Jensen himself said on the Sky Canadian watchalong, that Canada wasnt his best drive and arguably one of his worst. He took out his team mate, took out Alonso, sped in the pitlane, was reprimanded several times. He said Japan 11 or Belgium 12, races where he utterly, utterly dominated.

Vettel’s 2019 Germany performance is also impressive as he made most of the strategy calls himself while under chaotic weather conditions (if one is to listen to the team radios throughout the race) and if not for Ferrari delaying one of the pit stops by a few laps he would have gone on to challenge and likely win. One masterclass of a race through an otherwise not particularly memorable season.
An excellent list but I'll add one (dis)honourable mention for Senna's worst F1 performance: The 1985 Australian Grand Prix. Yes, it was his debut year for Lotus and he was still pretty raw but during the race he was veering all over the place, bouncing off kerbs and to say his driving was erratic that day would be an understatement.

two performances that i really think are underrated are jacques villeneuve in austria 2000 and jenson button in germany 2004. villeneuve solidly qualified p7 in the midfield BAR but dropped back to P15 in lap 1 having to avoid the big crash in T1. throughout the race he managed to drive his way back into P4. Button qualified back in P13 and made his way into p10 before the first round of pit stops. in that first round of pit stops he then overcut 4 drivers and kimi räikkönen had his wing failure so button was p5 after his first stop in lap 14. over the rest of the race he managed to get past montoya, coulthard and alonso and finished in p2 only behind schumacher in his ferrari f2004
I would mention for Piquet , his best races , along with the one you mentioned. 1986 Monza , battle with Mansell all race, Williams botched up his last pitstop and he was over 10 scs behind Mansell, everyone thought it was the end . He proceeded to lap a second faster than Mansell in next 10 or so laps , caught him and passed him with a lovely jink. Basically a Silverstone 1987 in reverse , without better tyres. Also , 1987 Detroit must be mentioned. He had a flat tyre after start , ended up last on the road. After pitstop, he fought and battled all race , passing everyone on the tight road , except for Senna. After the race , he said he perhaps had a shot at the win, he was surprised how too well he preserved the tyres. As for his worst ones , 1988 Germany , just like 1981 Brazil , he gambled , probably because the Mclarens were so dominant , started on slicks on a very wet track, ended up in the barrier at the chicane .
And his miracoulous win in Sepang 2012 from p9 on the grid dancing on the rain with a shitbox Ferrari nearly 2 seconds slower than the fastest car, or his other miracle similar to Baku 2018 in Austin 2022 after that big fly he comeback with a heavily damaged car to finish 7th.
Peter clearly hates Alonso and loves Schumi probably because FA basically ended his career and almost every Brit hates Alonso. This was my reply to him: _Hungary 2003 might’ve been better + more succinctly summarized: w/“Alonso lapped the entire field up to 6th, including Schumacher.” Besides 2007, he never came close to throwing away a WDC. 2010 and 2012 were titles he had no business even being so close to winning in such a bad car that most often the 3-4th fastest car and had Grosjean not slammed into him into him in Spa where Vettel was starting last, he wins the 2012 WDC. He was also screwed many other times such as the l SC in Valencia, the 2010 Silverstone penalty and so on._ _Also, how is Alonso now just a meme and not a monster anymore? Guy scored 6 podiums in his first 8, went further into the season before missing a Q3 or failing to score points than any other driver, including Max all at the age of 41. Obviously Jenson Button's best win was Canada 2011, but for an honourable mention I'd go for the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix. Pole by 3 tenths, led every lap and won by 14 seconds. As dominant a weekend as we ever saw from him.
That fact Vettel was only driver who didn't spin in Germany 2019 and Turkey in wet conditions is interesting cause at that time he spun quite many times in other races in dry conditions 😂
I'd give another couple of mentions to bad races from Hamilton's career, both follow a similar path and both are from the same year. The 2008 Bahrain and Japanese Grands Prix. For Bahrain, he qualified third, but a horrible start left him 10th by turn one, then while trying to make up for his bad start, lost his front wing after hitting Alonso's Renault. A pit stop for repairs on lap 2 and a recovery drive ensued, but he only managed P13 at the end. Japan, at Fuji, was very similar and in some ways worse. Qualified on pole, made a poor start, but in the heat of the moment, tried to reclaim the lead he lost to Raikkonen (who was mathematically out of title contention, so in retrospect, Hamilton shouldn't have worried about him), but locked up heavily into turn one, causing flat spots on his tyres that went down to the canvas, went off again at turn 3, leaving him just in the top 10 and behind his real title rival, Massa. The two collided on lap 2, leaving Hamilton last, then after being judged to have been to blame for what happened at turn 1 on lap one, he received a drive through penalty. The result left him in a disappointing 12th place and with Massa getting points, the pressure was on going to China

