Yep. Linguistically istekiri is a dialect of Yoruba.

@Ekumelo, there is more that unit us than divide us. I am from Enugu state and there are similarities between my part of Enugu area (Enugu North) and some Benue dialects. While in Uniport I met Obiaruku Deltans and was amazed at some of the words they used as they sounded like my dialect.

Itshekiri sounds like Ijebu dialect of the Yoruba language. I can understand most of what the man was saying.

They are from the oduduwa. Check the orisun yoruba. Full history of Oduduwa and the people.

Is the young man or Itshekiri culture the reason for poverty in Nigeria? They are likely victims of what you call Nigeria that gives oil wells to other Nigerians to the exclusion of oil producing communities.
