- I've journeyed across Norway to film and document the best loop rides the country has to offer. This series will reveal the countless incredible cycling destinations in the land of the midnight sun.
In episode four, we embark on the journey that inspired Henrik Ibsen to write his classic play "Peer Gynt." This remarkable gravel road traverses Norway's remote eastern mountain plains. As we cycle through this incredible loop, we are greeted by wide-open vistas of untouched land.

Before starting in Vinstra, do the Jotunheimvegen. So that you can arrive in Skåbu, drink some water, then enjoy the crazy long slow descent to Vinstra. One of the most fun of the tour that Matthew helped plan a couple years back.
Just love your videos. Never gonna do them by bicycling, maybye by motorbike or a car, but I still love your videos.
4:21 - white and blue boat down by the lake. That's mine.
stopping at 1.17, brilliant opening !! great content
What an Intro - very good
I did this ride today and loved it. I wore a red jersey and so the sheep moved out of my way. Or not😅
Great to hear!
So nice. Brings back memories from when i did the same loop many years ago, Actually, I biked from Lillehammer up on the west side of Gudbrandsdalen, part of which is also Peer Gynt Seterveg, then dropped down to Vinstra and up on the east side where you filmed. Beautiful
Lovely. Thanks.
thanks Matthew!
Amazing as always. Love your videos
of course I've heard the flute melody. but for the life of me can't recall where .. now I won't sleep tonight. thx very much. mega vid tho ❤
That melody is "morning mood"/"morgenstemning" by E.Grieg.
Bugs Bunny ring a bell?
Might have been Good morning Sam.
Good morning Ralph.
@@jeffroussell I found imdb page listing all uses of the piece. and looney toons were listed several times. so possibly yes :)
Pirates ARE amazing! lol
This is another great video of beautiful Norway, and I understand that you are trying to show these routes in the best light to entice people to actually come and ride them, but I miss Moaning Matthew. A jovial comment about sheep in the road, and the smallest mention of the plague of annoying flies, Moaning Matthew would have had more to say about this, and on top of having to do the hill climb as the first effort of the day!
He makes an appearance in Episode 5
@@matthewnorway fantastic, thank you!
Next time try Grimsdalen. Folldal to Dovre or the other way.
Tour de Dovre
Great video, thanks for sharing your ride! How do you mostly handle your water stops, just ensuring you go via local stores or taking enough for the whole day between accommodation or?
Hei Matthew. Looks great! Now that my back is working again (bloody back - two summers in a row it's locked up painfully ) I'm off to do this route tomorrow. On the map of the route you have plotted cycling the west side of the river between Kvam and Vinstra, but on the video you appear to cycle on the east side of the river. I'm inclined to stay on the east side. Is that best?
Both are great to do. The west you cycle closer to the river but on the east you are higher up with more views of the valley. You decide!
@@matthewnorway Thanks Matthew. I took the east side. Lovely ride. Especially with the solid warm-up to start with 😅
Views from the gravel road are amazing and shouldn't be missed but are there more tire issues than usually experienced?
Some gnarly rocks on the road.
The road was in good condition
What hotel are you referencing in the beginning? It looks amazing!
HI Explore Sjoa
Have you tried to cycle the old «Kongevegen over filefjell»? I know its not a continuous stretch of road, but its really beautiful.
yes, it's part of another loop video coming later.
Look amazing Mathew and seems perfect weather for long ride. Which month this ride was done? Love and thanks for sharing ❤
June
❤❤❤❤😊
I didn't think about this route as a day ride, I'll definitely try it next time I'm visiting family there. Did you try riding the other Peer Gynt road that starts from Tretten/Svingvoll? Nice video
yes Peer Gynt vegen is another beautiful gravel road
you missed the chance to use dovregubbens hall music man. Epic troll music