He was outqualified by teammate, he ran wide 4 times during the race, one of them damaging his car considerably, he stopped in the worse moment and that gave him a penalty, not necesarily his fault but it contributed to the poor result, and he worn his tyres off not once, but twice. Even Sato got passed him. In Japan it was true that he had no pace, but he had problems with his tyres since Q3, wich wasn't his fault. Then Vettel crashed into him, damaging his car wich contributed to the poor pace and the crash he later had. I mean, I think his performance was way worse in Canada, most of the things in Japan were out of his control
I think Alonso's best race was actually Suzuka 05. He was just as phenomenal as Kimi on that day. And performance goes underrated cause it's remembered as Kimi's race
As a Senna fan I have to say, this is a little bit of a cheeky video, althought I know that this topic is invinting trouble. One crash from Senna's mistake as one of his 'best'(Dallas 84) when there are at least half a dozen other wet/irregular weather masterclasses (Australia 91, Suzuka 93 just to name a few) and another dozen regular weather great vitories and drives. Examples: South Africa 84 - 1st points in only his second race ever, with a back of the field car, when only the first six scored; 84 GB, 86 Spain, 87 Detroit. If you wanted to put a crash as a 'best': Hockemhein 84. He crashed due to the rear wing failure, that is, it detached from the car out of nowhere. Before that he was climbing the ranks at astonishing pace. The replay is still available here on TH-cam ('Senna gets off to a great start at Germany 84'). In the worst races you put a crash where he was having gearbox trouble (Aus 90), and another when Mansell break checked him (Aus 92). In my opinion, his greatest victory is Spa 85, his 1st there, it's always confused me that it's such a 'forgotten' masterclass, even here in Brazil. Maybe it's personal bias as I watched it live, unlike Portugal 85 that's always remembered as his 1st win. It's superior to Portugal 85, IMO, as it was irregular weather, with the track going wet/dry multiple times. There's maybe still a highlight reel of it here on YT, go watch it before F1 takes it off. About Interlagos 94 and all of 1994: Senna told the press and Williams that their car was unstable with all the tech from 92 and 93 removed. This was right after the first test session, it was no excuse he made during the championship. Even a journalist who's well known here in Brazil as never having liked Senna (Flavio Gomes) revealed an old tape recording, he was the 1st to interview Senna about that, right after the first few test laps. Senna said basically: It's an eletric chair (death trap) I can't do 2 consecutive laps with it behaving the same. Senna raced 94 with a completely unstable bomb. "But Damon never complained of unstability", one might say. Senna was 1.5 seconds faster than Hill at Interlagos in qualifying, .5 at the Pacific GP, .6 at Imola. He distanced from Hill at a demolishing gap per lap in Interlagos, just like Schumacher did to Jos Verstappen through all of that year. A completely different level of speed. It's not only about the 'best' race, I admit that there are maybe even 'worse' races that you could have chosen as well as the better ones. But as a Senna fan, honestly, for this list, I have to say you could have done better. Reeks of 'Imma spread a little bit of misinformation' shenanigans, or maybe bias for the driver era of your preference.
Kimi himself stated the 2002 French GP being his worst race, during that aftermath interview 😂 But the 2005 European GP with the front left suspension failure should also be a honorable mention, as well as the engine blow-up on Mika's McLaren at the 2001 Spanish GP. That would have been number 4 in a row in Catalunya.

