I also get the Dr. Berg’s electrolyte powders. I’ve ordered LMNT several times also and liked the taste of it a lot. But, no thanks! Throwing it out. I watched Dr. Berg’s video of the iodine test. I had the copy cat powder of his on hand still and it must have a lot of maltodextrin because it turned really purple. Good info to have. Thanks.

Good job, as usual. I just take a magnesium tablet every day! Get plenty of salt when i eat. I've never had any issues with my electrolytes, thank goodness!
My late wife was deathly allergice to corn. Maltodextrin, natural flavors and natural colors are all made from corn. Eat as clean as possible. And that 1gm of sodium is a whole days' worth. You can probably do half that in your drink. You will get the rest during the course of the day.
Yes, most people are either allergic or sensitive to corn. I understand completely... Clean is the best. On keto, you need somewhere between 3 to 5 g per day, which is definitely much higher than what is commonly told
Need more than 1000mg a day lol I salt generously n always have. Plus do salt & potassium in water on fasts. I used to drink salted water all the time tho. Bad adrenals.
Your channel just popped up for me today and I have been binge watching your videos. I saw your previous electrolyte video then came across this one. I’m curious why you went from Magnesium Glycinate to Malate There are so many different Magnesiums it gets confusing on which one to use. Also, why did you drop the potassium from 1000mg to 310mg?
Awesome! So glad you found me! I changed the types of magnesium because I feel that more people will be drinking them during the day and glycinate has more of a calming effect whereas malate has more of an energizing effect. They both absorb really easily. Glycinate can also have and effect on the stomach which is good overnight, but not so good during the day, necessarily 🤣 💩 I dropped the potassium just to be more in line with what people might need if they do two to three of these a day. A thousand is too much if you do multiples a day. I really appreciate you watching 😁
My MD and Dietitian showed me how to use Morton Lite Salt which contains all of the necessary electrolyte minerals. (I already take a magnesium supplement.) I add 1/2 teaspoon to 12 ounces of water, lemon juice, and monk fruit sweetener or stevia. Four simple ingredients. I drink up to four daily. It helped me through the Keto flu. They told me not to be concerned about adjusting the mineral balance as it was already done by Morton and your body will uptake the minerals it needs whether you’re on a ketogenic diet or using it as an athletic supplement. Much less expensive than highly marketed $$$ electrolyte crystals or bottled electrolyte drinks.
I'll have to look into that! I'm not a fan of their salt and how they strip the minerals out of it as well as their iodine that the body can't really use, but I love doing some research! Thank you so much! 😁
Dr. Berg did a video on how to test for maltodextrin a very long time ago it is probably where Steve got his information from. In Dr. Bergs video, he tested his own plus some other brands.
@southernketo I understand, but if you would watch Dr. Berg videos, he's been sounding the alarm on maltodextrin for a long time. I don't know about the flavor you have, but the one that I have from Dr. Berg, the words "natural flavors" aren't listed. So nowhere for maltodextrin to be hidden
@@alicem6420I don't really have time to watch a ton of videos because I work full time and also have the TH-cam channel which pretty much takes up my free time... No, it is listed as "raspberry flavor" and "lemon flavor" with no mention of natural or artificial. So you really don't know what's in it and with labeling laws, since this is considered a supplement and not a good product, they don't have to. And I'm fine with that as long as no hidden maltodextrin 😁

Or, if it doesn't affect you, just use it. Can't remember if you said it spiked your blood sugar or not... So glad you love the pumpkin spice! I love it so much 😁 take care! 😁
I would multiply all the amounts by 30 and put it in a blender and powder it. In order to combine correctly, all the parts need to be the same size. Then you would just put that in the water and add your sweetener everyday
If this helps - I purchased, I think they are .5 oz, condiment containers from Amazon they came in a 12 pack. I fill them at one time then I can just pop them open each day to add to my water. That way I didn’t have to measure everyday or worry about getting the right amount.
I usually just mix up one in the morning and just sip on it, unless I'm working and then I might do two to three a day. Depending on how further towards carnivore you go, you may need 2 a day. Just drink when you're thirsty and when you have the right amount of electrolytes, you don't have to worry about how much water you're drinking.
Thanks Victor! Just to be clear, the three drops of iodine are added to your everyday electrolyte drink and are not added in this video JUST to test for the presence of maltodextrin? Thanks again!
I make my “hot cocoa” using the chocolate vital proteins collagen (28g, about 4 T. ) in 6 oz. hot water and 2 oz. heavy cream, 1 T. of my homemade caramel syrup (made w/ allulose instead of sugar) and an electrolyte packet - though I will be making my own now thanks to this video. If you want a stronger cocoa flavor, you can add a bit of unsweetened cocoa. A milk frother comes in handy to make the mixing less tedious and creamier.
@southernketo Your channel is amazing, helpful, and insightful. I was hoping a website would offer some one on one help. Keep up the great work. You have a fan!
What about the flavored keto energy drinks...the ones that help boost ketones. The ones I have tried are KETOVITA, K-ENERGY, and KETOCUTS?? Can you do a video on those...and whether they contain any maltodextrin?? The KETOVITA is the most expensive...but it does boost my ketosis. I am curious because I have never heard anyone mention them on the channels I subscribe to for keto...
I'm just not a fan of exogenous ketones. Your body can make ketones on its own. It doesn't really boost your ketosis, it just adds ketones on top of what your body is naturally doing. That's just my opinion, though...
Have you ever tried the Magic Bakers by Splenda? My son is not Keto and he cannot tell the difference between things I make with that and regular sugar. Those ones that I recommend don't taste chemically either. I don't like any of the chemical sweeteners like aspartame or acesulfame potassium or saccharine. I don't recommend honey, because it is sugar. Actually spikes your blood sugar worse than regular sugar does
Funny that you tested Dr. Eric Berg's product, he's the main influencer against maltodextrin, and he did a video on how to test for it way before Steve did his video. His products do not have maltodextrin in them. And my comment was made before you tested his product.
Well, of course I wanted to test it. Several people have reached out to his customer service and couldn't get a straight answer on if it contained maltodextrin or not. I wanted to find out for myself, since my wife uses it. It's not unusual for products to change their ingredients over time and not mention the change. Hmmm, maybe like LMNT. What comment did you make?
I personally don’t understand why people are drinking electrolytes daily? I drink 7-8 glasses of water a day. Plenty of protein, fruit, fibre & veg. That’s enough for healthy electrolytes in the body. If you’re an athlete, or been ill, then I can understand. A lot of $$$ spent that isn’t really necessary.
If you are doing keto or low carb, your body flushes out more water and sodium. Without as much insulin because of the lack of sugar in the blood, the kidneys will get rid of potassium and magnesium. These need to be replenished or you'll get dehydrated , which is what some people refer to as the keto flu. Muscle cramps, headaches, lack of energy. Water doesn't actually hydrate you. The only water I drink is with electrolytes. I don't get thirsty when I'm hydrated properly.
@ I’m super low carb because of my type 2. None of my blood work in 2 years has ever shown a deficiency. But I do take supplements. Magnesium, B vitamin complex, vitamin D, fish oil and enhanced collagen.
