Its got nothing to do with money, most doctors already make good income (hard earned too, we dedicate decades of our life to study, missing birthday parties, and important events, like my grandmother, uncle and grandfather who was like my dad). I'm sure it helps with certain conditions, but depending on the severity of the condition a little puff here and there is not gonna make a big difference, some people need continous oxygen, otherwise they become hypoxic, in those cases, using something like this would be the equivalent of trying to put out a forest fire with a bucket.

We as humans are running at far below 90%

    • @SCSlimBoiseID

The doctor was referring to a percentage of oxygen concentration (saturation of the hemogobin molecules with O2) in the blood as compared to the blood's theoretical ability to be 100% saturated. This number is sometimes referred to as the SPO2. Most people can function with an SPO2 of 90%. Some people with COPD exist with lower levels, say - 85%, and it actually can be difficult to get their SPO2 up into the 90s. People who live at high altitudes might have SPO2s in the low to mid 90s, not because there's anything wrong with their blood's ability to bind oxygen to hemoglobin, but because the partial pressure of oxygen at higher altitudes is lower than it is closer to sea level. If you were to bring a high-altitude person (say, someone who lives in the mountains at 10,000 feet above sea level) down to the beach and measure his/her SPO2 when they arrived at the beach, it would very likely be at 100% without any deep-breathing involved. Conversely, take a person who lives near the beach and transport them to that 10,000 foot-high cabin in the mountains and they might find it difficult to achieve an SPO2 of 85%, the reason being that their blood is adapted to absorbing oxygen at the higher partial pressure available at sea level - it has enough hemoglobin to handle that task at that low altitude. When they reach a higher altitude, they amount of hemoglobin available in their bloodstream may be insufficient to absorb oxygen from the lower partial pressure atmospheric environment. If they stay at altitude for a few days or weeks, their body will make additional red blood cells ( which contain hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying molecule) and thereby adapt to the higher altitude. After some time, they will have SPO2 readings similar to the full-time high-altitude dweller. This is a simplified explanation of SPO2. The information is not secret, so due dilligence and research can yield more information. One could also ask a doctor or nurse.

Not sure what makes you think that, I am a doctor and I can careless if you spend your money on things like this, its your money not mine. What the pulmonologist is refering to, is for the general person, its not gonna make a difference because our body is able to extract its needs from the environment. If you have a condition like COPD, you need continous Oxygen, not a little can like this, not gonna help a whole lot when you need a lot of flow to go in.