For Raikkonen's worst race, there were definitely many worse races than Hungary 2006. Even the incident that he had, it was actually a racing incident, and not entirely his fault. He was ahead of DLR in the race, although DLR was closing down on him. I would've personally gone for Silverstone 2014 tbh. Hungary 2006 was actually a racing incident.
personally Spa 2008 was pretty horrendous from Kimi given his renown record around the track, that and imo he's probably the greatest driver to have never won more than 1 title
@harshith27-zy4ky I would honestly not go for Spa 2008, he was brilliant in the race until the rain hit the track. If rain would've come 2-3 laps after, Raikkonen would've won that race, and possibly would've won all races in Spa post 2002, in the naughties. Even the battle with Hamilton was brilliant to see Even if we take 2008, it's better to go with Valencia that year. He was absolutely awful in that race. Massa was winning the race, while he had a mechanical DNF running a net 6th in the race. Massa was never one of the very best on the grid, so to perform that way is pure awful from a driver of Raikkonen's stature. Also, the conditions were not mixed/wet as well, it was bone dry conditions in that race with no SC/incidents happening.
@@f1analysis900 maybe yea you do have a point since he couldve won there since Hamilton had that 25-sec penalty. its hard to rate a horrible race from Kimi since he's ultra consistent and rapid, im generally not sure what his worst would be (Valencia 2008 would make sense, China 2014, or even Canada 2015)
@harshith27-zy4ky Yeah, the thing about 2014/15 races is that, Raikkonen was probably past his best by that point (Not defending those seasons, as he was awful/bad in those seasons), also Alonso/Vettel are way WAY better benchmarks than Massa, in case of Alonso in particular, he was at his peak/prime during that time. So for me, Valencia 2008 is still, quite possibly his worst race performance, because it happened with Massa as his teammate, also during his peak/prime period (The 2000s). Massa was never really a top line driver for me in the first place, and was above average at best (2008/09 period in particular were good from him). Some of it is amplified because of Kimi's struggles, while some of it was down to him being good as well. But overall, his performance in that race was absolutely awful imo. Some 2014/15 and 17 races can also make the list, but Vettel/Alonso were better drivers overall than Massa was imo.

Melbourne because in a GP that took place not even 5 months after his near-fatal accident in Adelaide, and with the Finn not in a great shape because of his hospitalize, Mika qualified in the top6 and finished the race in top6 (5th place) and Suzuka because in a title showdown race, he delivered under pressure doing an amazing start and getting a comfortably lights to flag victory for securing his 2nd title 2) About J. Button: I don't think Spa 2001 really deserves an honorable bad drive mention. Yes, he crashed and didn't finish the race, but during and after the restart, he was mostly running inside the points, and he was close to give Benetton double points in a terrible season, with a bad car which somehow overformed only during that Spa race and also took a podium by Fisichella 3) About F. Αlonso: In his honorable best drives, his podiums in Bahrain & Zandvoort 2023 really deserved a mention, no matter the machinery he had 4) About S. Vettel: For me, his greatest ever drive was Monza 2008 and not Brazil 2012, which is more of a great honorable mention And 5) About M. Verstappen: His worst ever drive (honorable or not) should not be other than Saudi Arabia 2021. Even with the tension of a great title fight, we can't escape the fact that Max's drive in that race was completely idiocy

Hi!I've been watching your videos for a long time and is always a pleasure,but I have to say that in no way Jochen Rindt's worst race was the 1969 Spanish Grand Prix.He was leading the race comfortably and then the rear wing broke and he crashed into the armco,huge crash which cost him missing the next race in Monaco while recovering from bleeding of his nose.It wasn't his fault at all,Graham Hill his team mate crashed couple of laps before just in the same corner few meters ahead.It was the era of large rear wings and it was Chapman's idea of that.After the crash,Jochen wrote a letter to Colin to quit using those huge wings because it was too dangerous and also he made it public.That is when the tension started between Colin and Jochen.If I have to choose the worst race for Jochen it would have to be from the beginning of his F1 career,maybe 1965.Because he used to crash a lot during his first years, then at the end he matured a lot.And for his best race I would choose Dutch Grand Prix 1970-first win for Lotus 72.He led every lap( apart from the first 2 of Ickx) and won it easily by a long margin.

