Hi Will, This is a 1975 model. One of the last made by Westinghouse Electric before being acquired by White Consolidated, the sewing machine company, later in 1975.
Thanks so much for the confirmation. It's been the biggest mystery to me of the exact year of this unit. I got a bit uncomfortable not knowing the year to be honest. So this youtuber "Jordan U" acquired a 1976 White Westinghouse. The video I'll be sharing the link to will show that it appears to be a transition model. It has both the new and the old W name on the control panel. The unit has a Bendix in it too which is interesting. I wonder how long WCI used the Bendix compressors before using Tecumseh compressors and eventually switching over to rotary compressors. So here's the video of the unit. What led you to that conclusion? I'm curious about how the serials work on these old Westys, as I do original research on serial numbers by comparing them to the date codes on other parts of the units (compressor, cap, etc). I believe the date of mfg on these is encoded in the letters at the beginning of the serial, but I would like some insight on that. thanks
@@willthetrill4849 This is indeed a transitional model made just after White Consolidated acquired the Westinghouse Electric home appliance division in late 1975. The compressor was made by Westinghouse Electric not Bendix-Westinghouse. Two different companies. These compressors were known in the trade as "flat tops". At this point in time, late 1975, early 1976, these window units were still being made in the Westinghouse Electric plant and production hasn't yet moved to the White Consolidated plant. BTW, that compressor sounds bad. These Westinghouse Electric 'flat top" compressors usually run much quieter than this. That compressor is working hard. It almost sounds like the unit is overcharged or there is a restriction in one of the lines.

@@CompactHVAC The manufacturing date code is cross referenced in the applicable Westinghouse Electric service manual.
