      Yeh, amazing aren't they? When I stumbled across these a few months ago, I was literally frothing at the mouth!

    Will there be a follow up comparing this to the VST or other "lab type" refractometer to see accuracy vs precision?
    How would your measurements change if you used filtered syringes? (I realize this doesn't matter as much if you are just comparing to shot after shot but could if you want to compare the number to other people, baskets or brew methods)
    Hope that's not too wordy. Cheers!

    These won’t tell you if your coffee is bad or good. These are just numbers, it matters what’s in the cup.

      It will definitely tell you if your coffee is over or under extracted which to many is the most difficult thing to resolve. Of course, if you have low quality coffee it's not going to be able to tell you that, but if you're wondering why your coffee tastes sour, these can really help you find that sweet spot.

    These look cool
    Love the way you explained things ...
    If you had a Decent machine (like you do, aka "Lisa") would these help you dial in much more (how much) with the already amazing Decent software analytics ?
    Obviously there is several components here
    - scale
    - refractometer
    - software
    And they all work together
    Btw is the price $300 Australian ?
    Cheers
    Stu

      Thanks Stu! They would be useful but not as necessary with the Decent. I think the Decent helps eliminate a lot of user error and hone in on the perfect extraction, so the R2 would probably only be needed as a reference really. But it might be helpful to understand how to extract that little bit more yield.
      This was posted a while ago and they were on sale back then so I think now they are about $300aud just for the R2 and $450 for the combo. But just keep an eye out for a sale.

    I hope I get answers for myv2 questions 🙏
    1- Does the scale timer automatically stop after the extraction is done?
    2- How big is it compared to others like Timemore Black Mirror (my current scale)?
    Thanks 🤗

      @Rydecoffeecoach  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to press stop on the app. I think it's 2cm wider than the timemore but same length 👌

    Did you mention whether you paid for these items yourself? Or were they provided free of charge for your review? My results do not align with those who got the unit for free from DiFluid.

      I'm not sure, I doubt it though. I think you might be able to use a workaround but its designed to work with the difluid app.

    Tried to buy them from the manufacturer website but Australia has not been listed as a shipping destination. Any advice on how I can buy this here in Australia as a kit instead of buying a refractometer and scale separately?

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh thats weird. I bought them from the manufacturers last year. I can see in their shipping that they have Australia included but you're right, its not in the drop down. I'll reach out to them and see whats going on. it might be they went through a distributor or something now.

    • @Rydecoffeecoach

      Not as of yet and it doesn't fit on the tray either (unless you bring it forward slightly but then you get water discharged all over your benchtop).

      @@Rydecoffeecoach Actually, knowledge is power, as I'm sure every teacher, trainer and coach knows. That's why you can suffer from an information overload, but not a knowledge overload. That even applies to coffee making with all its latest tools and techniques. Having tons of information from gadgets and sensors still might not result in the knowledge you crave to reproducibly make great coffee. Practice and learn to trust your taste and senses. And I'm saying this as a scientist who deals with information all day.