Another thing to mention about Damon's win at Spa in 1998. His car was actually set up for dry conditions. Despite catching so many slides he couldn't count, he still managed to keep it on the island, drive quickly enough to lap Jarno Trulli a second time and keep his teammate Ralf Schumacher at bay I always say there were five Safety Cars at the Canadian GP in 2011. The reason being when the red flag came out and then the race resumed, the SC hadn't returned to the pits, so the SC period didn't 'stop' if that makes sense. It was merely paused by the red flag
I don’t really understand how Melbourne 1997 could be one of Villeneuve’s best races. Yep, the pole was insane, but he failed his start and got taken out in T1. That was probably the worst possible season start for a major title contender. I can’t regard this as part of his best races, even not as best weekends. I would have put his Monaco 1997 race as one of this worst too: he had a horrible drive which was far less excusable than 1996 when he discovered the race, had the wrong car setup and delivered a terrible race that didn’t last long.
I am a little bit surprised there wasn't at least an honorable mention of the 2016 Spanish GP for Max's potential best race of his career. After the Merc implosion at the start, he had to fend off Räikkönen for the last third of the race to claim his maiden win. Which is no mean feat i would say 😅 Nonetheless, great video!

I’d also add the following: Monaco 2009 - Fought harder than usual at that point as Brawn’s massively limited development budget meant other teams were catching up, but got pole and never looked back. China 2010 - Read the conditions perfectly to keep a charging Hamilton behind him and lead a McLaren 1-2. Germany 2004 - Fought tooth and nail with Alonso for 2nd while getting choked out by his own helmet, and won out against them both.

For Hill, I have to say Japan 1994 was his best race and he says so himself. He did the most Schumacher thing, he watched Michael in the first segment of the race and learned why he was so good in the rain that day and put it to brilliant effect in the second half of the race. He beat Michael that day fair and square, perhaps for the only time in his career. Anyone could have won the 1995 Australian Grand Prix by 2 laps in a Williams. The other cars on the podium were a Footwork and a Ligier. Every other car from a top 4 team bar Mark Blundell’s McLaren retired from the race and the McLaren that year was probably the work McLaren since 1980.
I'm a big hakkinen fan I feel an honorable mention needs to go to Spain 2001....yes he blew up on the last lap...but that point he was over 40 seconds ahead of the Michael, and had lapped Montoya in 3rd...to me this race really demonstrates at the time Mika and Michael were really a cut above the grid at this time......

Peter clearly hates Alonso and loves Schumi probably because FA basically ended his career and almost every Brit hates Alonso. This was my reply to him:
_Hungary 2003 might’ve been better + more succinctly summarized: w/“Alonso lapped the entire field up to 6th, including Schumacher.” Besides 2007, he never came close to throwing away a WDC. 2010 and 2012 were titles he had no business even being so close to winning in such a bad car that most often the 3-4th fastest car and had Grosjean not slammed into him into him in Spa where Vettel was starting last, he wins the 2012 WDC. He was also screwed many other times such as the l SC in Valencia, the 2010 Silverstone penalty and so on._
_Also, how is Alonso now just a meme and not a monster anymore? Guy scored 6 podiums in his first 8, went further into the season before missing a Q3 or failing to score points than any other driver, including Max all at the age of 41. And that only happened after a disastrous update._
_For the record, I like both Schumacher and Alonso._
@@WarrenZevonFan He also forget Sepang 2010 when he did something mind blowing to do all the race without the clutch because it was broken since the start, he had to be shifting the car sort of without it, he started that race in p19 and despite that big handicap he didn’t stole and he still keep the racing pace making his comeback into the points and fighting for the p8 against Jenson Button until the engine couldn’t resist all that stress of the issue and exploded in the penultimate lap.

