You can mow even grass on sides of your fields. Or in this case use plow to join the fields or widen them to the edges, to gain easier moving with hired hands and bigger yield. And mowers can be set to row, not spread, so next step will be bailing without any need for windrowing.
Grass does have 2 ready to harvest states. The second is longer and does increase the yield. It isn't much of a muchness though as you get 3 cuts a year compared to 4 so it averages out in total amount of literage over a year. Just 1 less cut, windrow and baling to do.

This is a good point, I double often do double cuts when i am playing to save a bit of time bailing
