In my opinion Polly is not her favourite child is because of hers and Alice's past. Alice sent away her child 2 to therapy and had barely properly spoken to her since she planned on running away with Jason. I can see Alice's love somewhat fading. On the other hand Betty was always with Alice even when Alice was rude and stuff Betty always was there and I think that's a reason why she favourites her.
I know a lot of people say they feel sorry for Betty and I do too but I feel even more sorry for Polly. She got pregnant as a teenager from Jason who was one of her relatives , Jason died, she got sent to the sisters of quiet mercy, her father was a serial killer who is dead now, she was used by the farm, is in an asylum now and Alice cares more about Betty than her. At least Betty has Jughead, Veronica and Archie and the possibility to finish school and go to college. Polly has none of that.
this episode is one of the best. I mean, this is the part when you solve the problems with analyzing it. They really need this episode, it's better than those musical episodes

This is such a great moment. Betty calling out Alice and them talking about their problems. Alice is one of the most human parents. All of the times Alice breaks down Betty is the only person that's there for her every time. She's going to have a closer bond with someone that always comforts her. Parents do have emotional problems and they do try their best with their kids, but a lot of the times they do take out their emotional problems on their kids unintentionally. They are people they're going to have a kid they connect with better or have a stronger bond with. They still love all their kids, but that happens. It's also usually the youngest who's the favorite. Besides Alice joined a cult and tried to secretly take it down just to save Polly. She obviously loves her and would do a lot for her.

I think if you watch the series over you can honestly tell she loved Betty more then her other children. Like with my mom I can honesty tell who she likes the most. I'm one of these people that likes the show ironically, I just love how this guidance counsellor just doesn't need any other context to this - she first appears here and is already hearing rants about the serial killer gene, long lost relatives and joining cults.
Betty is my favorite but she had to become smart and mature due to shitty circumstances. And even tho she seems so strong and independent, children like her have a lot of issues to solve later on. (it's a series yes but irl that happens often)
Alice is my favorite character in this show aside from Betty. They’re both so amazing and my god this scene had me in tears and even I cried a little inside.
the problem is that Alice refuses that Betty grows up, you can see it in all seasons, Alice wants to keep Betty "small" because she gets bigger and bigger, you can see it in season 1 and everything else, she tries to control her relationships, where she goes, her makeup, and a lot of other things. I know it can be hard for a parent to watch their child grow up to be a beautiful young woman, but this is the cycle of life, but that doesn't mean Betty will no longer love her mother or will not support her anymore, now it's up to Alice to accept that Betty is no longer a child. Alice has always wanted to control everything, whether it's in her life or in the lives of her childrens, she always wants to know everything, do everything, say everything, and it becomes painful for Betty. She is a young woman and now she needs to think about herself, about her studies and everything else without being worried about her mother. Betty will ALWAYS love and support her mother, but that’s the cycle of life, a parent can’t keep their childs to themselves (don’t even know if it makes sense.) Alice need to let Betty go…Even tho it’s hard.

Penelope has had a life of terrible circumstances and Alice has had a life of horrible decisions which means everything that's wrong in her life is her fault. isabella s I feel like people think Penelope's worse I disagree. Penelope has had a life of terrible circumstances and Alice has had a life of horrible decisions which means everything that's wrong in her life is her fault. They're both bad parents and emotionally abusive in different ways but I think Alice took it too far with her own children.

The only thing I dislike about this scene is that the therapist never tries to see things from Alice's perspective and they both turn on Alice when really that's not what therapy should be. No one should feel targeted or attacked. Parenting is hard, that's no excuse, but this show seems to be leading in the direction of parent= dumb child= adult/right