Obviously Jenson Button's best win was Canada 2011, but for an honourable mention I'd go for the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix. Pole by 3 tenths, led every lap and won by 14 seconds. As dominant a weekend as we ever saw from him.

I'd give another couple of mentions to bad races from Hamilton's career, both follow a similar path and both are from the same year. The 2008 Bahrain and Japanese Grands Prix. For Bahrain, he qualified third, but a horrible start left him 10th by turn one, then while trying to make up for his bad start, lost his front wing after hitting Alonso's Renault. A pit stop for repairs on lap 2 and a recovery drive ensued, but he only managed P13 at the end. Japan, at Fuji, was very similar and in some ways worse. Qualified on pole, made a poor start, but in the heat of the moment, tried to reclaim the lead he lost to Raikkonen (who was mathematically out of title contention, so in retrospect, Hamilton shouldn't have worried about him), but locked up heavily into turn one, causing flat spots on his tyres that went down to the canvas, went off again at turn 3, leaving him just in the top 10 and behind his real title rival, Massa. The two collided on lap 2, leaving Hamilton last, then after being judged to have been to blame for what happened at turn 1 on lap one, he received a drive through penalty. The result left him in a disappointing 12th place and with Massa getting points, the pressure was on going to China

@@bumblebity2902 I've always considered worse his race in Canada than the one in Japan. He was outqualified by teammate, he ran wide 4 times during the race, one of them damaging his car considerably, he stopped in the worse moment and that gave him a penalty, not necesarily his fault but it contributed to the poor result, and he worn his tyres off not once, but twice. Even Sato got passed him.
In Japan it was true that he had no pace, but he had problems with his tyres since Q3, wich wasn't his fault. Then Vettel crashed into him, damaging his car wich contributed to the poor pace and the crash he later had.
I mean, I think his performance was way worse in Canada, most of the things in Japan were out of his control

I think Alonso's best race was actually Suzuka 05. He was just as phenomenal as Kimi on that day. And performance goes underrated cause it's remembered as Kimi's race

As a Senna fan I have to say, this is a little bit of a cheeky video, althought I know that this topic is invinting trouble.
One crash from Senna's mistake as one of his 'best'(Dallas 84) when there are at least half a dozen other wet/irregular weather masterclasses (Australia 91, Suzuka 93 just to name a few) and another dozen regular weather great vitories and drives. Examples: South Africa 84 - 1st points in only his second race ever, with a back of the field car, when only the first six scored; 84 GB, 86 Spain, 87 Detroit.
If you wanted to put a crash as a 'best': Hockemhein 84. He crashed due to the rear wing failure, that is, it detached from the car out of nowhere. Before that he was climbing the ranks at astonishing pace. The replay is still available here on TH-cam ('Senna gets off to a great start at Germany 84').
In the worst races you put a crash where he was having gearbox trouble (Aus 90), and another when Mansell break checked him (Aus 92).
In my opinion, his greatest victory is Spa 85, his 1st there, it's always confused me that it's such a 'forgotten' masterclass, even here in Brazil. Maybe it's personal bias as I watched it live, unlike Portugal 85 that's always remembered as his 1st win. It's superior to Portugal 85, IMO, as it was irregular weather, with the track going wet/dry multiple times. There's maybe still a highlight reel of it here on YT, go watch it before F1 takes it off.
About Interlagos 94 and all of 1994: Senna told the press and Williams that their car was unstable with all the tech from 92 and 93 removed. This was right after the first test session, it was no excuse he made during the championship. Even a journalist who's well known here in Brazil as never having liked Senna (Flavio Gomes) revealed an old tape recording, he was the 1st to interview Senna about that, right after the first few test laps. Senna said basically: It's an eletric chair (death trap) I can't do 2 consecutive laps with it behaving the same. Senna raced 94 with a completely unstable bomb.
"But Damon never complained of unstability", one might say.
Senna was 1.5 seconds faster than Hill at Interlagos in qualifying, .5 at the Pacific GP, .6 at Imola. He distanced from Hill at a demolishing gap per lap in Interlagos, just like Schumacher did to Jos Verstappen through all of that year. A completely different level of speed.
It's not only about the 'best' race, I admit that there are maybe even 'worse' races that you could have chosen as well as the better ones. But as a Senna fan, honestly, for this list, I have to say you could have done better. Reeks of 'Imma spread a little bit of misinformation' shenanigans, or maybe bias for the driver era of your preference.
Kimi himself stated the 2002 French GP being his worst race, during that aftermath interview 😂 But the 2005 European GP with the front left suspension failure should also be a honorable mention, as well as the engine blow-up on Mika's McLaren at the 2001 Spanish GP. That would have been number 4 in a row in Catalunya.

