Agree w/ pretty much all points in the video. Own a 23 V60 Recharge, it is THE do it all vehicle. I have been averaging 106mpg and haven't had to gas up in 1400mi. It also goes like a stabbed rat when you punch it. Topher pretty much covered everything I like about this platform. Couple points regarding the video: - 2.9 OTA just got pushed, which makes it possible to adjust between Pilot Assist and traditional ACC with the left steering wheel button which is a welcome functionality add. - 2.9 also made Carplay maps work with the cluster. Huge if you use it. - Note on the battery, Volvo definitely understates the electric range. In warm weather, above 70F I'm getting a consistent 48-50mi. Negative points, mostly with drive mode Hybrid: - The feature that was mentioned about the navigation adjusting vehicle efficiency settings (Predictive Efficiency) occasionally disables itself mid drive leaving you doing 70mph on battery. - Moreover, Predictive Efficiency only works if your destination is exceeding your battery range. So if your destination is 41mi, you go to it, but on the way back you have to use Gas because you used all your battery. This would be solved if Predictive Efficiency was on at all times in Hybrid mode. As it stands Hybrid mode just uses your battery essentially all the time unless your floor it, so you can coast on the highway 70mph and it'll still be on battery mode. It should be on highways or past a certain speed goes to gas, otherwise battery only. -Important for anyone tracking: The 114mph limiter is real and will actively limit revs way below this speed. It starts limiting when you get to 100mph, couldn't get it to go past 4.5k. In 3700mi it has been dead reliable, only time will tell though how many electronic gremlins will present themselves.
3,700 miles is too early for anything to fail even in an unreliable car. The real “magic” with these starts right before the end of the warranty period and past that. Great car if you are just leasing it though.
Is anybody modifying or tuning this powertrain in the US? the regular T6 powertrain (without the battery) see really good gains. I'd be interested to see if the top speed limiter can be removed too.
Pro tip on predictive efficiency. Put your starting point as destination and your actual destination as intermediary. That way it will do it for the round trip. Also you have to use the built in google maps navigation.
Topher is the best because, unlike other review channels, he drives from the perspective of the everyday driver. Can't stand other channels judging cars based on taking corners at 60mph and the 0-60 times.
I own a 2020 S60 T8 Inscription plug-in which is pretty much the same as this except it has those additional buttons that have since been removed and larger infotainment text. It’s the greatest car I’ve ever had the privilege of owning, just hit 20K miles on it and it is my baby. It’s made me a Volvo fan for life. Best plug-in on the market for the price, hands-down. Luxurious interior and driving experience.
I have the 2022 S60 Recharge Black Edition, I had the windows tinted to 20, so they are quite dark. So its really black on black now. Then I had the Polestar Engineered software installed 😊. I get 51-52 miles electric, the handling improved drastically, and I get an average of 120mpg. Can't beat this for a daily driver.
I have the 2022 S60 Recharge Black Edition as well. I absolutely love this car! It is so much fun to drive! I hate that I missed the full Google Maps though. How did you get the Polestar software?
Broooo that sound system sounds amazing!!! And I know it sounds better in person, because you naturally lose some quality through the mic, and it still sounds amazing!
You'll be happy to know that in the latest software updates that just came out, 2.9, the right steering wheel button the left side can now switch between regular adaptive cruise and pilot assist.
Seriously considering putting a deposit down on a V60 Recharge T8 Polestar (only trim option available here) because I love this powertrain and the look of the V60.. This video is a great resource!
I have always loved the S60 ever since it first launched. With this new black series is even more gorgeous looking. Glad that Volvo still continue to make this model because i think the S60 is a great car and should get more recognition!! Thanks for another great review 👍🏼😉
BMW fanboy here. Ive just had test drive in the new bmw 3, mercedes cclass. After the dissapointment, and watching this video, i gave this volvo a chance and... Im geting mine ant the end of November 😍 I just loved it after test drive.
Curious how the reliability has changed in ditching the superchargers. I've heard terrible things about the reliability of the prior super/turbo charged vehicles.
We had a XC90 T6 since new that’s the supercharger and turbo for 5 years. It’s now at 50k miles and we’ve had no issues besides a check engine light during the first 5k miles that was solved with a software update. Other than that just regular maintenance and tires. The infotainment is laggy at start up but that’s solved by unlocking the car as you’re walking up. Other than that no issues
I rented an A5 sportback for a week, convinced I was going to buy an Audi. Dropped it off feeling a little… underwhelmed. Did some more research, watched your reviews, went and test drove the S60R… ordered one.
