This is what happened with the family band LILIAC with America's Got Talent for the 2020. They got thru the initial audition, and then Covid hit, and while waiting for the next round, their well versed Music Producer father fully read the AGT contract and saw all the BS y'all just detailed, and was like, "Yeah, nah, we out..."

Fantastic video. You guys need to make a follow up or make this a recurring series!! I’m a stand up comedian, and this resonates within our community too. I know a bunch of comics who’ve gone on AGT (or auditioned) and they share similar stories, experiences. I was a Top 100 “finalist” on Last Comic Standing back in 2014 and yeah, there’s a LOT the public doesn’t see...

GO beyond, your journey is a total joy to all people across the universe!!!!!

AGT used to actually reward $1 million. When it was new. Then quickly it turned into 20 year annuity. Now, it is 40 years. So you only get $20k/year. Which after tax is like $12k. So yeah, it is a total scam.

    • @castleanthrax1833
      @castleanthrax1833 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah, total scam. You enter a contest, and if you win, they award you the prize that they told you they would, then the government taxes your "income". Complete and total scam. Smh.
Edit: You can't please some people.

First of all, you don't get the full $25k, some is withheld. You then still have to pay full taxes each year on that which is far more than the estimated witholding.
You will notice many coming on the show are foreign now. They don't have to pay as much income tax.
Second, this is about the scam of it not being a real $1mil prize when it takes 40 YEARS to pay it out!

I saw you on Lithuanian got talent. You were very confident and performed well. You did your best genre, "Blues".
You came to America after you won the talent show. So I thought it at least gave you confidence.
I lived in Klaipėda from 1997-2004.
There are world class classical musicians who can't make a living in Lithuania because of the suppressed economy.
Violeta Urmana, (Urmanaviciute) is an exception. She is an Lithuanian Opera singer who has sung main role at Met NYC.
She and her husband celebrated Easter with our family...

yeah, easy for guy who joined talent contest and now has a pretty large audience, telling lesser known artists to not take that route, oh by the way, sign up for my affiliate link! so scammy. Just a video to get you to click their affiliate link. I guess that's what it's all used for in the end. So yea, not worth the effort. Much less desire to follow an artist downing on other people's paths to success while trying to sell me shit. poor form.

They don't steal your content, you are just not allowed to release anything without their permission, input, and control. Because they want to make money off of it. The judges are not the ones creating the contracts, and are often just hired by the show to judge. There may be some like Simon Cowell that have a stake in the show.

The exposure may have been worth before the internet age but now that we have social media and you provide exposure for yourself and own everything you do. I know for a fact that Kelly Clarkson and few others went to court and settled with AM to get released from their contracts. Prince always said to own your own stuff.

A court in Germany actually put into question if these contracts are binding. Case of Liliana, Germany's next top model. She started posting and telling what happened behind the scenes and is officially allowed now, to claim certain things about the show, which her contract explicitly forbid her to talk about. Not everything is set into stone as these TV channels want to make it look like. Good video.

TH-cam can be a business card for artists to find out about them and eventually see them and then there are folks like Døvydas that use it as their primary vehicle. Døvydas' point is these shows are blood sucking monsters, mine was that there are live alternatives to them.

I have a nephew, he auditioned for American Idol, and passed both the Sacramento, and San Francisco, auditions. Next stop Hollywood, to meet Simon, and the crew. Where he sang a song by Prince. The judges liked him, but didn't like his choice of songs, and offered to give him a coach to try and change his image. My nephew said; no thank you!
But before leaving my dad, brother, and other nephew joined him on stage to perform a barbershop quartet song, which the judges really enjoyed. Whether my nephew knows it or not saying no was the best lifetime decision that he may ever have to make.

I’d like to know if they give preferences to those with a better “sad story.” It’s become so redundant how these contestants each have some tragic event or circumstances to provoke sympathy from the audience and television viewers. Guessing there’s a line in the paperwork, “Please describe the saddest event you’ve experienced.”

You sign up and your image, name, characterization, performances, intellectual property related to the artist contract, and ALL your appearances are owned/controlled aa well.
You can quit, but they are completely in their legal right to replace you with look alike while you're paying elsewhere.

I remember seeing a video by someone who managed to invent a sob story that was sad enough that he got picked.
And he kind of managed to get to the finals before he got discovered (I think it was the British version).
It also feels like they're searching for a specific type of victim *eh* talent. One that can be 'coached' into doing what the record company wants.
Actual talented people are far too difficult to manage, because (as you say) they will jump ship if they find a better deal.
The ones that have just enough talent to do what they want, but not enough to get ideas above their station are what they really need.

