The reason I use the hole on the tongue is cause it helps make the laces shorter so I don’t have to tuck the laces to get a loose laced look.

it's mostly just a fashion thing, some people like the look of it better, but also with nike dunks and jordan 1's, from experience, having them looser tends to feel better cause they don't have a bunch of foam in the midsole. Some people don't know how to tie it and end up having it fall off their heels tho lol.
