Thank you for introducing me to this person. Never would have heard of her otherwise. It's amazing how many musical artists are out there that you potentially never find unless it's by chance. It reminds me of old school Karyn White and Stephanie Mills.
Absolutely. Yeah I would have never thought of a Chinese artist reaction here, but here I am. It’s so amazing how the world is so big and small at the same time. How many people and things happening out there! This woman story touched me and I’m really inspired. Thanks my friend 💜
This song, "Before i Fall in Love," was released in 2001 from her first debut english album into the North America market when she broke into the America music market. Last year, it would have marked her 30th anniversary in the Mandarin/Cantonese pop music industry. She was born in Hong Kong and grew up in America before she joined a singing contest at the age of 18 when she went back to Hong Kong for a vacation . Thank you for covering her videos, she's always been my idol since i was 14 ( 1997) . Here is a live performance of her in a 1998 concert in Taiwan. This song, "The Colours of the World," is about embracing race diversity and unity.Hope you enjoy it and remember this great singer. ❤ th-cam.com/video/U1kv335AxkU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kRgcRrEYkiaXwe6R

Something you might be interested to know about her, Coco had always supported fellow artists and newer people in the industry. She would intentionally help and boost artists who were much smaller, using her star power, experience, time, energy to really help them. At her funeral, all everyone talked about was how she took care of everyone, how much effort and heart she put into it. One of her friends not in the industry talked about how even though Coco was so busy, when they met up she would go all out to personally plan amazing parties, down to picking out the perfect glasses and fairy lights, just to make her friends and family feel special and happy. One of the song writers/composers Coco worked with talked about how she complimented his work when they met and said she wanted to work with him. But he was shy and was worried about causing misunderstandings, so he never contacted her first. But Coco kept in touch with him, and eventually asked him to help rearrange the song she sang at the Oscars for a singing competition. When they collaborated, she said to him. “See? Don’t I keep my word?”
Hi Chris , I heard of Coco Lee but I didn’t listen to her songs as I seldom listen Chinese or Cantonese songs. But ‘Before I fall in love’ is one of my favourite songs. Coco Lee was actually from Hong Kong & raised in Hong Kong until she was a teenager her mother took her to San Francisco. After she died, I started to follow her story as I felt so sorry for this strong woman who was betrayed by her Canadian husband for many years. Despite her beauty, she never had rumours or outside affairs but stayed loyal to her husband. However, her husband refused to divorce but continued to cheat on her. I personally don’t believe Coco would commit suicide. All her life, her mother was her priority. As her father died just weeks before she was born, her mother had to raise 4 kids. She worked hard all her life to give her mum & sisters good living. She loved her fans too. I heard Coco still hoped her husband would see her in hospital so she might try to make him come back but the drug overdosed made her vomit in the ambulance. However, what happened in the ambulance was never announced & police did not announce her cause of death. Currently, HK police still doing investigation. You must really listen to all her Mandarin songs starting from around 1998. She started her fame in Taiwan so her songs are mostly in Mandarin. Then she sang the theme song of a Chinese movie that won many prizes in Oscar, may be 2001? She was the first Chinese singer to perform at the Oscar! She also sang the Chinese version of Disney Mulan theme song, reflection. He had many concerts in Asia & was very wealthy. However, she remained humble & down to earth & were close to her fans. Last 10 years of her life 38-48, she was more active in China. She was a judge in a famous singing competition, Sing China! I think you know about the story.
Oh !! Yes thank you my friend. This is a full insight on her life you’ve just given me. Wow, I didn’t even know about the ambulance event. Wow she is so incredibly inspiring even after she’s gone because I’m so inspired by her life story. And I love her voice so much. I’ll check all her other songs you’ve suggested. Thank you so much for your input.🙏🙏
