This is so true!! When my dog was a pup, i spoke with a couple that told me st bernies were quiet lazy dogs that slept all day. That couldn't have been further from the truth! Lol
I loved watching this video. And the music you included really resonated with me. I'm from the UK and have never heard of Diiv before so thank you for opening my ears. Best wishes Shila.
You’re so good with him and he loves you. They are one of the most affectionate breeds. Loved this video and he actually looked like our Saint that past a few years back.🐕🥰👍
Thank you for loving our giant Saints. You are so kind, patient and sweet to Hank. I watched a video of a groomer yelling at a Saint for drooling on her 🙁
I find that using a rubber bath brush helps a lot to make sure their coats are clean from debris. Especially on their paws, face, chest, and bottom/tail areas.
I appreciated your video much. The music was cute at first, but it got little in the way of you speaking. You're pretty dang good with your scissors! If I decide to try it...I will definitely give ya a pic of my "scalping". Lol!!...true. Good job and thanks.
OUTSTANDING : o ........ I think you have just converted me from Not Having A Dog of any Breed - to - Being a Parent of one : ) ........ Peace on Earth FOREVER : ) .......
Hi I really enjoyed the video.I learnt a lot about nail clipping. Unfortunately the background music was way too loud and I couldn't hear her tips with the music. Shame!!.overall good video and lovely dog. Thanks😊
Annnnnnd that ladies and gentlemen is why you should tip your groomer well, especially with a large breed such as ours the video is about 30 minutes with lots of fast forwarding going on so I guess it was really more like 3 hours. Shila you did and excellent job and Hank you were awesome too buddy! I've recently gotten my 6th Saint his name is Boo Boo Bear and he is 16weeks old now and 46.2Lbs but that was as of last Thursday so I'm sure he is close to 50Lbs. by now. Anyway he is going for his very first spa day today, to the same groomer who took care of his big brother Sasha Bear. Someone further down asked how often to bathe them and over the course of being owned by 6 Saints I have found that every two months seems to do the trick and their skin never gets dried up. Anyway OUTSTANDING job young lady I can tell you enjoy what you do and it shows by how much your client loves you!
So we are very rural, our Saint is mostly outdoors. Or laundry room. Because she loves swimming and being a Saint all over the farm. She’s 3 1/2 and I just got onto a roster for a mobile groomer (my dog hates traveling in cars and the closest groomers with openings are at least an hour one way) and her very first appt in next week. We bathe her through the summer. And only if necessary in the winter. We clip out matting behind her ears as needed. And brush brush brush all spring to help get the undercoat gone so she can cool down in the summer. All that info, because pricing. The charge is $300 for the gal to come out. She operates 100% out of her bus-type office. She’s traveling about 30 minutes from where she lives. I’m usually a pro tipper. My husband sucks at it. Lol. But what would you tip? Our Saint is a true gentle giant. She falls asleep on my lap, snoring when I brush her or snip at her little matted spots. She does great with the vet. I’m sure she’ll be easy to handle. There’s not a lot of info on tipping courtesies for groomers. And she did say it would take at least 2 hours. But didn’t want to give a better time estimate since it’s our first meet and greet. Any insight?
@@melodyarnold2058 Not knowing how big she is how or how dirty she may be it is really hard to answer the question. Having said that Saints typically are good for the grooming if they have been "trained" meaning that they have been brushed, combed blown dry etc.... at home with someone they trust 3.5 years is pretty old to get started for the first time and she may react differently then my boys who I always started day one that they came home. Having said all that $300 even for coming to you is in my humble opinion an awful lot to pay even for a mobile groomer which I have used in the past but they come in vans around here and when I lived up north and I was never really happy nor were my saints so I stopped using the mobile groomers, not to mention about half the price that you are being charged. 20% would be $60 which given the price being charged seems more than reasonable but it depends on how much work she has to do or that you want done. Personally I'd do my best to find a place in town where you do your shopping and plan a whole day around it I'm sure it would be a lot less doing it that way. FYI: My groomer will be charging me once Boo Boo gets his big boy body $75 - 85 per visit and I'll tip them $20-30 depnding on how much he needs done, but mine is an indoor dog except for his walks and trips to the puppy park which I clean him up from after we leave. My saints get a bath and blown dry, paws trimmed and nails dremeled not clipped. I also have them shave the inside of the ears to help them keep aired out and at least a few times a year I have them trim up the back of the front legs and his back legs get thinned out about twice a year. Hope this was helpful and Happy New Year!
I have a Saint Bernard and a Great Pyrenees and both are very difficult to bathe but today they both are getting baths so I’m hoping that this video will help me out a lot
Tina Carney, my soaps are all diluted. Water is in the soaps. But wetting down the dogs do help spread the soap even better. I buy them in gallons and they are all very concentrated.
Haha i st bernard are such lovable dogs, but sometimes its hard for them to turn their love off. My st bernie has nearly knocked me down with trying to lick and jump all over me. He means no harm, but I dont really know how to make him stop without yelling at him. I dont want to yell at him because he's only doing what mans best friend does and I certainly dont want him to think what he is doing is "bad" per say. Any suggestions? I know this is a grooming video and you did and amazing job btw!
@@ccap3211 mine is aggressive as well, but of course not to me or my family. He's not cujo aggressive tho lol. Once he gets acquainted with someone, he becomes a pretty nice guy. He's just really big on being the protector
@@cierramoten5179 I’ve never let mine get acquainted with anyone before bc he’s so aggressive and it just scares me. I imagine he would warm up to certain people after awhile but idk for sure. I have to muzzle him to take him to the vet. He barks and lunges and growls at everyone. My dad came over to meet him and he barked and growled at first and then stopped so my dad tried to pet his head before I could stop him and he tried to bite his hand. He’s only 10 months. He’s the first Saint I’ve ever had and I definitely didn’t expect him to be like this. I love him more than anything but he’s super stressful!
@@ccap3211 oh for sure it can be terrifying! When you think of st bernard u think of nice giant gentle creatures, beethoven type. But sometimes it just doesnt go that route. Whats even more scary are the 1s that understand their strength. Those are massive dogs with incredible power and if not trained properly, it can get ugly. My bernie is aggressive, but he has finally gotten to the point where he's a great listener. I can literally leave my gate open to take out my trash and he'll stay put. If he think he's going to lunge at someone i shout to him to settle down and he immediately heels and stay put. Its all about being able to have that control. St bernards are very smart dogs and great listeners, just do your best to stay on top of training him & make sure he understands that you are the one in control
@@petgroomingbyshila6332 I'm afraid he'll rip the toilet or whatever right off the floor/walls... He does not approve of any type of grooming, I get to brush about a square inch at the time while he's sleeping...
Try to get them into the bath tub before turning on the water put some peanut butter (or a treat they like) onto the bathtub wall then distract them with the treat while you get the water the right temperature
Thats the kind of person you want looking after your dog. That Saint loves her!

I like walking my St. Bernard because I feel like such a chad
I always thought that you were supposed to keep water out of dogs ears?
If you were going to run a clip comb on the bottom instead of hand scissoring which size would you use?
How often should you wash your dog, and does it dry their skin out?😊

Double for sure

That’s what the owner wants