People aren't very smart an average: Friend of mine was writing a book, and were looking for publisher online. He found one, which were recommended to him by the some other friends. He was quite pumped up about this corporation, so because he ask, I go their homepage and read their standard contract: "The author/writer hands over all his rights to this material by this agreement, and get 0,x$ fee per sold book". So you if wrote a top selling book, you give away all your rights to your own work, and get 0,x$ per sold copy? While they get xx$ per copy + everything from the movie rights, from ancillary products etc. What if J. K. Rowling would have sign this kind of publishing deal? 🤣

    Truth being told here.
The Voice judges get paid around 13M per season. No wonder Blake and Gwen are both on there, that is quite a dual income! Meanwhile, the winner of The Voice gets a paltry 100K, and of course the record contract that even Blake Shelton acknowledges is crap.
I really liked last year's Voice winner Girl Named Tom. Too bad they made a deal with the Devil. These shows suck their contestants dry, discard them, and move on to the next one...

@@Asshat237 No comparison. When someone goes on a talent show, they know the pros and cons or should. Things aren't always fair and square. Many of the acts benefit from just getting the exposure. They often show up somewhere.

That all really sucks! It’s a wonder they can even get artists for these shows! I listen to your music on Amazon. Spontaneity is everything. Those moments serve to endear the Artist io their audience.

I went to college for commercial music and media. My teacher Mr. Anderson, a trombone player, educated us on the shady nature of the entertainment industry, broke down all our copyrights, contracts, licenses, and pretty much shattered all the dreams of his students who thought they would have a career in this industry. It's corrupt, and the laws are barely catching up to protecting artists. Songwriters and original works are either ignored completely, or they try to devour you and possess you. All recordings are digital now. The warmth to the music is less and less. Now we got AI making art images... i just don't see a happy future for humans entertaining other humans. It's sad, but there's far more restrictions in this industry than any other. It's a cult in my humble opinion. Grammy U recruits new members out of the college ranks each year....

Psychologically those type of shows demotivate young people who now think they can never be as good as contestants.

So watching this was very enlightening. I'm a 50 something DJ/karaoke guy. I loved to sing. But over the last three years because of COVID, my health and old system. Which was top notch in the 2007-2016 era but now not so good. Even tho my makes are cool. (They don't make them anymore. Fire at factory.) So plus my voice isn't as strong as it used to be. But anyway, I'm thinking of doing a TH-cam show for older people to watch. Please let me know how to do it. If I can make a little bit of money singing karaoke songs by overweight people. Maybe I can help encourage others like me to sing. That was my greatest joy. Watching someone who was self conscious and watch them blossom in one song. Made my day.

yes! do a follow up! i know you can't get the into the dark side of the music business on this platform. just like Hollyweird's dark side of the movie/ TV business. i really feel for these talented singers on these shows who want fame so bad and i know how much it will cost them in the music industry. much better to follow your advice. Taj Farrant is doing his own thing with his dad as manager and is doing well, as an example. keep playing and doing your thing. Both of you rock. 💗

This extremely important to pull the band-aid off the infection of fake musical talent shows. Its not about being real it about setting up a fake environment that people find entertaining. Its like a beauty contest in which the which is proclaim the most beautiful person in a state, country, or world. Yea like they compared them to every person in the world to determine it. Its all about money and fantasy entertainment in the most wrong way where the person that is proclaim by the producers in the background and the judges are charged with making that choice look like theirs and is real. Its pretty ugly. Maybe you should pull questions out of the comments and do a show of taking the questions and answering them. I really like this show. Breaking the chains of illusions (name of a old book) is a to get to what is real and really valuable like you guys. Thanks!

Talents shows are a business & like EVERY business is "Run for Profit" where the worker (the talent) MUST be paid less than the worth of your product so the company can make a profit. Simon Cowell would not be making all these shows if he wasn't getting richer off of the blood, sweat & tears of the people that go on these shows. While the best might get a contract & make some money most will get nothing & for "Entertainment Value" talentless performers will be aired so they can be mocked for the amusement of the viewers & l feel genuine sympathy for them as they go home broken & dejected instead of encouraged to continue trying in a more realist way, ie street performance, community shows or hospital/retirement shows.