For Raikkonen's worst race, there were definitely many worse races than Hungary 2006. Even the incident that he had, it was actually a racing incident, and not entirely his fault. He was ahead of DLR in the race, although DLR was closing down on him.
I would've personally gone for Silverstone 2014 tbh. Hungary 2006 was actually a racing incident.
personally Spa 2008 was pretty horrendous from Kimi given his renown record around the track, that and imo he's probably the greatest driver to have never won more than 1 title

If rain would've come 2-3 laps after, Raikkonen would've won that race, and possibly would've won all races in Spa post 2002, in the naughties. Even the battle with Hamilton was brilliant to see
Even if we take 2008, it's better to go with Valencia that year. He was absolutely awful in that race. Massa was winning the race, while he had a mechanical DNF running a net 6th in the race. Massa was never one of the very best on the grid, so to perform that way is pure awful from a driver of Raikkonen's stature. Also, the conditions were not mixed/wet as well, it was bone dry conditions in that race with no SC/incidents happening.

its hard to rate a horrible race from Kimi since he's ultra consistent and rapid, im generally not sure what his worst would be (Valencia 2008 would make sense, China 2014, or even Canada 2015)
@harshith27-zy4ky Yeah, the thing about 2014/15 races is that, Raikkonen was probably past his best by that point (Not defending those seasons, as he was awful/bad in those seasons), also Alonso/Vettel are way WAY better benchmarks than Massa, in case of Alonso in particular, he was at his peak/prime during that time.
So for me, Valencia 2008 is still, quite possibly his worst race performance, because it happened with Massa as his teammate, also during his peak/prime period (The 2000s). Massa was never really a top line driver for me in the first place, and was above average at best (2008/09 period in particular were good from him). Some of it is amplified because of Kimi's struggles, while some of it was down to him being good as well. But overall, his performance in that race was absolutely awful imo. Some 2014/15 and 17 races can also make the list, but Vettel/Alonso were better drivers overall than Massa was imo.

In his honorable best drives, a mention was deserved to be in both Melbourne 1996 & Suzuka 1999. Melbourne because in a GP that took place not even 5 months after his near-fatal accident in Adelaide, and with the Finn not in a great shape because of his hospitalize, Mika qualified in the top6 and finished the race in top6 (5th place) and Suzuka because in a title showdown race, he delivered under pressure doing an amazing start and getting a comfortably lights to flag victory for securing his 2nd title
2) About J. Button:
I don't think Spa 2001 really deserves an honorable bad drive mention. Yes, he crashed and didn't finish the race, but during and after the restart, he was mostly running inside the points, and he was close to give Benetton double points in a terrible season, with a bad car which somehow overformed only during that Spa race and also took a podium by Fisichella
3) About F. Αlonso:
In his honorable best drives, his podiums in Bahrain & Zandvoort 2023 really deserved a mention, no matter the machinery he had
4) About S. Vettel:
For me, his greatest ever drive was Monza 2008 and not Brazil 2012, which is more of a great honorable mention
And 5) About M. Verstappen:
His worst ever drive (honorable or not) should not be other than Saudi Arabia 2021. Even with the tension of a great title fight, we can't escape the fact that Max's drive in that race was completely idiocy
I'd put Brazil 2006 as Nico Rosberg's worst race. Not only did he crash out of the race on lap 1, but even before he got to the point where he crashed on lap 1, he had committed the cardinal sin of Motorsport, crashing into his team mate, Mark Webber

