Good video. I swear as I get older the amount of appreciation for good tools has increased dramatically for me. I came across a set of old side cutters (black hail I believe the name says) in a box of rusted screws and bolts. I just couldn’t leave them to rot I brought them home and ran a file across the blades. They work great now I was able to cut a dime with them.

Kraeuter makes some great tools. I like the cutters. I cleaned up a pair and showed my Dad. He was so impressed I gave them to him. Love the rest of your tool haul.

Thanks Rob! The metal seems to be high quality. There wasn't a lot of pitting and the cutting jaws were too hard to file.

The Plasti-Dip turned out great. Like the color. My dad bought all his boys a basic tool set when we were around 10 YO. It included that Krueter diagonal cutters and needle nose. Despite it being 60 years ago the Plasti-Dip red is still on those cutters.

Great job refinishing that Kraeuter cutters. I've always had good luck with plastidip. For my metal wire cutters I like to use a special set of cutters my dad had in his tool box. USA Military issued H.K. Porter Barb wire cutters meant to cut Electrified Barb wire! Pristine shape including the Rubber coated handles! He knew where they were made! He worked at the H.K.P. foundry that made them!

Great Job ! Excellent result, although for leader wire you might want to put/pour a silicone insert to “trap” the wire so it won’t be ballistic.

I did the same to a pair of Klein pliers about a year ago. Same process on the wire wheel...then replaced the grips with a new red set you dip in hot water to make pliable.
The result is perfect. They are heavy duty and too large for everyday use, but so satisfying to look at. I learn a lot from your videos...the plastic dip I was not aware of. Thanks!

Great tip on using plastic wrap, specifically pushing it down to the surface to eliminate the air gap. It makes me crazy when paint, glue, sealer, varnish, etc dry out between uses. Those materials are expensive and the waste adds up - not to mention that these things take a toll on the environment!

I got some tool dip thru JC Whitney I guess 20 some years ago, the tools I dipped are still good today. Don't remember what the name of it was but I remember the stuff had a terrible odor until it dried.
My Dad worked for GM he said some of the guys used to melt tail lights and dip tools in it.

JohnFix ...plasti-dip is awesome. Lots of uses too. I had a car with a steel shift knob. Looked great but too hot in summer. Plasti-dip was the answer. And when it came time to peel it off, I had a free clown nose!

Quite a buddy you have there, I can't wait to see what santa brought. Any tips on sharpening diagonal cutters? I have a pair I have been using daily for around 27 years (SO) and they are only slightly dull. I don't like the new ones or my local dealer would gladly replace them. I would prefer to extend their life. Incidentally, I mainly use them on safety wire and cotter pins!

I tried dipping my every day tools I used when I worked at the hospital maintenance but it never held up. Always wanted to come off. It wasn't the brand you use. I will have to try it.