I love these cars and that powertrain. Currently drive an Arteon but wanting a bit more power. I'd rather this than a BMW or Audi because as a daily, more comfortable, quieter and the sound systems in Volvo's are incredible.
Thanks guys, I do love the Arteon. I'm tuned with APR and it is somewhat fast. But I think hyrbid power is the best of all worlds. I've always wanted a Volvo.
You're saying that Volvos are more comfortable and quieter than Audis and BMWs? Interesting, reviews here on youtube suggest otherwise, never had a chance to compare myself though.
You talk a bit fast and trail off with volume on occasion. Otherwise I very much like how you did your review. It's a good, quality video. I'm an older driver/racer so I don't need to be talked down to or treat as if I'm a neophyte. You don't do that. You also drive the car. I have a 2024 with the Polestar option. My other DD is a 2017 BMW 440i X. I love Polestar mode! You're the first to turn on the fantastic stereo! Thanks for a review that jives very well with my thoughts!
Savage Gueese is always killing Volvo on its ride quality yet you are in Michigan and say that this Volvo rides well. Volvo has been doing this car a long time and they've probably got the refinement down now.
Is the Ultimate edition the only one that comes with the heads up display, with this awesome seats? I can't seem to find that on core or plus models for 2023?
It should’ve be that hard to remove. It is essentially a value to change. Only problem is that the menu is locked. I am not from Germany, but I am am considering the change since I drive quite a few times a year in Germany.
how does that work with just kicking the motor on during highway use, if the motor is still cold wouldn't that cause damage? or do they have some kind of motor heating function while driving in preparation for it to kick on
Last year I needed to order a new car. So my final options were BMW 330e (touring), Mercedes C300e, BMW i4 or Volvo V60 T6 recharge. In the end I chose the Volvo. I do drive around 60k km a year. The BMW 330e has less power, bad seats, small fuel tank and small battery, but it has better driving dynamics. The Mercedes has a big battery, but the trunk suffers, good comfort and good power. The BMW i4 was really nice, but 2 years delivery time and electric still has some serious downsides. The Volvo hasn’t got the best infotainment or ultimate grip or pleasure, but for me it is a car where I have to spend often 6 hours a day in. Range, comfort and performance wears the winning combination.
When you say 455 horsepower, is it actually 455 horsepower at once, or the 315ish + 140ish separately; either you get 315 with the gasoline motor or you're in EV mode and you're getting 140?
The T8 will actually allow you to use 455hp at once, although it doesn’t feel quite like 455hp (weight). The T6 (same engine, different software) limits the total power to 350hp.
@@zeedustrakok Interesting. I appreciate your response. Do you think it even feels like 400hp? I test drove a fully charged T8 Recharge last year and it felt noticeably less powerful than my 2015 3.0L T6, which is why I was thinking it was 315 or 140, not both. Deff didn't feel like 455 hp in my opinion.
@@panjoshua6251 Honestly: my reference for what 400hp feels like is quite limited. I only did a short drive in the T8, my main tests were the T6 (350hp and 659 nm instead of 455hp and 709nm). The T6 feels way faster than a Kia EV6 AWD (325hp). The T8 felt quite comparable to a polestar 2 dual motor with a bit over 400hp. So it definitely is 455hp peak, but it is way over 2 tonnes. But what I like best: drive it at 80% Use the immense torque between 2000 and 3000 rpm and it definitely will feel like a big V8. Hence I did order the T6 that takes around 5.3s to 100 instead of 4.6s for the T8. But that being said: I did really like the power of the BMW i4 40e with 340hp which felt less than 100hp down on the T8.
I'm currently driving a 2021 E Class 300e PHEV. I really love it, and people seem to agree, given how many I see on the roads. Unfortunately the new 2023 model does not really float my boat. The predecessor had such a nice interior - I work in IT and don't enjoy screens all over the dashboard really. This Volvo is the first new car I've seen in years that really looks like an alternative for me. The white/grey nappa leather looks very classy. Only worry would be the software. The Merc system is really great, it's the only car I've seen where voice activation really works.

With the super limited top speed I wonder how sales are in Germany with thier autobahn
