We had our first successful speckled trout trip this weekend. We landed both speckled and white trout. Our 5 year old daughter landed her 1st trout ever. It was an exciting time. If you ask her, Daddy had a rough day lol, with his women out fishing him. Thanks for sharing all your information!!! I always read the comments too, we can never learn enough. To anyone on the fence regarding his website, 100% recommend. The course comes highly recommended from my husband and I can't wait to sign up myself soon.
You are a leader sir. You set a very high standard for your videos. Each one I watch gets better and better. To have the opportunity to catch a 20 inch trout is an beautiful thing. Like you have said before”speckled trout like these are too valuable to only be caught once”. You are very correct. Fish like these are special. I have had the amazing opportunity to catch many trout over 20 and release them. To me there is no better feeling seeing her swim away. I fish Sabine lake on the Texas and Louisiana border. Sadly most people here catch and kill. It makes me happy to see someone promoting the future for our fisheries. I look to start logging my trout on the website as well. Keep up the phenomenal work captain Devin. Your videos are truly some of the best and make everyone better fisherman. Thank you.
Great video bringing awareness to an important resource. The respect you show the fish/fishery is right on point. Thanks for being a great rep for our LA fishery.
What a fine contribution to speckled trout conservation. Thank you for all you do Devin, including your great videos and online classes on how to improve your fishing skills.
Loving the content, the added music and drone shots really bring it all together. Thanks for making the video to bring awareness, with your platform, hopefully the mindset changes
Great content Devin! I think some of it is awareness about release over 20 but also a mix of the old Louisiana mentality of “ keep EVERYTHING you catch”, some of the new age “gotta get that tailgate pic for the likes”. As well as changes to the estuary. Keep up the good work and thank you for spreading the word!
Hey my brother, just started watching your vids. Were're in Port Sulpher this weekend in search of the elusive specald trout. I have fished in Louisiana waters since I was able to hold a cane pole and I have never had the pleasure of catching so many mule trout in my life. Amazing, Me Cher
On days I am targeting them I am. But if they're caught accidentally did you really catch it or did you just get lucky? Wouldn't you want to be so good at fishing you can catch what you want based on the conditions?
You handled that situation with the dude poaching on your area you were actively fishing a whole lot better than I would have. I really wish in order to acquire fishing license there be a mandatory fishing and boating etiquette course before receiving the license. Great video man I really enjoy binging your content.
I've only caught a couple of specks over 20" since I started kayak fishing 11 years ago. I've had a few in the 18 to 20" range. Your video has motivated me to photograph and release my bigger trout from now on! My fishing success has recently kept my freezer full (sheepshead and reds are preferred) and I will gladly release the larger speckled trout. Thanks for the info!
Thank you for bringing awareness to the Release Over 20 project. We have never heard of this before and coming from an already abused bay system we know full well the impact of over harvesting. My husband has been guiding in Galveston Bay since 1995 and he tells stories of how great the fishing "use to be." We plan to move your way soon and will do our part in the Release Over 20 project. Thanks again. BTW....we love your videos!
I’m a fairly new subscriber. Enjoy your videos. What got my attention is your passion for Release over 20. I don’t keep any fish but love the idea to encourage others to at least release those that will produce more fish. Anyway, just wondering why you don’t use single line hooks vice treble hooks if the idea is to protect the fish and do less harm? I’m pretty confident that your hook up ratio will not diminish. If anything, you will catch less dinks.
Yeah, like mentioned, I had never heard of the program. Thanks for sharing and I'm sure this video will help bump our numbers. I do think the mentality of letting some of the bigger fish go is starting to change here, albeit slowly. Great video Dev! You handled your boy in the other boat great, was cracking up, I don't think I would have been so nice.
Devin I didn't know such a thing of Release over 20 existed. I ve released 2 20 inch trout in the past month. I thought that was only a thing you and Todd personally did so I started doing it. Ok... I will start taking pictures and submitting them. Thanks!
Earlier this Spring I had quite a few hammers from the Trestles that exceeded 20 inches, possibly woulda been good idea to release em and the ultra-cool part was my Igloo had plenty of "hash" marks as I was measuring every fish just to see how log they were and the farthest "hash" marks happened to be over 22 inches, meaning a few dem Trestles studs exceded 20!!
LDWF need to make a slot on Specks with keeping only one over the slot and also lower the daily limit. You will see an increase in trout #’s as a result.
Great video. Awareness may be the problem. I wasn’t even aware of this program. I have for number of years released larger speckled trout and also taken on only taking what I feel I am going to eat. If friends and family are eating I may take at a limit. I have learned over the years that ego and numbers leads to a lot of waste.
Hi Devin, thanks for the informative video. I am a relatively young angler by Louisiana standards, and I was wondering about the speckled trout fishery 10-15 years ago as you said. I fished during this time but I was not paying attention to the fishery. Has the fishery changed for all types of anglers? I am talking about the popping cork with live shrimp vs the more skillful jigging anglers that work to find fish. From your experience what exactly changed, and any ideas what caused it?
The fishing back then was phenomenally better than what it has been. We had a bunch of river water due to unusually wet seasons over a period of ten years. Did you not see the multiple spillway openings? The river flooding through the summer? This combined with fishing pressure did a number on the speckled trout.
It’s quite shocking how many people benefit from the resources provided by large trout who don’t put effort into sustaining that very resource. CPR will get you and the fishery far.
I think it's important to not handle the fish so much if you gonna release it too. Hope the 20" release catches on but don't beat fish up to bad so it has best chance to survive
Why not take time to learn how to locate fish? That's what I teach. A really good course that is FREE I strongly suggest is Elements of Effective Fishing: www.lafbelite.com/course/eoef/
I'm certainly an outsider but I doubt that the reason LA has so few over 20 released documented isn't the program's lack of popularity. I believe it's the limit of 25 per person at the 12 inch minimum size. What harm would come to the fishery if the limit was reduced to half and minimum size increased to 15 inches?
fishing both Louisiana and Mississippi. I personally see a difference. ive released easily 10 in Miss. waters this fall/winter with none in louisiana albeit definitely more fish in la. not the quality of Miss.