Hi!I've been watching your videos for a long time and is always a pleasure,but I have to say that in no way Jochen Rindt's worst race was the 1969 Spanish Grand Prix.He was leading the race comfortably and then the rear wing broke and he crashed into the armco,huge crash which cost him missing the next race in Monaco while recovering from bleeding of his nose.It wasn't his fault at all,Graham Hill his team mate crashed couple of laps before just in the same corner few meters ahead.It was the era of large rear wings and it was Chapman's idea of that.After the crash,Jochen wrote a letter to Colin to quit using those huge wings because it was too dangerous and also he made it public.That is when the tension started between Colin and Jochen.If I have to choose the worst race for Jochen it would have to be from the beginning of his F1 career,maybe 1965.Because he used to crash a lot during his first years, then at the end he matured a lot.And for his best race I would choose Dutch Grand Prix 1970-first win for Lotus 72.He led every lap( apart from the first 2 of Ickx) and won it easily by a long margin.

Another thing to mention about Damon's win at Spa in 1998. His car was actually set up for dry conditions. Despite catching so many slides he couldn't count, he still managed to keep it on the island, drive quickly enough to lap Jarno Trulli a second time and keep his teammate Ralf Schumacher at bay
I always say there were five Safety Cars at the Canadian GP in 2011. The reason being when the red flag came out and then the race resumed, the SC hadn't returned to the pits, so the SC period didn't 'stop' if that makes sense. It was merely paused by the red flag

I don’t really understand how Melbourne 1997 could be one of Villeneuve’s best races. Yep, the pole was insane, but he failed his start and got taken out in T1. That was probably the worst possible season start for a major title contender. I can’t regard this as part of his best races, even not as best weekends.
I would have put his Monaco 1997 race as one of this worst too: he had a horrible drive which was far less excusable than 1996 when he discovered the race, had the wrong car setup and delivered a terrible race that didn’t last long.

After the Merc implosion at the start, he had to fend off Räikkönen for the last third of the race to claim his maiden win. Which is no mean feat i would say 😅

Monaco 2009 - Fought harder than usual at that point as Brawn’s massively limited development budget meant other teams were catching up, but got pole and never looked back.
China 2010 - Read the conditions perfectly to keep a charging Hamilton behind him and lead a McLaren 1-2.
Germany 2004 - Fought tooth and nail with Alonso for 2nd while getting choked out by his own helmet, and won out against them both.

For Hill, I have to say Japan 1994 was his best race and he says so himself. He did the most Schumacher thing, he watched Michael in the first segment of the race and learned why he was so good in the rain that day and put it to brilliant effect in the second half of the race. He beat Michael that day fair and square, perhaps for the only time in his career. Anyone could have won the 1995 Australian Grand Prix by 2 laps in a Williams. The other cars on the podium were a Footwork and a Ligier. Every other car from a top 4 team bar Mark Blundell’s McLaren retired from the race and the McLaren that year was probably the work McLaren since 1980.
Some questionable picks in this but great concept, and must have been a lot of research to cover every champion!
I'm a big hakkinen fan I feel an honorable mention needs to go to Spain 2001....yes he blew up on the last lap...but that point he was over 40 seconds ahead of the Michael, and had lapped Montoya in 3rd...to me this race really demonstrates at the time Mika and Michael were really a cut above the grid at this time......
