martin, looks beautiful 🤝👍👍
It was really nice being there.
Beautiful time to be in the woods.
It sure was.
Dedication getting to the cabin this time. Thankful you had a friend Kevin along.as you never know in these conditions. Also thank goodness for emergency food rations at the cabin. Anyway, glad you're back!
Such a cheerful atmosphere inside the cabin
It is even better in person.
Perfect!!! That’s what living is all about! I love these videos!
Good to hear such reports.
Can’t wait to see the new cabin get started. I lived in Elgin, IL in the late 60’s & 70’s. I remember that kinda snow!
They are still talkin about the late 70's storm.
Thanks again for sharing Martin!!! Blessings!!!
Glad to provide you with a cabin trip.
Always s pleasure Sir. Enjoy your videos.
Thank you kindly
Mr. Martin you always sound so excited when you first arrive and so sad when you are closing up , anyway I have my snow shoes on and ready to go ..
Should be returning next month with longer daylight to play in.
Martin you are the OG! Thanks for all the time and work you put in to share your trip too and at your cabin. I can't get enough of your videos!
Wow, thank you
Morning coffee with a stick (whiskey) in it, when it's thirty below outside. That's real comfort. Thanks for sharing that.
You bet!
Love the snow little bit chilly I can't do it but I love the snow it's beautiful place Little piece of heaven enjoyed buddy
It is really enjoyable with the proper planning.

Good wool clothes and that woodstove make it really enjoyable.

Very true! Not my favorite time to be at the cabin because of the really long nights but still great times.
-20 here in Northern NY this morning. Glad the videos keep coming!
That is cold enough.
I always enjoy your videos!!! You’re cabin looks amazing and comfortable.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing Martin, pretty chiily for sure, :-)
Yes it was
Looked like fun! I had to check the thermometer in my home it suddenly felt chilly . . . ;>)
It will do that to you.
"NORTH COUNTRY STEAKS", it's a well rounded meal! Ha, ha! Now that is cold! Stay warm...👍
Cold weather goes better when ingesting some good fat for fuel.

I noticed it was so cold there the icicles hanging off the edge of the cabin were huddling together to stay warm! That’s cold!
Sure made it hard to just break off a pot full.
Ahhh, these are the videos I've been waiting for. Thank you.
Amazed how popular cold and snow can be.
@@TheNorthwoodsman1 It's partially because it reminds many of us of Dick Proenneke, but in a way we can relate to more.

North Country Steaks! Ha ha... -30! Nice to introduce Kevin to us. What birds are out in that kind of weather????🐦
The same as the people, dumb or really hungry.
Great start to a "fresh" year. Food & warmth & nobody checking to see if the grass is cut. Pretty close to heaven. Take care Brian 81

Happy new year 🎉 ! Stay warm and safe. Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. ❤
Thanks
Good to see ya. We hung the seat inside also. Its no fun sitting on a cold seat. Memories.
Makes the journey bearable.
Good morning from northern ontario Martin. Minus 32 here this morning. Just got back from 5 days at camp also. Enjoyed the video.
You know and understand that its all in being prepared.
PS This is my favorite video with you and Kevin and the other one with Kevin and cut the trees down on the east side so the snow will build up happy holidays from Dayton Ohio

Doing those sausages like you did is genius!
A lot of meat has been cooked in that stove doorway.

Your system for cooking the "north country steaks" is very inventive. Hope you stayed warm.

Awesome sights. I'm in central Indiana and we have not gotten ANY snow here.
Not much here in Northern IL either but lots way north.
That’s more like it? Lol but that’s cold. Thanks Martin love these vids
Oh, everyone likes to see someone else out in such stuff.LOL
Hello Martin, you knows its cold when bringing in the toilet seat for the night is a good idea . 💡. Stay warm man .

Low snow fall this year so far in northern Wisconsin
With low snow we can get about a mile away but then have to monitor the weather pretty close so not to get trapped.
