  • Undoubtedly one of the loveliest foliage plants around is the Calathea zebrina. But beauty comes at a price! This plant can be a bit tricky, so Plant Vibes is here to the rescue. In this video I outline some key tips I discovered to make these plants happy. And a happy plant babe is a happy plant parent. #houseplant #urbanjungle #plantvibes

    I bought a Zebrina two weeks ago, to go in a dark corner up on my landing.
    I repotted her straight away with a well draining mix of coco coir, worm castings and 50% pumice. I have her in my own self watering system. with a wick running up the inside of the pot, under a grow light that is not too close. I also have a small humidifier nearby if I need it.
    She absolutely loves it, as do all of my other calatheas and today, I spotted a new leave coming.
    Calatheas love self watering pots as it keeps the soil constantly damp. You don't have to worry about watering, as you just fill up the reservoir when it is empty!

    I just don't have luck with house plants. I can't help it. I either over or under water it. I admire those of you that can. Now plants outdoors; can't get enough of them! Thanks 😊

      I feel ya on trying to find a happy medium on watering. I up-potted all my plants and because I'm afraid of over watering (yup, I killed a snake plant) I keep telling myself there's no need to water till water drips through the holes because, I think,, the roots have not reached the new soil at the bottom of the bigger pot. I'm thinking I might give in and get a moisture meter because I don't want to be under watering. I wish there was a tool that shows how deep the roots have travelled😊The struggle is real

    I don't have a Zebrina yet, but I do have a Warscewiczii, which is pretty similar, and once I got the watering down it TOOK OFF! It quickly became one of my favorite plants in my collection😍 and like you said, they don't need a ton of bright light! I am definitely on the hunt for the Zebrina because I think they would look great together! They're both such statement plants in a home👌🌿❤

    Calatheas are a little bit mysterious and intimidating to me. I researched the proper care but still not sure I can take a good care of them. They are so beautiful. May be as my experience grows, I’ll take a challenge of Calathea😊

    Another informative video. Thank you...uhmmm🙏😊 I know it's obvious, but my AHA moment is when you said root bound plants dry out more frequently. I hadn't considered the lack of moisture around the sides of the pot. I always only focussed on the roots at the bottom of the pot. Another AHA is better less water than drenching the plant because the soil gets water logged. I know this video is specific to Calatheas but I still find the tip valuable for my plant care toolbox. Loving your content. Keep those vibrations coming...uhmm,🙏

      awesome!! i love hearing that! i'm glad you were able to glean something helpful for your other plants from the video. thats why i try to explain as best as possible, so the actual theories and understanding of caring for plants comes across and that information can be used across the houseplant garden

    I love zebrina too, but I have found her impossible to survive in my house for longer period than 2 months. She always has yellowing leaves, brown spots etc. I have plenty of plants in my house, lots of calatheas too, high humidity (>60%) but she always dies. I tried to water her with distilled water, but it does not work also. So, although I love her I have to skip it in my collection.

    Can you separate the rizomes out to create two plants? My Sabrina has spread out the edge of her pot and everything in the centre clump is dead (she isn't thriving in scottish winter😅). I want to report her but wondering if I can safely split her out.

    • @plantvibrations
      @plantvibrations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you definitely can! Is there above soil growth coming out of the side rhizomes? Ensure that when you separate To include roots and top growth. And then you can discard the central leafless section
