Thank you for setting up and sharing this conversation. I’m going to listen to it again in a few moments. I’m so grateful for the work Wiman did to create his book “Joy” which has given me so much to think about and to enjoy, as well as introducing me to other poets. I have given away multiple copies of it to friends. His essays at its beginning are worth the price alone. I’m also going to have to read “Job” again. Been a long time. Thanks for the reminder.
I loved this conversation because I love beautiful prose and amazing poetry. I mean Isiah….almost incomparable. As the bible is inspired the I believe The Holy Spirit used the writers to record the prayers of Jesus as they have been so helpful, encouraging, hope building and revealing of God’s heart for us and also the wonderful relationship within the Trinity.
Asa former teacher of over 30 years, I also think memorization is an important skill. It helps to build focus in learning and a foundation upon which to build and incorporate more complex ideas.
Deep stuff discussed here. A little dark too. Which I appreciated. Also, “The Tree Of Life” is a wonderful film. My 2nd favorite Malick movie after “A Hidden Life”.