I'm glad to hear you guys had an awesome trip. Memories were made. That's what it is all about. Thank you so much!
Love this message. I already do the same here in Texas. Conservation is the key to a healthy population for all anglers to enjoy!

Thank you so much, Coby!! I appreciate your kind words!
That water clarity is what dreams are made of!!
Wow, I'm so glad to learn about the over 20 initiative and how it helps the fishery! Thanks for the great education!!

I appreciate that!

How have I never seen this video, beautiful water and trout.
I like that net.
I'd be over the moon with these redfish catches 😩😆

@@LAFishBlog some ppl say they rather be lucky than good. If I catch em, I'm telling my friends I'm good, even if I'm lucky 🤣

Best fishing channel hands down
I try. I make a genuine effort. Thanks for noticing.
I have doubled up on speckle trout but never redfish. Also I have never heard about fishing mullet rafts for specs but I will be trying it.

Lorenda, thank you so much! I absolutely agree. Conservation begins in the hearts and minds of individual anglers.
I'm moving down there from Virginia. I'll show yall how to do the Release Over 20. 😁
Great video and info Capt!

GREAT SHOW SIR... ALSO THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE SIR...
Still amazing for me to see how clean the water is these days. The marsh is the healthiest I’ve seen it in a long time.

Outstanding video and made me a believer in the release over 20. Keep up the great work.

Could you do a video on how you clean and oil your reels especially being you fish saltwater and I'm just curious how those reels are holding up
Mike, that's a great suggestion and I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for watching.
Great production in this video. Bar is high.
Much appreciated!
Great video
12:15 🤣🤣🤣🤣💀 I would’ve just asked him to move!!! 🤣🤣 great video Captain Devin!!

Not from la but tx I love your videos I fish in the Galveston area but keep up the great work

Glad it was helpful!
Larger trout are wall mounts, but with taxidermy these days, a pic and measurements are all you need!
Smaller trout taste batter anyway!
100%
What’s your pb trout?

Where at in Louisiana is this?
Gonna have to start slapping my stickers at the marinas 😂

If you haven't listened to Speckled Truth's podcast about handling fish then you really need to.
Especially those who use a towel/rag to hold each and EVERY trout caught…removes protective slime!!!🤬🤬
If you don’t mind me asking where were you fishing at? I’m in Houma close to cocodrie,Dulac,Pointe aux chene.
