Thanks Greg, years of practice, I guess 🙈. And luckily, it’s pretty easy with the GoPro to just sit it down and let it do its job. I actually sometimes find it easier to film myself than others, because u can plan a little better with urself 😂. Yeah, getting stuck and everything sounding weird when you get going again resonates a lot. I got sort of the same problem, especially single-handing. What seems to help a lot is keeping everything shipshape and optimize the boat on the ability to leave fast. A buddy of mine has that down to almost an art form and it is amazing. It takes about 90 seconds from hanging out to sailing on a 36ft vessel, most of which is getting the anchor up. Just grab the jib furling line out of the cubbyhole and throw it in the cockpit, pull out the sail, release the tiller lock and off you go. Also a safety feature and sometimes funny when skipper is impatient to get going and, instead of bothering the crew, just starts sailing on his own.

I have a Pelagic AP as well. Had problems with it turning in circles as well. Took some time to figure it out. Turned out to be loose wire connection in the power junction box. The shaking from the engine, or a deep roll under sail would trigger it.....intermittently. It looks like the power is still on but what happens is the power cuts out for a second or so due to the poor electrical connection. This happened to me a number of times over a two year period, trust rating. The problem was in the junction box connections where the tight confines of the connection box made actually getting good connections challenging. In fact, now that I’m writing this I should just upgrade the box to something larger. Great AP once I got it organized. Used it a lot of Short handed racing. I used to drive, now I only drive in the harbor.
Oh that sounds interesting, thanks for the info. I did bend the connecting plug a bit so maybe the bad connection is happening there. But also, I had done the wrong update , so that did not help 🙈

The quiet busyness is really the most tranquil. The expanses of underwater, island canopy all the places you can explore and not find anything unfamiliar though a timeline forgotten from 100 years ago in the sand or beach line is just as comforting as what you would expect to find though was happy to discover around every place that has nothing unexpected. It was just premium luxury of some extra unknown time of place.

You should keep any metal or electronics by at least 12 inches off a compass if ever possible. Plus on a change particular one that caused interference you need to swing your compass to make sure it is not out by several degrees. You never know when you will have to rely on this basic instrument. Stay safe!

Thanks for sharing another great video. Watch those lifelines though. I removed the vinyl coating of mine and 3/4 strands were broken due to corrosion. Replaced with low stretch rope.
I will point out for those wondering that you don't HAVE to have an anchor in order to have an anchor beer. But it surely helps. Very nice video for those of us in the north right now. Thanks.
Perhaps you should try building a bigger vane for your wind pilot? You may need to add more counterweight, but it's totally doable. Might help with the light winds there. Making it taller will get it into cleaner air. Bet it's nice to be sailing again. Been over a year for me, but I'll be doing a solo Atlantic crossing in about 2 weeks! :D
These solo sailors are inspiring. Mainly because if I get to live this dream in a couple of years, solo is exactly the situation I'll be in since the other half has zero interest. Lol
Glad I'm not the only one who hears strange noises when we are underway. Last trip, I kept hearing something...sure enough we were taking on 500 gallons of water. So I'm not crazy 😁
Ahhhh, that new bottom paint is crazy-good, Karl really slips along now. Pity about the AP software upgrade that wasn't so good. Not going to say "I told you so", because I still don't follow the rules about making last minute changes, but updating software on board frightens me for 2 reasons - the update might crash and leave you with nothing OR it might not work well and you can't undo it. Funny too that, as I am about to leave England, I also have no wind - after weeks of way too much - grrrrr....

I’m assuming you have checked that the autopilot’s compass is not being affected by a metallic object laying in close vicinity to it. Where is your autopilot’s compass located?

You got to get you a/p up and running... I looked up your device and it has the heading reference electronic compass in the device itself (non ideal really). Putting another compass close is problematic, its has magnets (for compensation and for the rotating part too). As a rule, a meter is a safe distance. So your current changes, whilst you are doing the right thing, you need to greater distance to all electric and magnetic. A trick is to twist both pos and neg electrical lines such that their magnetic fields cancel for must have cables near the a/p. If calibrations does not bite, then all this is where to look first. If the cables to the a/p allow it, I would do a test by moving it temporarily into mid cockpit. Buena suerte.

I wonder if your auto-pilot is doing an auto-calibration by going in a circle ? Normally to calibrate you manually steer a circle, but maybe the software is more advanced now. (a thought - I don't know).
I admire your exceptional abilities, whether it be in sail a ship, do underworld repairs, hi-tech mods, BUT, I would rather do all this in my Bertram. Cheers good lady.

Hi there and welcome to Untie The Lines. There are many videos on the web about the cost to sail around the world. When u watch a couple of them, u will see how much they all differ. The cost depends a lot on the type of your boat and ur living standards. I usually live of 400 to 1000$ a month, depending on boat projects, destinations, country entry fees etc. They say that what u used to spend on land gives u a good idea what u will spend on boats. Obviously, u have to add boat maintenance cost and marina fees (if u r a marina person). But if u buy fancy stuff with ur current lifestyle and go out a lot then u will probably do that when u live on ur boat, too. Hope this helps a bit... Cheers, Nike

Yes, I do ...that’s why I wear the deck shoes, it helps me cope. But it’s all bare-able, just have to adjust my life to it a bit.
