    I watched this video because it showed my exact speaker in the thumbnail and I just recently got 2 Minis. This is the pinnacle of curated content by companies like Google and Amazon. I love it. Great video, too. I love that you got right to the point and went step-by-step for those who needed it. Really well edited for the video and sound, too. I've never seen this channel before but I really liked that you took the time to answer questions or concerns people may have as you go along. That's the mark of a true tech support person right there. Knowing exactly what kind of questions and concerns people would ask even when they're not there to ask it.

    Brett, This worked perfectly! I had contacted Taotronics, and they said it could not be done which seemed wrong. We connect the Taotronics Receiver to an FM Transmitter to play music throughout our home via an unused FM frequency. We had done this with the Amazon Dot units since they have an audio-out plug, and this now makes it possible using the Google Home Mini without attempting to install an adapter. It also works with a group of either Amazon or Google units, and the FM radio music seems to sinc without noticeable delays among the speakers. Thanks very much for giving us great directions and a new source of music!

    Never mind my last two comments, I figured it out! In order to simultaneously cast the Harmon Kardon blue tooth with another google device speaker through a google home, you have to have the blue tooth speaker set as the default speaker on the google home or google mini you're using to create the group. I now have my Harmon Kardon Onyx Studio 1 in the living room playing simultaneously with my JBL link 10 in the kitchen all because I didn't set my HK as the default speaker on my google base unit. Phew. I hope this helps someone who is in the same boat.

    Good demo. I paired mine with a JBL xTreme and it plays well, but volume controls don't work well for me. I can tell the speaker to turn the volume up or down, but it doesn't actually do it until the media stops and starts again. It's annoying to me, but if you can get past adjusting volume manually, it's a good experience.

    Brett, Thanks for this update for the new Google Home app paring, I was able to figure it out with your 2018 video, yet this is better to have. I erred in my post a day ago to your 2018 video, and I apologize. Using your method, the Google Home Mini will link to the Taotronics and will play through a single speaker when directly wired to the speaker. The Taotronics Receiver can also be connected to an FM Transmitter (about $50 or so on Ebay) and will play through FM receivers or FM radios in the house. We haven't noticed any lag in music playing at the same time on any combination of Google Mini, Amazon Dot, FM radios/receivers, or by the Techtronics connected to another speaker. Unlike the Amazon Dot with its built-in audio-out plug, I was unable to find a way to get the Mini to play songs through a Group while connected to the Taotronics Receiver. Thus, it seems you can't play simultaneously through Google Home speakers/displays on a Group as well as on the FM devices using the Taotronics Receiver and a transmitter. I'm guessing that the Mini simply isn't functional to connect with other Grouped Mini speakers/devices when it is paired by bluetooth to a single speaker, or, in my case, to the Taotronics Receiver. It seems to me that this simultaneous play to Grouped Mini speakers and FM radios will work if one installs an audio-out plug inside of a Google Home mini (eliminating the warranty). Many TH-cam postings show how it is done. I may buy or find an old Mini and try this. Had hoped the Taotronics would suffice.

    Thanks, Brett, for another great video. I have one question: when you pair your Google Home Mini to a Bluetooth Speaker, will the music and any other sound output come from BOTH the Google Home Mini AND the extra speaker, or from the bluetooth speaker ONLY? This was not very clear to me.
    I have a Google Mini I would like to pair an extra speaker with, but I would love if my music could come from both devices at the same time, so that I could place them on opposite sides of a large room.
    Thanks!

    • @TechWithBrett
      @TechWithBrett  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. The music will only come out of the Bluetooth speaker, not both of them. When you ask the Google Home a question the response will come out of the Google Home.

    Thanks for the tips, however I have one question. Does the BT speaker need to be powered on, or is standby mode enough? I guess this might be different from device to device.
    The idea was to get a Samsung HW-Q80R soundbar for my TV which I also wanted to listen to music on through my Google Home, but then I found out that it only has Alexa and it was a dealbreaker, until I found out that you could stream through BT instead! But it would be great if I didn't need to power it on first for it to work.

I was trying to pair through the "Paired Bluetooth devices" menu, which asks that you pair your phone to the Mini, and then errors out with "Failed to put XXX speaker into discovery mode". Asking the Mini to "Pair a device" using voice failed in a similar fashion ("Something went wrong, retry later"). Pairing via the Default music speaker menu is a great workaround.

    Brett, The HK Onyx speaker is an excellent one, and having these commands is useful. Thanks! I also appreciate having your list of equipment. My wife and I aren't as young as we once were so our fidelity range is more limited. We play the Amazon Dot and now the Google Home through the FM Transmitter, then pick up the FM signal on three receivers located on our main floor. The receivers have very good speakers, woofers, volume, and signal strength. We can control the volume through the Dot or Mini in my Tech Room, and they are connected to the transmitter (located near the ceiling) or by using the remote of any receiver. This works well for us. My only complaint is that, especially Amazon Music, will simply disconnect far more often than we prefer, but we simply ask any Dot in our home to play the station again on our First Floor Group. The FM Transmitter has worked flawlessly. We are happiest with the Mini and the Nest Display. The Dots have worked well also.

    • @TechWithBrett

    I am using Android and I don't get the same Home screen you do. There is no "Home" icon on the top right, no matter what screen I go to. So I can't get to the devices screen you are showing and I can't find the Bluetooth pairing function. I found it once by accident but now I can't find it. This is not an intuitive app at all. Boo hiss to the developers.

      @bradmorgan911 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TechWithBrett BTW, your video is really good. I did finally find the function to add the Bluetooth speaker and it is as you say, you have to go to the Home screen, scroll down and find the device, select it and then scroll down to select "Default Music Speaker" and from there you can pair the Bluetooth speaker. As I mentioned, the developers didn't do a great job on this one. That's not your fault - just venting. It's working and I enjoy having the Bluetooth option. Thanks again.

    Cool. I have the first gen harman/kardon Onyx with AirPlay and BlueTooth. It has a battery built-in, but typically drains itself even though it is off. It isn't very portable either. And I hated it for needing Bluetooth to be paired with a device, even though I only used it for AirPlay, which created issues, suddenly reconnecting the speaker when I got home etc.
    I have been toying with this idea for a while - having it on constant power, and plugging the Home Mini into the USB port for power, and use it as an extra Google Home with more oomph.
    But will the speaker go to sleep? Will the Home Mini keep it on at all times, or wake it when necessary? I'm thinking of power consumption etc.

    Brett, absolutely perfect video for me to watch. I was wanting to do this with the exact same speaker you have. Everything works great, but I have one problem. I can't get my nest display to play a specific playlist from my TH-cam music playlist. I'm trying to play Christmas Music on my front porch from my nest hub to a small Bluetooth speaker that is on the front porch. But each time I try to tell Google to play the specific playlist, it plays something else. Any suggestions??? Thanks again for all the wonderful, thoughtful, educational videos also. Merry Christmas to you and your lovely Family.

      So that items have changed. Just go tot he Google Home devices and then select the settings in the top right and go to the Default speaker setting and you set it up there.

    Did you experience any lag and music being out of sync between two speakers, one connected via bluetooth and one playing from the Google Home device directly? The last time I tried this set up about a year ago, the music coming out of the bluetooth speaker was a second or two behind the music coming out of another Home device playing directly from its speaker and also behind a speaker connected to a Chromecast Audio.

      Phil PJ Davis For a Google Home group or Dual audio in the Bluetooth? I will cover the Google Home in another video but for the dual audio each Bluetooth device needs to have the same Bluetooth hardware like 4.0 or 4.1.
